ABOUT SCHOLA CANTORUM: High school students selected for their musical passion, potential and talent join the Schola Cantorum,
where they receive fully-subsidized training in singing, playing an instrument and choral music. Singing in the choir is a core part of the
scholar’s experience. Scholars will stay with the program until they graduate Grade 12. During this time, they will receive an integrated,
structured and sustained music education in an after-school extracurricular mode, thus allowing them to continue studying in their
respective regular high school, while enjoying the experience of simultaneously attending a “high school for the arts” or “choir school”.
This allows them to integrate music with other pursuits in their everyday life, no matter what path they later choose to follow.
SELECTION AND SCHOLARSHIP: At the beginning of every school year, 20 to 25 students (currently at Grade 9 & 10) will be
selected based on their auditions and musical aptitude. [In highly exceptional cases, an applicant at Grade 11 or 12 may also be
considered]. A scholar will receive 100% free tuition for all music training, lessons and classes in the program. Expenses and materials
related to music classes or performances will be shouldered by Schola Cantorum. However, this scholarship does not include
transportation, food, clothing, accommodation and other usual expenses related to going to/returning from Schola Cantorum sessions at
the Madz Music Studio in Eastwood QC.
Successful applicants who pass the Screening Round will be shortlisted and invited to Round-2 [Live Audition] which will consist of: (1)
music aptitude, listening and singing tests, and (2) interview for both applicant and parent/guardian. Round-2 will take place on or by
the week of May 15-20, 2019. Schola Cantorum Day #1 for Semester-1 of SY2019-2020 is on JUNE 15, 2019.

OPPORTUNITY AND PROMISE: We will provide well-rounded growth and performing opportunities for individuals of varying and
diverse backgrounds, musical gifts and aptitudes. We welcome highly musical individuals who also nurture other interests and dreams
outside the realm of music. We will provide meaningful and wholistic music education where creative artistic expression is nurtured, but
we will also hone discipline, demand excellence, deepen social, emotional, mental maturity and develop a humanistic, compassionate
and moral character in each of our scholars.
COMMITMENT AND EXPECTATION: A scholar commits to be in Schola Cantorum until they graduate Grade 12 (maximum of 4 years
in the program) and must maintain good standing in key criteria such as attendance, periodic assessment activities and performances.
Each scholar is expected to attend from 4-5 hours every week (comprised of choir sessions, music classes and individual lessons) for
14-16 weeks every semester. Performance is an integral part of musical development, thus we expect full and responsible participation
from our scholars in all performance and concert activities.
Schedule for School Year 2019-2020: Every Saturday from 2:00 to 6:00pm | The first semester runs from JUNE 2019 to mid-OCTOBER
2019, and the second semester runs from NOVEMBER 2019 to MARCH 2020l. There will be no mandatory summer sessions.
Each scholar is expected to abide by the standards of discipline, excellence and commitment, according to the tradition of the Philippine
Madrigal Singers. The Schola Cantorum Administration exercises the sole right to suspend, whether temporarily or permanently, a
scholar who does not meet these standards.
