Original Play Synopsis :


Frederick accuses his older brother Duke Senior as a traitor,

banishes him and takes his place at the court. Duke Senior flees
to the forest of Arden with few of his loyal followers leaving his
daughter Rosalind behind with her cousin Celia. Sir Rowland de
Boys family is also having some problems as Sir Rowland has passed
away and his oldest son Oliver refuses to give proper education
and property to his younger brother Orlando. Annoyed with Orlando,
Oliver encourages Charles the new Duke’s wrestler to show no mercy
towards Orlando in their upcoming match. Surprisingly Orlando wins
the wrestling match, witnessing Orlando’s win Rosalind instantly
falls in love with the man. Orlando’s win however incites the
anger of Oliver as well as Frederick and is forced to go into
exile to protect his own life. Frederick on the other hand
banishes Rosalind calling her a traitor like her father on which
Celia refuses to leave her friend Rosalind and device a plan to
flee in disguise together to Forest of Arden. Rosalind as a young
man named Ganymede and Celia as his sister named Aliena. They
decide to take the court’s clown Touchstone together. Finding
their way to the forest of Arden they meet an Old shepherd name
Corin and decide to settle in his cottage. Orlando finds his way
to Duke Senior and spends his time writing love poems about
Rosalind and pins those poems onto the trees of the forest. When
Rosalind realises that Orlando is nearby in the forest, she
decides to stay in disguise as Ganymede and talk to him to assure
that she could cure him from his heartache if he would talk to her
as if she was Rosalind. Rosalind also tries to cure Sylvius of his
love for Phebe but the plan backfires and Phebe falls in love with
Ganymede. Touchstone also falls in love with Audrey and has
several encounter with Melancholy Jaques (one of Duke Seniors
follower). Jaques admires touchstone for his wit and philosophy
and decides for himself that he too like to become a fool.
Oliver enters the forest in search for Orlando, he sleeps near a
tree and is about to get attacked by a lion, fortunately Orlando
enters the scene and saves Oliver life, he is deeply injured by
the attack. Oliver brings the bloody handkerchief to Rosalind and
describes her the event hearing to which Rosalind Faints. Oliver
and Celia fall in love instantly and they promise to marry the
next day. Rosalind makes Phebe promise that if she cannot marry
Ganymede the next day then she has to marry Sylvius and promises
Orlando that tomorrow she will bring Rosalind to marry him. The
ceremony day arrives, Rosalind and Celia finally reveals
themselves, Phebe agrees to marry Sylvius. All the other couples
are united and are married by Hymen. Jacques, Sir Rowland de Boys
second brother arrives at the scene with a news that Frederick has
restored the Dukedom to the old Duke. The couple celebrate happily
and plan to return to the court.
