Dear Applicant,
Thank you for your interest in Mortar Board’s Junior Recognition Scholarship! Mortar
Board is a National Senior Honor Society that works to promote and serve the ideals of
scholarship, leadership, and service to the university and community. Each spring, we extend
membership to a small percentage of the most outstanding members of the junior class. This
year, we are creating the Torch & Tassel Junior Recognition Scholarship, which will honor
outstanding upperclassmen who have completed four semesters of college and demonstrate
excellence in Mortar Board’s ideals.
Ten finalists will be recognized for excellence in their freshman and sophomore years of
college based on scholarship, leadership, and service. All finalists will be invited to a
recognition dinner in their honor, where the most outstanding finalist will be awarded a
scholarship of $250. Before you apply, please make sure you meet all the qualifications listed
below. Special consideration will be given to those with service involvement and demonstrated
leadership. You may include a resume with your application, but it is not required. Please fill
out the attached application and don’t forget to return it to the TCC 330 by 5pm on Friday,
November 5, 2010.
Finalists will be notified in class during the last week of November, so be sure to attend
all lectures, labs, and discussion sections that week. Please include your class schedule,
including professor names and classroom locations, so that we know where to find you.
