Involve:
a. Cutting, Marking, Joinr Preparation, Tack Weld, pre-
heating, welding,cleaning, testing, and reporting.
B. Welding procedure spesification were explored during
this study: welding parameter, mechanical testing result
and non destructive testing result following the AWS D1.1
code and standard
Equipment Experimental Methods
1. Oxy-acetylene cutting (OAC) 1. Welding Procedure
2. Grinder and Polisher 2. Visual Examination
3. Submerged arc welding machine 3. Macro-Etch Examination
4. Vickers hardness testing machine 4. Vickers Hardness Test
5. Tensile testing machine 5. Tensile Test
Result & Discussion
1. Weld Geometry
a. The amount of deposited metal is directly related to heat input.
b. The height of inforcement increases with increasing deposition area.
c. Reinforcement and bead width decrease when travel speed increased.
2. Hardness Properties
a. The hardness of the WM, HAZ, and PM decrease when heat input increase
b. Heat input decrease and travel speed increase during welding, decomposition rate will
decrease
3. Tensile Properties
a. Sila tambah
Recommendation
1. Investigate the effect of SAW parameters on the strength and ductility of the weld metals, the
tensile specimens should be made along the welding direction
2. To obtain more reliable result, the parameter deviation between each weld sample should be in
extreme value and the number of test specimen taken from each specimen should be more than
one.
3. Hardness measurement should be taken on three lines: 3 mm from surface, center of metal
thickness, and 3 mm from root surface.
4. To obtain more obvious result, tensile value should be in three or four decimal places.
My Recommendation
1. Type of steel to be use/buy
2. How to manipulate SAW parameters
3. Effect on the course/workshop/lab syllabus
