RESEARCH INVOLVEMENT, PROJECTS & INTERNSHIPS

1. Demand forecasting using Recurrent Neural Networks August-Nov. 2017
Prof. Ramesh Anbanandam, Dept. of Management Studies, IIT Roorkee
The aim of this project was to forecast the demand for perishable items (fruits and vegetables) for a
startup based in Bangalore that aimed to expand its e-commerce branch to food items. I implemented a
Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) RNN for the demand forecasting due to its excellent ability to capture
sequences. The regression was performed using a 3 layer neural network to identify complex
relationships; the LSTM has 2 neuronal inputs – lag and error. The Cross-validation was performed over
7 lags (which incorporates a week). I wrote the code from scratch using Python Deep Learning Libraries,
particularly Keras.
2. P Predictive Modelling of Spectacles Supply Chain December 2017 – present
Prof. S Venkatramaniah, Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow
I am working on this project in association with a chain of hospitals in South India and IIML to provide
low cost eye solutions to the poor. I am performing extensive Data analysis of about 1000 camps set up
by the hospital over 2 years to find trends in the requirements of eye lenses during these camps. I am
developing an unsupervised model using Python for predicting inventory of eye lenses for on the spot
delivery of spectacles. This project includes heavy data pre-processing and cleaning, extensive data
analysis, followed by training multiple models (SVM, KNN, Clustering).I am using Python for Data
Analysis as well as training the model.
3. Design of Sustainable Intermodal Freight Transportation Model
Prof. Ramesh Anbanandam, Department of Management Studies, IIT Roorkee July 2017 - present
The proposed outcome of this project is the design of a multimodal freight transportation network to offer
the decision makers an informed choice of compromised solution across 3 dimensions – transportation,
social and environmental cost. I have modelled the economic, social & environmental constraints as a
multi-objective cost function. Currently, I am developing the MATLAB code for the mixed integer linear
programming problem from scratch. The final outcome is the generation of a 3-dimensional
pareto-solution, where each solution represents a transportation scheme with optimised cost, time and
CO2 emissions.

4. Modeling , Design and Finite Element Analysis of Connecting Rod Used in Vehicles January-April,
2016
Prof. Siladitya Pal and Prof. Avinash Parashar, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Dept., IIT Roorkee
The project involved thorough literature review of connecting rods made of C60 steel alloy and
Aluminium-7075. I modelled and designed the rod on SOLIDWORKS and performed the finite element
analysis on ANSYS Workbench 15.0, using von Mises criterion of failure. The I-groove was tapered for
weight reduction and sharp corners were filleted with an optimum factor of safety between 3 and 4. The
results established that Al rods have high weight reduction capacity but half the ultimate strength than that
of C-60 alloy steel rods, and must only be used when weight reduction is the primary requirement.

INDUSTRIAL EXPERIENCE
1. Jindal Stainless Limited | Reduction of Turnaround Time for Outbound Logistics May-July, 2017
I analysed the TAT process for 66,000 tons per month outbound logistics, approximately 7500 trucks on
the basis of place of delivery, truck capacity, materials and freight service provider for two plants – Hot
Rolling and Cold Rolling Divisions. By making changes to the as-is process, I coordinated with the PPC,
security, logistics and IT department for implementation of the proposed solutions.
• Decreased the Turnaround Time (TAT) of outbound trucks by 3 hours, approx.. 10% by simplifying the
process
• Bifurcated & benchmarked TAT into value-added (15%) & non-value added (85%) time; proposed TAT
↓ by 30%
• Successfully conducted trial run of opening checkout in night shift which decreased TAT by 30
mins/truck
2. ITC Limited | Operational Excellence Internee November-December, 2016
The Packaging and Printing division of ITC Limited was experiencing economic loss due to unsustainable
maintenance of the shop floor. By analyzing the output data for the last 6 months for 5 machines whose
output was fed to 4 other machines, I designed the shop floor plan and implemented it which reduced
wastes and worker movements.
• Decreased downtime of hot foil stamping machine by 8 min/hr, increased output by 400 sheets/hr,
approx.. 15%
• Performed break-even analysis of ₹2.4M add-on to decrease job changeover time from 2 hrs to 10 mins
• Designed & implemented sustainable shop floor plan, reduced waste & left out pallets & decreased
worker
movements
