The Grammatical Error in English Writing of Indonesian EFL

Learners

Introduction
The problems come by student of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in
Indonesia. As EFL learners, they only focus on the meaning of the writing but,
actually they forget about how the structure itself. The learners do not realize when
they commit the error because it occurs unconsciously. The errors committed by the
student can be at the level of grammar, lexical, orthography, pronunciation, and
discourse .And the grammatical error is the one of the error that they made while
making writing. This research paper looks at the structure of grammar and analyzing
a range of error when explaining the grammatical error. This is especially for
Indonesia EFL Learners to competent in written English. With the knowledge of
basic and complex grammar there is great way to write the something with good
grammar without grammatical error inside of the written.

According to the research by Rury Novita with the tittle; An Analysis of


Grammatical Errors in the 1st Year Students’ Writing at English Department in
Andalas University and got the conclude that verb and tense cause the biggest
difficulty for the students when they study grammar. It may be caused by the
existence of various kinds of verb in English, such as auxiliary verb, modal auxiliary,
present participle, past form, past participle and infinitive, which make the student
confused to choose the correct form .For the specific grammatical system, the
students apply certain strategies which have similarity among them. And the research
by Anthony J. Onwuegbuzie with the tittle; An Analysis Errors in Writing
Narrative Texts Done By the Second Semester Students at the Diploma Program
English Department in Airlangga University Surabaya and it can be indicate that the
student got difficulties because Indonesia as their mother tongue or first language
does not also have rules in tenses. On the other hand, the errors regarding sentence
structure is the least dominant type of grammatical error done by student. Therefore,
they are unable to determine what the constructions are because they think that their
utterances are what they intend to do. They are usually not able to make any
corrections of their errors by themselves. Therefore, they need teachers to correct
their grammatical errors.

The research of an analysis of grammatical errors in the 1st year student


writing at English department in Andalas university there’s no strategy to make or to
decrease the wrong or grammatical error whose learners do. The authors just taken
the some kinds of the errors, but she did not take the strategy in the research, for
example the authors write that the errors are mostly caused by intralingual factor as
the point of the sources of error. The learners can learn the needed item, engage their
learning strategies or try to apply by resorting to communication strategies, but I
think is have not correlation between communication and writing ability. The
different between this research and my research is how to face the grammatical error
made while making the writing using the strategy that I made to fix the problem. The
something that we should develop the writing ability is not about the theory but also
the practice, so when learners want to produce or write something with the good
grammar, they have to practice and practice. And to better research the author should
put the exact strategies. And I hope that the research can be more clearly and it
became the reference to other research and what the content is can be applying to
solve the problems.

And the research of an analysis of grammatical errors in writing narrative text


done by the second semester students at the diploma program English department in
Airlangga University Surabaya it seem like the previous research in above, there’s no
strategy to solve the problems. And in this research also there’s no the example of
narrative text include it. The different between this research and my research is when
the authors use narrative text as the problems that learners do. Actually, for my
research it can be found is not about the narrative text but in all the kinds of the text.
.It can more be flexible when the author gives the example of the problem of the text,
and the author gives the strategy to solve the problems. I hope that the research can
gives the progress while making the narrative text, so the readers can develop their
writing skills and avoid the grammatical errors.

This research paper looks at the structure of grammar and analyzing a range of
error when explaining the grammatical error. There is an exploration and find out of
the grammatical error in English writing of Indonesian student as English foreign
language learners. The research also considers learners proficiency in their foreign
language. Some attention is devoted to the Indonesian teacher or lecturer teaching
system and its impact on the ability of students or learners to apply their specific
thinking skills to the problem of translating ideas to written English.
