A SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 10

I. OBJECTIVES :

At the end of the 60-minute lesson, the students shall be able to:

A. complete the mystery pictures through puzzles;

B. discuss the assigned part of the story collaboratively;

C. show appreciation of the story by sharing personal experiences about love,


sacrifice and selflessness

A. Pre-reading Activities

1. Routines (3 minutes)

2. Review (5 minutes)

Title of activity: Popsicle Sticks Recitation

Directions: Students’ names are written in the popsicle sticks. The teacher randomly
picks a stick and the name written on that popsicle stick shall answer a question.

1. What was our topic last meeting?

2. How did Quasimodo show his love for Esmeralda?

3. What was the message of the story?


3. Motivation (5 minutes)

Strategy: Visual Prompting

Puzzles

Directions: Students are grouped into five. Each group is given an envelope that contains
pieces of the puzzle that they need to arrange and complete. The first group to accomplish
the puzzle shall be given three claps.

4.Vocabulary Development: Context clues

Directions: Identify the meaning of the given words using context clues and choose
your answer from the pool of words below.
1. A young man is the heir of a rich family in Tuscany.
2. Monna grieves for his dying son.
3. Federigo is uncertain with his decision to kill his falcon.
4. Federigo’s fortune is very unpredictable.
5. Monna’s anguish is caused by his son’s death.

B. While-reading Activities (20 minutes)

Strategy: Collaborative Group Discussion

Title of the Activity: One Stray, Team Stay

Directions: Each picture completed in the puzzle game corresponds to the elements of a
story (Intro, Rising Action, Climax, Rising Action and Falling Action). In this activity, students
discuss in their groups the events that happened in the picture assigned to them. They are given a
Manila paper in which they can write down some important details or events. After the
brainstorming and discussion, one representative from each group presents that certain part of
the story to the class.
The groups’ performances shall be
Group 1 – Introduction rated with the following criteria:
Group 2 – Rising Action Content – 5pts
Group 3 – Climax Presentation- 5 pts

Group 4 – Falling Action Behavior- 5pts

Group 5 – Ending

Note: The story has already been given for advanced reading. After every group presentation,
the teacher discusses the story thoroughly providing details and events that students might have
missed to mention in their presentation.

C .Post-reading Activities (10 minutes)

Title of the activity: Popcorn Recitation

Directions: Students are randomly picked and the lucky student will answer a question.
Every correct answer entitles the student with 2 amazing claps.

1. Who is the love interest of Federigo?


2. What kind of a person is Federigo?
3. How did Monna show her motherly attitude in the story?
4. What do you think is the reason why Federigo cooked his falcon?
5. If you are Federigo , are you going to cook your falcon for Monna?
6. How did you feel after reading the story?why?
7. If you are given the chance to change the ending of the story, what would it be?
8. What do you think is the lesson of the story?

V. EVALUATION (10minutes)

Title of the activity: Throwback Thursday / Pulot of the Day

Directions : Bringing the essence of the story in real life situations, students share their own
thoughts and experiences about sacrifice. They could choose from the following hashtags as they
share their thoughts to the class.

#ThrowbackThursday – share an experience in the past about how a person changed you,
sacrificed something for you or even about yourself sacrificing for another person

#PulotoftheDay – share your realizations about love, sacrifice and selflessness or any lesson you
personally learned from the story that you can apply in your life
VI. ASSIGNMENT ( 2minutes)

Directions: Compose an appreciation letter to your parents. Write it on a stationery paper, read it
to them, have them sign it and submit it tomorrow.
