Q.3 (B) Appreciation of the poem - A Thing of Beauty is a Joy For Ever. 10
‘A Thing of Beauty is a Joy For Ever’ is a beautiful poem with a
beautiful message written by John Keats. This poem is an excellent example
of true poetry. The poet feels that the presence of beautiful things in our life
is a source of perennial joy for us. The joy they give us keeps increasing. It
always remains in our hearts and will never leaves us. Beautiful things inspire
and motivate us to live through the sorrows, sadness, and loneliness of life.
The poet has used aa, bb, cc, dd, ee ……… rhyming scheme to give more
poetic effect in the poem. The opening line that begins the poem, A thing of
beauty is a joy for ever : Its loveliness increases; is my favourite line as
the line implies that, as we know that our lives are full of tests and trials and
we often find ourselves in the midst of despair, nevertheless, beautiful objects
can help us forget our disappointments, hatred and despair.
3
The poet has used metaphor, alliteration and imagery to increase the beauty
of the poem. Flowery bands, shady boon, daffodils in green world, clear rills,
cooling covert, grandeur of dooms, endless fountain of eternal drink – where
imagery is used. The poem is taken from the poem titled – Endymion – a
poetic romance. The poem gives a positive message like beautiful things gives
us with pleasant dreams, sound sleep, peaceful and healthful breathing. Hence,
beauty cannot lead to inertia, but to a continuous battle to protect our earth and
nature. The beauty has an ability to transform life. I like this poem because the
poem conveys the optimistic message that the beautiful things in our life keeps
us hopeful and optimistic. Though there is lack of noble souls around us, we
still continue to live optimistically for better days ahead.

them. Galaxies were formed when the Big Bang explosion took place 15,000
million years ago. Things in the universe flew out in different directions, forming
lumps of matter or galaxies. The process is still on and the universe continues to
expand. Galaxies can be classified into spiral, barred spiral and elliptical. Spiral
galaxies have spiral arms from the nucleus. The nucleus has a large cluster of
stars. Barred spiral galaxies have arms from the opposite ends of a bar across
the nucleus and contain a large amount of gas, dust and stars. Elliptical galaxies
