Future plans

Hi, my name is Jake Hawley and I am a senior here at Buckingham Charter Magnet High

School. These past 4 years have helped to shape and mold me into who I am today, and who I

will become. I have never been the most academically inclined person and have found it very

hard to find myself in the books. Short attention spans, and constant need to be up and moving I

was able to excel in sports. I ran Cross country, track, did competitive boxing, grappling fighting,

and weightlifting. It was in those times outside of the books that i really thrived and succeeded.

Knowing this The beginning of this year I began meeting with different armed services recruiters

and really found my niche with Sgt.Schmitz who represented the Air Force branch. From that

moment forward I set my sights on Joining the Airforce and began to work for where I wanted to

go

I began attending numerous meetings with her to begin exploring more in depth the

different career pathways and what I saw myself doing. Not much had truly interested me until

she had told me about a special operations division that worked in conjunction with the Air

Force. Form the brief description she was able to give me off the spot I knew that's what I

wanted to do. I started beginning my paperwork to get this ball rolling. I had appointments with

banks, doctors, hygienists, coaches, etc to be able to get all the information i needed to begin my

profile. After months of appointments, papers, meetings, and more papers I was accepted to be
processed with MEPS in February 13th. I spent a few days in Sacramento taking the ASVAB,

TAPAS, and went through a very thorough physical and neuro evaluation. By the end of these

couple days I signed my DEP contract for 6 years and swore into the U.S. Air Force. A few days

later after my medical screenings were approved I received a call from SSgt. Callaway, an

officer from the USAF special warfare and operations division. After talking over the phone for

a bit we set up an appointment. A few days post appointment i received a call saying I was

eligible to test out for the special operations unit. A few days after that call I was ordered to the

KROC center to take the PAST test. The past test it a physical examination consisting of 2 x 25

meter submerged swim, 1 x 500 meter sprint swim under 10 minutes, 1.5 mile run under 10

minutes, pushups, sit ups, pull ups, etc. I was able to pass my first test and was ordered another

test date by my T3i instructor. I was also accepted into the special operation DEP unit which run

weekly workouts/ evals together. Upon completion of my second PAST test I was booked for

CCT ( combat control team) and am set to drop into BMT/ pipeline on August 8th of this year.

Following my BMT, Selection, Inoculation, and 24 month pipeline consisting of ( combat

control school, free fall school, security school. SOWT school and dive school) I will then have

6 years active duty. I signed a minimum of 4 months of combat active deployments per year. I'm

not sure where they will be sending me and what I will be doing, but look forward to being able

to have the experience , and start my life outside of high school, and pave the way to a successful

career.
