COMPUTER NETWORK

 Computer network:
 Consists of two or more computers that are
connected together to share information and
resources . The resources may include PrInters,hard
discs, scanners and programs ets.The computers in
the network are connected together through
communication media.The communication media may
be physical cable or wireless connection .The
computers in the network may be in a same room or
building or at different places.
• Computer network :
Computer network communication:

 We transmit information or data by using two

types of signals, namely analog and digital.
Computers communicate with digital signals. The
older forms of communications technology, such
as telephones and radios, use analog signals.
➢ Types of network

 Computer Networks are differentiated

between three types of Computer Networks
such as LAN, MAN, WAN.
 LOCAL AREA NETWORK (LAN):
 Smallest networka. it is the most common
type of network.It covers a small area.It
usulaay connects computer and other devices
within one office or an building or a group of
buildings.Alan tha t use no physical wire called
Wireless LAN.
 LANs are capable of transmitting data at very fast
rate.ee Labg In acomputer lab 40 computers
connected through lan.Students can share
Software,Files and data in the lab
➢ METROPOLITAN AREA NETWORK (MAN):

 MAN stands for Metropolatine Area Aetwork.The

type of network covers an area of a city. MAN is
larger than LAN but smaller thN WAN . It is usually
use to connet to more LANs in a city or town.I t is
within city from building to building and area to
area.
 Example
The network connecting different branches of a
company in a same city.
➢ Personal Area Network (PAN):

 PAN stands for Personal Area Network.It is a network

that connects personal devices using wirelessnand
wired technology.The devices are located within
range of about 30 feet. The devices may include
portable computer , smart phone, digital camera ,
printers etc.
 Example:
 A pan can be used to sync data from handeled device
to a desktop computer,move data wirelessely to a
printer, transmit data from smartphone to a wireless
headset.
WIDE AREA NETWORK (WAN):

 This type of network covers a large area.It

connects computers and other devices in different
cities and countries.WAN usually consists of
seversl LANs connected together.
 Computers in a WAN are often connected through
telephone lines.They can also be connected
through satellites.
 WAN is expensive than LAN
 WAN is not fast as LAN.
EXAMPLE:
The network connecting the ATMs of a bank
located in different cities.
➢ INTERNET:

The Internet is a massive network of networks.

It connects millions of computers together
globally, forming a network in which any
computer can communicate with any other
computer as long as they are both connected to
the Internet.
➢ INTERNET VS NETWORK:
