Population Sizes of Wildlife from Hunting Records.” PLoS ONE, vol. 13, no. 6,

I am using the article “A Simple Method for Calculating Minimum Estimates of

Previous Population Sizes of Wildlife from Hunting Records” to show how population is

calculated by a mathematical process by using hunting records from past years. This

article is going to help me explain how annual bag limits are determined based on

population. This author shows credibility by citing all of the scientists that help to develop

this process. It is also relevant having been written less than a year ago.

I am using this article to illustrate the ease of access and availability of the

information about total number of animals killed in a given season. I can use this

information to find a relationship between certain animal numbers harvested in a given

year to see if some are high and others are low in the same years to correlate a

relationship between predator and prey. This is relevant information because it is less

than a year old and was posted in a reputable way of general information from the

Division of Wildlife. These charts usually have the names and numbers of all of the tag

check in points so you can cross reference your information

This article is being used to illustrate what it takes to grow big deer and maintain

a habitat. I can use this information to find out what deer eat and how much they eat.

This information will be helpful in determining the type of impact to the ecosystem deer

have and how it will affect other animals that feed on the same things the deer do. The

author David Hart shows credibility by citing and interviewing several well know QDM

Farm owners, there names are given for cross reference. This is strictly information and

not trying to sell anything. This is also published in a well known deer magazine.

Laney, Dawn. Hunting. Detroit: Greenhaven Press, 2008. Print.

This book is used to illustrate the cause and effect of certain animals on a given

ecosystem. It tells about deer that were introduced to an area and ate so much of the
natural food that another species of animal could not survive. I can use this to relate the

predator/prey relationship and correlate that to the total number of tags allowed to

control the population as to not affect the other species. I believe this source is credible

because it cites the different areas that the author gets the information and all of these

can be checked for originality and accuracy.

This article shows the relationship with deer in an area being a bother to the

surrounding community and a danger because of overpopulation. This article gives

specific examples of real events. This source is credible because the events that are

described in the article can all be verified with little to no research.

Ohio Department of Natural Resources site. ODNR Division of Wildlife,

www.wildlife.ohiodnr.gov. Accessed 3 March 2019.

This site is used to determine the amount of tags that are issued for each animal.

I can use this information to see the rise and fall of the amount of annual tags issued for

each animal. This website is credible because it is updated every hunting season or

any time information changes so it is very relevant. It is also a government run site with

names and numbers for anyone who contributes to the site. It also lists the game

wardens and the government officials who are in charge of this department of

government.

This article can be used to show how a predator that was once eradicated can

become healthy again by protection from legal hunting. This article touches on the

rehabilitation of a species that is being brought back from endangered and how it can

affect an areas animal population. This article is credible because it is relevant, being

less than a year old. It was published in a reputable news source. These events all

took place in official offices and were documented throughout the hearing process.

These documents can all be verified.
