Affordable Care Act

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is a comprehensive health reform bill that was signed

into a law in 2010, by the US President Barack Obama. This law requires the involvement a huge

number of people for the execution of activities geared towards helping the citizens to have an

easy access to treatment whenever possible. However, the ACA markets are not certain whether

they can continue their services in 2018 and 2019 or not (Corlette et al., 2018).

In a research conducted by Corlette et al. (2018), the major disadvantage of the ACA is

that it requires the majority of people to purchase health insurance which signifies that there is an

additional cost. Although ACA aims to provide citizens an easy access to treatment, it entails a

huge cost which can be problematic especially for the low-income earners.

Since 2017, the Republicans have advocated to abolish the ACA, and replace it with a

new plan to free the people from the heavy burden it entails. They exclaimed that in the past,

ACA provided subsidies to people who cannot afford to get health insurance in the market.

Unfortunately, in the present, ACA focused on earning profit from the people (Butler, 2017).

Butler (2017) stated that with the replacement that the Republicans plan to put into

action, over 20 million people will have to benefit from the services with affordable costs.

Furthermore, Corlette et al. (2018) exclaimed that due to the uncertainty of ACA markets in

2018 and 2019, there is a greater possibility that the ACA will be completely abolished.

The two reports mentioned above concluded that ACA originally aimed to help people,

especially the poor regarding their medical conditions. Due to the additional costs of ACA,

which is burdensome for the people over time, the Republicans seek to abolish the ACA and find

a better replacement for it.
