LEADERSHIP HOUR
Used & Adapted with Permission from Hilltop Internship Program
The Leadership Hour is an optional element which can be used as part of an internship program.

During this time interns will study and discuss material from renowned leaders in both Christian

and Secular settings to further develop leadership knowledge. This knowledge would then be

applied practically as the intern works in different ministry and team environments throughout

the course of their internship.

If you choose to run Leadership Hour as part of

your program, we recommend that if for any

reason, an intern is unavailable for the

Leadership Hour, they are required do a catch-

up session.

Churches are also able to adapt the Leadership Hour template program, to suit their church

culture, as well as the vision and mission of the church. The template and topics provided have

been used successfully in other internship programs, but we respect the right for churches to

graft programs to use their unique audience.

Many of the recommended readings and videos can be found online for free. However, interns

may be required to purchase the following additional resources. for the purpose of completing

the templated Leadership Hour program.

• Book - ‘Spiritual Leadership’ (J. Oswald Sanders)

• Book - ‘Sticky Teams’ (Larry Osborne)

• Podcast - Paul Scanlon “Influence is Better Than Authority Part 1”

Term 4 Program: Intern Development Sessions

Having already had their knowledge and understanding of leadership sharpened, interns will now
find and read a book about leadership, then each have 1-2 turns at leading a group study on a
chapter of that book they’ve chosen or a podcast they have listened to. The Intern Coordinator
will not have any teaching input in these intern-run sessions. However, interns will be given
feedback after each time they lead a group leadership development session by the Intern
Coordinator.

Additional Information

Reviews:

• We recommend that each intern will undergo a review at the end of each term regarding
their progression, with their Intern Coordinator.

Other Useful tools requirements:

• Wunderlist (App for Windows, Android, Apple) – management and reminders

• Google Sheets – collaboration
• Facebook / Messenger (for group chat)
• Good attitude (poor attitudes hinder the group dynamic)
