STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

“S-U-I-C-I-D-E”, shouted one of my friends to wake me up from my deep sleep in early hours of
3rd February, 2009. Petrified, I could not understand what was happening. After a few seconds,
I realized that it was my closest friend, Ravindra, who hanged himself to the ceiling fan. This
incident shook my mind and thinking and little did I realize that it was going to impact my future
so much so that I am writing about it now.
Probing deeply for the reasons for hanging, it was shocking to know that his family was always
comparing him with his relatives who had earned a lot of money. He was always looked down
upon by the relatives and so, he felt alone. To me, it was a big shock because Ravindra never
talked about this even though we lived in a hostel together. Had I known this, I would have talked
to him and helped him in some way that could save his life. I learnt that there are so many
incidents happening in the country and across the world in similar fashion. I miss my friend and
I feel that I miss a life. ‘What sort of life is that if we cannot support our fellow human beings?’ I
pondered. Then I resolved myself to help people like Ravindra to support them to overcome the
issues. However, I did not know that I can take it up as a full time career. Following my
intermediate, I joined in Avanthi Degree College to study my Bachelors with Electronics as major.
Though I was attending classes and writing exams, I was only doing it mechanically. My thinking
has always been to help the people who are facing risky situations. In the final year of Bachelors,
I have realized that I have a strong inclination for community service, and therefore, I
discontinued my Bachelors to learn more about how I can do service to the humanity in a more
organized way for which I chose to pursue Certificate and Diploma Programmes in
Community service in Astute Training Centre in Australia.
Family Background and Education:
I am Kyatham Srujan, a permanent resident of India holding Passport Number: R0118114 living
with my parents and siblings. My father Mr. Kyatham Buchaiah and mother Mrs. Kyatham
Sharadha owns farming lands and makes INR 3, 10, 890 and 3, 11,790 respectively. My elder
brother Mr. Kyatham Madhu works as a Sales Analyst and younger brother Mr. Kyatham Vinay
is pursuing his B.Sc. from Shathavahana University, Karimnagar.
I completed my schooling from Siddhartha High School, Korutla affiliated to Board of Secondary
Education in 2009 and scored 68.8% and senior secondary was from Sri Vidyarthi Junior College
affiliated to Board of Intermediate Education in 2014 with 51.4%. I enrolled for senior secondary
studies in 2009 but could not complete on time as I met with a major accident and could
fortunately survive the hazard with a broken right leg (femur fracture) and with serious injuries
on my body. In-fact I got operated twice due the broken leg did not attach properly so the doctors
have done second operation to cure and attach properly with bone Grafting is a surgical
procedure. Since my mental and physical state wasn’t stable enough, I was permitted to write my
academic exams after recovering from the accident. Hence, I completed my senior secondary
studies in 2014.
Why did I discontinue my Bachelors?
After completing my Intermediate, I was enrolled in B.Sc. (Electronics) at Avanti Degree College
& PG College affiliated to Osmania University, Hyderabad. By this time, as was mentioned before,
I have been inclined to commit myself to altruistic endeavours. I wanted to help people who are
psychologically and socially disturbed and traumatized. Just the thought of helping gave me
great solace. But my parents, who were worried about my career and wanted me equip myself
with some qualification that would help me to survive financially, forcibly joined me in B.Sc.
(Electronics). Consequently, I could not concentrate on studies and failed repeatedly and had to
discontinue my graduation studies after taking a conscious decision to work for the society full
time. I now want to earn a degree which I am interested in and my parents also have supported
me to pursue abroad education and since things are positive in my life now, I want to take this
final opportunity to resume back to studies and considered abroad as the foreign degrees hold
much reputation back in my home country. Moreover overseas qualification on my profile opens
up to a wide range of career opportunities in reputed companies in India and thereby helping me
build a prospective career in my home country.
I believe my open-mindedness, concern for others, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn are the
qualities and this has created a desire to explore the complex issues associated with cultural
diversity, both nationally and internationally through the Intercultural Relations concentration.
Because of our strong history of India that lends service to the local and international community
I believe a Diploma in Community Services from Australia that will prepare me for future
challenges in this field, and help me spread a little hope and support so that I can make a genuine
difference in people’s lives. I want to learn to develop and deliver programs and services that
meet various needs of individuals and families and also become trained to take a holistic
approach to provide social, behavioural, psychological and practical support for clients.
Through this course, I want to positively impact communities by helping to make them more
livable, equitable, and sustainable. To realize this goal I must first further my knowledge so that
I can influence change in favor of underrepresented communities and eventually help empower
others to become agents of change within their own communities. Pursuing a Program in
Community Services will help me to attain my professional goals by providing me with a strong
theoretical framework coupled with the necessary managerial skills to make me an effective
planner.
I want to pursue my career in community welfare industry and after careful perusal and elder’s
guidance I want to pursue my education abroad, I started research about the countries and
universities, and institutions with my seniors, friends and family members across the world.
Finally, I came to know that Australia is the best place to pursue community services.
Why did I not choose other countries?
I started my research to pursue my course from English-Speaking Country i.e. United States,
United Kingdom, Canada and Australia as these are preferred countries for students planning to
pursue higher education. So I have researched about all these countries and understood the fact
that Australia, best suits my requirement. Looking into the other countries, in US many
institutions are losing the accreditations and many Indian students are getting deported even
after enrolling and deported back to their home country and the annual tuition fee and living for
program study is ranging between 50000 to 52000 USD which is too much expensive, so I have
dropped plans for USA.
Even in UK, the cost of living and the tuition fee are expensive ranging between 27,000 to 29,000
GBP and the accommodation cost is on the very expensive side.
In Canada though the fee and cost of living are affordable to me but the climatic conditions are
outrageous as I am from Asian climatic zone.
While coming to Australia, its living cost and the course fee are affordable to me with
approximate annual tuition fee of INR 13, 00,000, and living cost around 12, 00,000 only. The
climatic conditions are similar to Asian climate which is suitable for me. Also Australian degree
is highly recognized by employers and leading educational institutions across the globe. Finally,
I have decided to pursue my further studies from Australia.
Why did I prefer Australia?
I found Australia to be the best option and also, to be the most popular destinations for
International Education. Having done enough research about Australia, Universities offers
globally recognized courses, high-quality education, advanced infrastructure and internship
facilities with practical teaching, world-class state-of-the-art laboratories and classrooms,
outstanding libraries and modern technology. An Australian degree is highly portable around the
world and is recognized by employers and leading educational institutions in many countries
across the globe, it is also a fantastic place to live which provides a welcoming and multicultural
society with a population that originates from around 200 countries when compared to other
top countries. Australia is among the best in the world, with the best infrastructure. Australia's
strong economy and low unemployment rates guarantee a peaceful and healthy stay for
students. Australian Institutions are widely recognized for excellence in many disciplines. Apart
from being a great place to get a first-rate education, Australia is also a fantastic place to study
and acquire a higher degree. Australian people have a reputation for being amongst the
friendliest in the world, with no kinds of racism or differentiation unlike most cases seen today
and Australian cities are safe and clean, with low crime rates and studying in an English-speaking
country, I am assured that I will even enrich my communication skills and develop more formal
English which will be useful in my career.
Why did I choose Astute Training Pty Ltd:
I have chosen Astute for the following reasons.
 It has course modules that suits to my ambition such as identifying and responding to
“children and young people at risk.”
 It has a wide range of elective courses to choose from and this helps building my CV.
 It has organized syllabus to meet the needs of the clients.
 It complies with regulations stipulated by various government bodies and so, the
qualification has a global recognition.
 With over 10 years of successful track record, the institution has seasoned professionals
in the field of community service.
Why did I aim at Community Services?
In this fast paced world that aims at economic success is ‘the’ success, I believe, the present youth
is not living life to their hearts’ content. Real happiness lies in bringing smiles. I have realized
this when I lost my friend during my intermediate. To my astonishment, a huge number of people
are at risk in India. In particular, the number of farmer suicides has gone to sky high in the state
of Telangana. Many of these farmers felt dejected because of the social commitments. I strongly
believe that when they are counselled properly as to how they can cover their losses and manage
their limited resources to earn their livelihood and progress financially.
A second incident that turned my attention to community service was the accident I met with in
my Intermediate. After this accident, I felt like I lost everything in my life. I did not see a purpose
for living. I thought I would never get married and lead a normal life. But with a lot of support
from my mother and siblings, I regained my health. Their selfless service helped me realize how
dependent we are on our family members, and how helpless people without a family are when
they face such situations. My concern for the helpless, the downtrodden, and the people at risk
has grown beyond bounds. My resolution to serve these has become rock solid and that seemed
to me my DESTINY.
Why did I not choose India for my studies?
After I recovered, I joined Red Cross society, which is dedicated for doing various charitable
activities. The chief mentor in the Gaddiannaram Branch in Hyderabad has told me various deeds
of altruistic activities that have had a strong impact on my mind. Further, it is this place where I
learnt that I can make community service a full time career. I was told that doing service to
humanity should also be done in an organized way for which there are some courses abroad.
When I looked for courses related to community service, I found only a few universities that have
just one or two courses. In a couple of universities, I met the people doing related courses only
to realize that they are just doing the courses so that they can get the free hostel facility and the
classes are also not conducted with rigor. Further, there is no practical orientation to the subject
taught at the university. Similar feedback in other universities also disappointed me and made
me look for options abroad.
Private institutions in India focus more on engineering and medicine streams. Premier
institutions give less emphasis on social services. Though a few prestigious institutions such as
Tata Institute of Social Sciences endeavor in this direction, they offer only limited seats that are
highly competitive.
In addition, there are some distance education courses in Ambedkar Open University, which is
also renowned. However, they conduct only a few contact classes, which are barely sufficient to
get hands-on experience in the services. Besides, a degree from open university is not recognized
for many purposes even in India.
Why would I return to India?
When I finish the diploma programme in community service, I will certainly come back to India
for the following reasons.
 My ambition is to start up a charitable institution back in Hyderabad, India, and do service
to especially the Youth who are at risk. Since very few organizations are there to take care
of the youth in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, I would see great prospects
for me in India as I can pursue my fashion while making a career out of it. This is because
India has taken ‘Make in India’ initiative under which a lot of subsidies and incentives
make a service organization more viable and encouraging.
 Alternatively, this course makes me fulfil my aim to make an attempt and work in co-
operation with Indian government agencies. I can also be employed in a range of
community service and welfare organisations in India like NGO Indian Community
Welfare Organisation, The Earth Saviours’ Foundation, Life Care Regeneration
Association, National Association for the Blind, (Centre for Blind Women), SOS Children
Village, India, Save Life Foundation, CGNet Swara, SAMA, Centre for Health and Social
Justice, Digital Empowerment Foundation etc. Thus, there are a number of opportunities
exist in India. Once I am back in India I will apply for relevant jobs and as a fresher I can
anticipate a package of INR 5 to 6 lakhs annually. Having gained hands on experience, I
will be offered with an annual package of INR 8 to 10 lakhs.
 As they say, charity starts at home, I have an obligation to my family. Ever since I met
with the accident, I realized how much my parents need me when they become old as I
needed them when I was bedridden with a bone fracture. Thus, I will surely come back to
India to take care of my parents and ‘live’ with them.
 And another reason to return to my country is that the most secure ancestral assets and
properties worth of INR 3.5 crores, which I and my siblings would inherit equally in the
near future.
This decision of my abroad study will fetch me good designations and a lucrative future here
in my home country and hence investment on my higher studies of Australia will bring back
good number of career opportunities in India, post completion of my course. With such
enormous opportunities and the financial back up in my home country my future definitely
sounds intriguing as this industry is growing at a rapid pace and there would be good
opportunities back in my home country by the time I complete my studies. Hence I can
recover the investment of my Australian studies in no time and in vain this will fetch me a
secured and lucrative future here in my home country and it would be an honorable
opportunity if my profile is considered and secured a chance to study from such an
Exceptional country.
