To Whom It May Concern:

I have had the pleasure of working with Diana Shenkel as she served in the role of Instructional
Assistant at Sage Canyon School in the Del Mar Unified School District. In my capacity as the
Principal, I was witness to Diana’s love for children, enthusiasm for the job, and ability to support a
variety of students’ needs.

In her time at Sage Canyon, Diana built strong relationships with our students and staff. She is
engaging, enthusiastic, and loves working with children. When she is instructing, she sets clear
academic and behavioral expectations. She plans fun, interactive lessons that engage students with
the content. If a student is struggling behaviorally, Diana maintains a calm demeanor and redirects
the behavior effectively. All students loved working with Diana and she quickly became part of any
classroom she was supporting.

Diana showed enthusiasm for her job everyday. She is flexible and as plans or needs would change,
she was happy to assist in many capacities. She is also a quick learner and able to implement new
strategies quickly. Diana familiarized herself with students’ goals and worked closely with the
Education Specialist to fplan for instruction and take data on student progress. In the general
education setting, Diana would support individual or small groups of students to ensure they were
successful with the learning objectives as well as continuing to grow socially and behaviorally. We
were happy for her when she was offered another teaching position, but sad to see her go.

I would highly recommend Diana for a teaching position and wish her much continued success.
