1 Overview

This chapter introduces main purposes, functions & features, technical parameters and
operating principles of the ZXM10 ALM.

1.1 Introduction
The site monitored by the ZXM10 may raise alarms of different levels corresponding
to different circumstances, e.g., temperature, smoke , and infrared alarms, which should
be notified to the persons on duty in time. Therefore, it is necessary to install an alarm
device at the monitoring center to raise alarms specific to the alarm events on the site.
The ZXM10 ALM is designed to implement this function.

This product is designed to comply with the following standards:

z YD/T 1363-2005 Central Supervision Management System for Power Supply,

Air-Conditioner and Environment of Communication Offices (Stations)

z Q/SZX 014-2005 Centralized Supervision System for ZXM10 Power Equipment

and Environment

1.2 Main Characteristics

1. The ZXM10 ALM applies at the monitoring center, and is connected with the
integrated console. Upon receiving the alarm instruction from the integrated
console, the ZXM10 ALM raises audible & visible alarms at different levels.

The ZXM10 ALM can give out six optional sounds. The alarm volume is
controlled by the volume button to meet the requirements of different
environments. Different audible & visible signals are used to distinguish four
levels of alarms.

2. Two types of communication ports: RS232 and RS422/RS485 are available for
different applications.

3. In the system design, the communication, CPU and alarm indicator power
supplies are independent of each other to avoid interference.

Fig. 1.4-1 Operating Principles

1. Alarm indicator output and sound output

When any of the environmental variables or power equipment parameters under

monitoring goes beyond the alarm value, the integrated console will raise an
alarm instruction of a specific level to the ZXM10 ALM via RS232 and
RS485/RS422 communication interfaces. The CPU receives and responds to the
integrated console to send an alarm instruction, and raise an audible & visual
alarm of a specific level according to the instruction.

2. Reliability assurance

The hardware watchdog circuit WDT monitors the work of the CPU. When the
system power fails or the system program becomes faulty, the watchdog can
reset the system within 1.6 seconds to avoid system disorder or crash.

3. Communication interface

The system provides two kinds of external physical interface standards, i.e.,
3-line mode RS232 and RS422/RS485. These two interfaces can hand over
between each other automatically according to the connected signals. The
ZXM10 ALM receives and executes the instruction issued by the console, but
does not return the execution status or result information.

4. Power supply part

The ZXM10 ALM adopts 48VDC power supply. The 48VDC power supply is
converted into 5V power supply for use of most components.

Appendix B ZXM10 and ZXM10 ALM

This appendix describes the locations of the ZXM10 system and the ZXM10 ALM in
the system.

B.1 Introduction to ZXM10 System

B.1.1 Overview

The ZXM10 centralized monitoring system for power supply system and environment
(ZXM10 for short) is one of the products series developed by ZTE. This system is
based on the state-of-the-art sensing technology, communication technology and
computer technology, and has telemetering, telesignaling and telecontrol functions. The
ZXM10 transmits the remote monitoring data and video to the central monitoring
center through multiple flexible transmission modes, so as to connect the distributed
remote terminals with the monitoring center. The professionals can perform
long-distance monitoring at the monitoring center to implement far end unattended.
The ZXM10 provides the users with multiple monitoring and control approaches. It can
detect various faults and emergencies accurately and quickly, so as to ensure the
equipment safety and help the user improve the management efficiency.

The ZXM10 is applicable to the monitoring in the postal and telecom system, power
system, traffic system, banking system, and various large public facilities, and can meet
the requirements of different users.

B.1.2 Structure and Function

In terms of structure and function, the ZXM10 is composed of front-end data collection,
long-distance transmission and monitoring center.

1. The front-end data collection part comprises a front-end processor, which

provides front-end data collection modules with the same serial communication
interface by connecting a serial communication interface bus. It is composed of:

1) Intelligent protocol converter (ZXM10 PCU) for monitoring the intelligent

devices.

2) Environment monitoring module (ZXM10 EMU) for monitoring the

environment variables.

3) Control and monitoring module (ZXM10 CMU) for monitoring the

non-intelligent devices.

4) Multi-purpose integrated supervision unit (ZXM10 MISU)/compact

multi-purpose integrated supervision unit (ZXM10 SMISU) for monitoring the
intelligent and the non-intelligent devices.

5) Battery monitoring module (ZXM10 BMU) for monitoring the 48V batteries of
the power system.

6) High-voltage battery monitoring module (ZXM10 HVBMU) for monitoring the

UPS batteries.

7) Holder controller (ZXM10 DCB) for monitoring the images.

2. The front-end data collection module collects various real-time monitoring data
from the power equipment room/basestation, and converts them into the data
packets suitable for the monitoring system communication protocol.

3. The front-end processor reads the packets in the front-end data collection
module successively through the serial communication interface bus.

4. The front-end processor judges and handles the packets, and sends them to the
monitoring center through the E1 interface. Meanwhile, the front-end processor
transfers the control commands from the monitoring center to the front-end data
collection module to control the corresponding equipment operations.

B.2 Location of ZXM10 ALM in ZXM10 System

The ZXM10 ALM is an alarm module in the monitoring center, which is connected
with the console via communication interface, and conveniently connected to the
ZXM10 system. Fig. B-1 shows the location of the ZXM10 ALM in the ZXM10 system.
Upon receiving the alarm instruction from the integrated console, the ZXM10 ALM
