EUCHARISTIC CELEBRATION AND RITE OF SOLEMN PROFESSION 1

Commentator:
Dear friends in Christ, we are gathered here this morning as one family of God to partake in
the Holy Eucharist and as we witness the Solemn Profession of Religious Vows of our
beloved brothers, Brother Arjay Cecilio, and Brother Emiliano Gutierrez, Jr. of the Clerics
Regular Minor.

Solemn Profession is the highest and most complete expression of the consecration to God
in the service of the Church, and of full aggregation in the religious family of the Clerics
Regular Minor. It is the sign of the spousal love that indissolubly unites Christ to the Church,
his spouse. As we begin the celebration, let us welcome Christ in the presence of the clergy,
with Reverend Father Teodoro Kalaw, CRM, Superior General of the Clerics Regular Minor-
Adorno Fathers. Please all rise.

ENTRANCE PROCESSION
After the people and the religious community members have gathered and everyone is properly positioned, the
procession begins through the church to the altar; during this time a suitable hymn is sung. The procession
takes place as follows: first the thurifer; followed by the cross with two candle bearers, altar servers, the
candidates for the profession accompanied by their novice master, the deacons, the concelebrants, the
presider.

After the Entrance Hymn, the celebrant says:

GREETINGS

Celebrant: IN THE NAME OF THE + FATHER, AND

OF THE SON, AND OF THE HOLY
SPIRIT.
Assembly: Amen.

Celebrant: THE GRACE OF OUR LORD JESUS

CHRIST, AND THE LOVE OF GOD AND
THE COMMUNION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
BE WITH YOU ALL.
Assembly: And with your spirit.
A short introduction may be inserted by the celebrant pertaining to the celebration. Then follows the Penitential
Act, to which the celebrant invites the faithful, saying:

TO YOU, MY BROTHERS AND
SISTERS, THAT I HAVE GREATLY
SINNED, IN MY THOUGHTS AND IN MY
WORDS, IN WHAT I HAVE DONE AND
IN WHAT I HAVE FAILED TO DO,
And, striking their breast, they say:

THROUGH MY FAULT, THROUGH MY

FAULT, THROUGH MY MOST
GRIEVOUS FAULT;
Then they continue:

THEREFORE I ASK BLESSED MARY

EVER-VIRGIN, ALL THE ANGELS AND
SAINTS, AND YOU, MY BROTHERS
AND SISTERS, TO PRAY FOR ME TO
THE LORD OUR GOD.
The absolution by the celebrant follows:

Celebrant: MAY ALMIGHTY GOD HAVE MERCY ON

US, FORGIVE US OUR SINS, AND
BRING US TO EVERLASTING LIFE.
Assembly: Amen.

LORD.
Assembly: Amen.

After the blessing, the celebrant and the assembly sit while the professed remain standing.

Commentator: Please be seated as we witness the presentation of the symbols of

profession.

GIVING OF THE CRUCIFIX

From the Constitutions of the Clerics Regular Minor:

Commentator: Following Christ, the religious will learn to live no more for himself, but for
the Lord who loved him and gave himself for him, and to complete that
which is lacking in the sufferings of Christ for his body, which is the Church.
The cross should be for us, as it was for Christ, the proof of the greatest
love. We will thus render testimony of the mysterious rapport between
renunciation and joy, between sacrifice and expansion of the heart,
between discipline and spiritual freedom. (Cost. 62)

The first professed kneel before the celebrant to receive the crucifix.

Celebrant: BROTHER ARJAY CECILIO, RECEIVE THE

CROSS OF CHRIST; IN UNION WITH THE
CRUCIFIED, MAY YOUR LIFE BE A LIVING
SACRIFICE, HOLY AND ACCEPTABLE TO GOD.
Professed: Amen.

Then follows the second one:

Celebrant: BROTHER EMILIANO GUTIERREZ, JR., RECEIVE

THE CROSS OF CHRIST; IN UNION WITH THE
CRUCIFIED, MAY YOUR LIFE BE A LIVING
SACRIFICE, HOLY AND ACCEPTABLE TO GOD.
Professed: Amen.
EUCHARISTIC CELEBRATION AND RITE OF SOLEMN PROFESSION 14

GIVING OF THE TOWEL AND WASHING OF THE FEET

From the Constitutions of the Clerics Regular Minor:

Commentator: Our founders wanted the Clerics Regular Minor to add to the vows of
chastity, poverty and obedience, as an ulterior and more profound
assimilation to the humble Christ, the solemn vow of not seeking
ecclesiastical dignities. (Cost. 6) The humble presence of Jesus in the
Eucharist, and his action of washing the feet of his disciples, are for us
particular motive for dedicating ourselves to the poor, the sick and the
suffering and the marginalized of all kinds, for their complete human and
Christian promotion. (Const. 89).

Then the professed, come before the celebrant and, kneeling, receive the towel:

Celebrant: BROTHER ARJAY CECILIO, RECEIVE THE

TOWEL, SYMBOL OF HUMBLE AND GENEROUS
SERVICE AND, AS YOU RECOGNIZE CHRIST AS
YOUR LORD AND MASTER, MAY YOU IMITATE
HIM IN WASHING THE FEET OF THE BROTHERS,
NOW AND FOREVER.
Professed: Amen.

Then follows the second one:

Celebrant: BROTHER EMILIANO GUTIERREZ, JR, RECEIVE

THE TOWEL, SYMBOL OF HUMBLE AND
GENEROUS SERVICE AND, AS YOU
RECOGNIZE CHRIST AS YOUR LORD AND
MASTER, MAY YOU IMITATE HIM IN WASHING
THE FEET OF THE BROTHERS, NOW AND
FOREVER.
Professed: Amen.

The professed, assisted by an acolyte in the sanctuary arear, washes and dries the feet of the designated
person.

WELCOME IN THE COMMUNITY

After the rite, the professed line themselves up before the celebrant who rise from his sit to give the formula of
acceptance in the community.
EUCHARISTIC CELEBRATION AND RITE OF SOLEMN PROFESSION 15

Celebrant: DEAREST SONS, WITH GREAT JOY, WE

WELCOME YOU DEFINITIVELY TO OUR FAMILY
OF THE CLERICS REGULAR MINOR; FROM
NOW ON EVERYTHING WILL BE SHARED
BETWEEN US: “COMMON IS GOD, COMMON IS
THE COMMITMENT TO PERFECTION, COMMON
ARE THE DIFFICULTIES, COMMON THE WORK,
COMMON THE SALVATION, COMMON FINALLY
WILL BE THE GLORY.” (Const. 69)
The exchange of peace follows among religious and during this time a hymn is sung.

Commentator: Please be seated for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

EARTH AND WORK OF HUMAN HANDS, IT
WILL BECOME FOR US THE BREAD OF
LIFE.
Then he places the paten with the bread on the corporal. The people may respond:

Assembly: Blessed be God forever.

Celebrant: By the mystery of this water and wine may we come to

share in our humanity.
