From auction of 29 Coal blocks & allotments of 38 coal blocks to
states/PSUs over the lifetime of the mines

REJUVENATED ECONOMY
Prevented NPAs, reduced import bill, generated momentum for
‘Make in India’ and raised resources for renewables & Ganga cleaning
through coal cess.

BEYOND
ZERO EFFECT

FUEL > GENERATION > TRANSMISSION & DISTRIBUTION > CONSUMPTION

ON ENVIRONMENT
Massive thrust on renewables to increase share of clean energy

More than 1 lakh solar pumps sanctioned in the past year

Solar pumps helped lakhs of farmers increase output, income and

also provide drinking water.

Drinking water problem will be solved for more than 7.6 lakh
families through solar pumps for drinking water

UNNAT CHULHA ABHIYAN provides improved cook stoves for clean cooking, thus saving
the lives of our mothers and sisters. 3.5 lakh cook stoves were sanctioned last year.

Compulsory crushing and washing of coal to reduce ash transport by linking plants to
their closest mines

33
o Massive thrust for ‘MAKE IN INDIA’ program: Orders of more than ` 100,000 crores
being placed from NTPC, Coal India, Energy Efficiency Services Ltd., Powergrid
Corporation etc. to kickstart the economy

o Domestic industry being encouraged to scale up and become more cost effective
o 1000 MW of solar capacity to be setup by PSUs with solar cells made in India
o Defence establishments will buy 300 MW solar plants
o Similar initiatives across sectors

34
BEYOND
FUEL > GENERATION > TRANSMISSION & DISTRIBUTION > CONSUMPTION
Swachh Bharat
The PSUs under the three Ministries are committed to active involvement in this effort.
As a first step, they are investing over

` 2,250 Cr. for

over 1,25,000 toilets
separately for boys and girls by 15th August, 2015 particularly in the needy states such as
Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan.

After construction, the PSUs will also maintain these toilets for a period of five years thus
ensuring a complete sanitation programme.

Awareness is being created in local communities to improve over all sanitation.

35
TRANSPARENCY & EFFICIENCY
in USING TECHNOLOGY

DIGITAL
National Optical fiber network to connect all high voltage substations thus
Transmission Asset reducing outages
Management Centre
Reduction in coal theft using RFID/GPS tagging
(NTAMC) to remotely
monitor national Coal project monitoring portal for quick decision making, faster
power grid and help dispute resolution and accelerated removal of bottlenecks
increase power
Smart Grid & Smart Metering to improve power availability
availability
e-Office implemented in Ministries

36
BEYOND
TRANSPARENCY

FUEL > GENERATION > TRANSMISSION & DISTRIBUTION > CONSUMPTION

Fully transparent and online process
for coal auctions adopted

Support for restarting stranded

gas-based power plants on the
basis of reverse e-bidding process
to discover lowest customer tariff

Reduced red-tape and paper-work

through delegation of powers and
expansion of online interface

Emergency

FUEL > GENERATION > TRANSMISSION & DISTRIBUTION > CONSUMPTION

Response
 Delhi: After transmission tower  J&K Floods: Special teams rushed
collapse in May 2014, central to the state to restore power on war
government worked day and night footing
to restore power in 15 days which
would have otherwise taken Nepal: Helped Nepal's electricity grid

more than six months come online after the earthquake and is
 Cyclone Hudhud: Central teams now working towards rebuilding the
assigned to restore power in distribution network
cyclone hit areas. Damaged
streetlights converted to LED within
six weeks to restore as well as
improve lighting

39
India has now graduated from
megawatts to gigawatts in terms
of renewable energy production.
