AIMS

The Primary School Standard Curriculum (KSSR) for Mathematics aims to develop pupils’ understanding of number concepts and
their basic skills in computation, understand simple mathematical ideas and apply their mathematical knowledge and skills
effectively and responsibly in their daily routines.

OBJECTIVES

The Primary School Standard Curriculum (KSSR) for Mathematics will enable pupils to:

1. understand and apply mathematical concepts and skills in a variety of contexts.

2. widen the use of the basic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division related to Number and Operations,
Measurement and Geometry, Relationship and Statistics.

3. identify and use the relevance of mathematical ideas, ranging from mathematics to other disciplines and to everyday life.

4. communicate using mathematical ideas clearly, using correct symbols and terminology.

5. use mathematical knowledge and skills to apply and make adjustments using various strategies to solve problems.

6. think, reason, and make exploration mathematically in everyday life.

7. using a variety of data representations to communicate mathematical ideas and its relationships.

8. appreciate the importance and the beauty of mathematics; and

9. use effectively a variety of mathematical tools, including TMK to build an understanding of concepts and to apply
mathematical knowledge.
