 Better Students without the School Test

School is a place where students study and prepare themselves to face the
world. In preparing them, the school doesn’t give only a lesson but also a test. The
test itself is held to measure the student knowledge. Some parents and students
argue that the School Test focuses only on the score without considering internal
and external factors of the students while doing the test. They believe that the
School Test is ineffective for the students.
As we know that not all the students have similar personality in facing
pressure. The test itself can create major stress. Students feel the pressure when it
comes to performing well on the test. Test scores can affect student confidence.
For example, a case which happened on May, 2018, a junior high school student
who commit suicide by jumping from her apartment because she used to fail in
Mandarin test.
School Test also evaluates student performance without considering
external factor such student home life. Some students say that they don’t have time
to study because their parents always argue each other during at home. That
condition then make them unprepared to face the test. But actually the fact they
are extremely bright but just don’t do the test well.
On the other hand, school believes that the test result will allow parents and
teachers to see how a student is doing compared to other students in his or her
class. Teachers will know to give next step in improving the student performance
and the parents will know to give extra lesson for their children at home.
Considering the situation which happens nowadays it is better not to give a
test for the students. Creating a good student is not from a test but from the
process of teaching and learning in the classroom. Without the test, the students
will have more time to explore their interest, knowledge, and skill. The best
performance is not only written on a piece of paper but can be seen from their daily
performance during the lesson in the classroom.
