NOTES:

For the 1st speaker until the 3rd speaker, the debaters will have 5’20” for speaking, if
the speaker speaks more than the time given the score of the speaker will be penalized by the
adjudicator.

For the reply speaker, the debaters will have 3’20” for speaking, if the speaker speaks
more than the time given, the score of the speaker will be penalized by the adjudicator.
SPEAKER DUTY
First Define the topic – set out affirmative’s interpretation of

contention – rebut major arguments
Defend own case against rebuttal by previous speaker(s)

issues upon which the teams disagree – rebut the
important aspects of the opposing team’s case – defend
own team’s case against attack – summarise own case.

POINTS OF INFORMATION (POI)

 POI/interruptions are allowed during the 1st until the 3rd speaker speaking. POI is not
allowed while the reply speaker is speaking.
 Maximum time in delivering one POI is 15 seconds.
 POI is allowed after one minute speaker speaking (1st knock once) until the four
minutes speaking (2nd knock once).
 POI can be accepted or rejected by the speakers.

3. RULES AND MECHANISMS FOR THE DEBATE

 The motion in each round will be announced at debate room.


 Teams from the same major and batch couldn’t meet in the knock out.
 Any kind of communication tools should be turned off or in silent mode.
 Debaters are not allowed to use their cell phones during the debate.
 Substitutions are not allowed in all rounds.
 The debaters should not give religion and race perspective
 All debaters are not allowed to come late. Team who come late more than 10 minutes
will be disqualified.
