1st week

On 4th day of June that was Monday we first have our orientation held by
the head security of PLDT for the safety rules and regulation of the company.
They helped us to familiarized to our designated department and been introduce
to the whole team that will handle us. They taught us how to answer phone calls
properly. They also taught as how to monitor their equipment using MSAN so we
can monitor if the equipment is down or up status, we also learned to use the
NETMAN a network management monitoring where we can monitor the whole
system in different areas. After that we used to monitor the equipment and the
system when the engineers do a troubleshooting in some area and they let as
monitor it to make sure that everything is in the good status. I also make a tracing
for the path of the backbone connection of fiber optic using google map.

2nd week

My 2nd week starts with an orientation of the company Backbone, on how

they react when the problem came, on how they troubleshoot it. On Wednesday
one of the Engineer on our department take us with him on field activity. He
taught us how to trace the Fiber Optic cable when it is unlabeled, and also he
introduced some of device they used, like an Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer
(OTDR). This device used to characterized an Fiber Optic also measure the
distance of FOC.

On the other day we monitor the nodes and also troubleshoot it. Using remote
management system installed on computer we detected that there are some
trouble, one of the slot in nodes is down. The solution is to troubleshoot it on
actual room one of the engineer take us with him and show the process. He
remove the card of nodes and replaced a new one, in a few seconds it works.
After that we brushed and clean the blowers of nodes.

3rd week

My third week starts with a field activity. That was Acceptance of

Projects of Location of Poles of Fiber Optics due to road widening of DPWH, in
Lupao, Bongabon and Rizal that held by one of our Engineer in our department
Engr. JoJo. He taught us the process of that, the closure that is used for fiber
break problems to connects the break cables, the Pull-Off that holds and supports
the cable and also the proper location and requirements of post.

On June 20 – 21 we are assigned to Inventory of Telecomm Equipment and

Spare Module. We identified and list the Card Name, Serial No. and Pert No. of
each module and sort it on Microsoft Excel. Also we cleaned and brushed the
Router’s Filter. We have to maintain the cleanliness of our Equipment.

On June 22 one of our Engineer in our department, Engr. Elmer taught us to

used i-TEST. The i-TEST is useful because it can test or detects the cards with high
voltage that can cause burned components in the circuit. We took the list of
burned components in the circuit and sort it on Microsoft Excel, and that was my
productive 3rd week.

4th week

My 4th week starts with an activity on field. Engr. Rey took me with him
to cleaned and brushed the filter and fan of nodes like MNXUTAG001,
MNXUTAG002, MNXUTAG003 and some rectifiers. On that day we went to
MNXUTAG008 cabinet in Muñoz and replaced the old battery with new one, and
also changed the rectifier. After that our next target is the cabinet on Bakal II
Talavera, we did the same way like we’ve done in Muñoz.

On the other day Engr. Ian Tamayo taught us how to back-up the
configuration on each router (Conducted routine backup of Router Configuration
files). He used the FTP protocol and got the files that we need to be backup. On
that day we also used again the i-TEST to detect the high voltage components on
the cards inside the nodes. We listed the cards with high voltage, because high
voltage can cause burned-out of cards.

5th week

My 5th week starts with a field activity, the Fiber Break. We went to
Caalibangbangan, Cabanatuan City to restore the fiber due to car accident. The
car hit the post and it cause trouble. Our engineer responsed to that fiber break
quickly. Using Closure we connect the broken fiber and we helped our engineer
on splicing.

On the other day we destined to Inventory of Telecomm Equipment and

Spare Module. We list the card name, serial number, and part number of
SLDUTAG008, CABHUAG003, ZGZHUAG001, CABHUAG002, TVRHUAG003 Nodes
and sort it on MS excel.

Next day one of our engineer Engr. Jeofry Sodong took us with him in Zaragoza
@ Smart BTS. We have to Link-Up the OLT to bring back the service. We change
the port of the patch cord and find some port that working properly. After that
we checked the personnel that splicing on Calipahan Talavera Nueva Ecija and
they taught us how to use Fusion Machine and Cleaver properly. The Fusion
Machine is used to connect the fibers, then the cleaver is used to cut the fiber.
When you used other cutters to cut fiber, the Fusion machine won’t accept it,
only Cleaver must be used.

6th week

In this week I did was tagging some fiber that has no tag for easy to
find the FOC. After that we measured the distance of Cabanatuan FITL using OTDR
(Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer).

On the next day we are assigned on office to monitor the nodes using
MSAN and NETMAN. Next activity was field activity. We went to Aliaga Smart BTS
and troubleshoot the FTTH.

After that we went to Cuyapo to check and communicate with the Engineer of
DPWH to ensure that our fiber optics that placed underground are safe due to
road widening of DPWH.

7th week

On my 7th week my first activity was tagging some patch cord that has no
tag or label. I did it using the tagging tools or tagging machine, and after that we
measure distance of FITL loop1 using the OTDR. Next day one of our engineer
taught us how to patch the patch cord from nodes to other nodes and organized
it.
On the other day, my next activity was testing and list some vacant ports in
the nodes, to determine the number of ports that was Good, High Attenuation, or
Fiber Cut.

Our next activity was on field, one of our engineer Engr. Joselito Policarpio
took us with him to Survey the ongoing projects of bridges on Nueva Ecija. We
went every bridges to check and inspect that our Fiber was safe and communicate
with the engineer of DPWH to protect our fiber.

Summary Report

When I leaved the company I have learned a lot on field of Communication

and a little bit knowledge about the equipment they used. They taught as how to
monitor their equipment using MSAN so we can monitor if the equipment is down
