About Government College University, Faisalabad (GCUF)
Government College University Faisalabad (or GCUF) is a general university in the
industrial and agricultural hub of Pakistan, Faisalabad. According to the latest university
rankings by HEC, GCUF stands first in research category and is on 7th position in general
universities ranking list.

There are 7 Faculties and 43 Departments in university and approximately 45


thousand enrolled students in different degree programs. The GC University’s journey
started as a primary school in 1897 in the present building of Govt. College for Women,
Karkhana Bazar, Faisalabad. It was promoted to High School and Intermediate College
in 1905 and 1924 respectively. It was elevated to the degree level in 1933 and
postgraduate disciplines were introduced in 1963. The long journey that started with
the humble beginning reached its climax when it was granted the status of University

in October 2002.

The GC University, Faisalabad has a long history of excellence and distinction as an


institution. Renowned scholars and eminent personalities have served this institution
in various capacities at various stages of its history. It has produced outstanding
personnel who have earned great fame not only for themselves but also for the nation.
Famous physicist Ernest Rutherford worked here in early twentieth century and
suggested the Rutherford Model of atomic structure while working in GC University
which was then an Intermediate college. The government of the Punjab declared
Government College, Faisalabad an autonomous institution in 1990. The college was
given the status of university on 23 October 2002.

Directorate of Students’ Affairs (DSA), Government College University, Faisalabad
(GCUF) is working successfully under the prolific leadership of worthy Vice Chancellor,
Prof. Dr. Nasir Amin and the kind supervision of Dr. Nadeem Sohail, Director Students’
Affairs. It instills the spirit of confidence and enhances self-esteem among students. It
aims at showcasing and pruning the personal as well as social traits of students
through a range of extra curriculum activities. Moreover, it inculcates team work and
leadership qualities by enabling them to keep pace with changing dynamics of national
and global perspectives. It broadens their vision and widens their approach towards
knowledge, understanding and management. Furthermore, it sharpens their
theoretical, analytical and practical abilities. The prime focus is not only upon the
active participation of students but also on providing them with the platform to express
themselves through workshops, seminars, competitions, awareness drives, lectures,
festivals and conferences which ultimately lead to character building of the students.
The directorate also caters to financial assistance of deserving students based on
meritocracy. In addition to all this, DSA works hard for the maintenance of discipline in
all the functions i.e. conferences, seminars, workshops, convocations and celebrations
along with the day to day matters of the University. DSA is running several functional
societies under its wide umbrella.).

The GCUF Olympiad aims at disclosing the intellect, oratory, creativity, thrill and sport
spirit of every youngster out there by providing them with a platform to manifest their
hidden talent via JEH’D 19; a multi-category national level event. The event is an
assemblage of numerous competitions which will give the youth a baseline to prove
their worth in their respective mode of interest and avail the opportunity of diverse
social, endemic and healthy interaction. This three day struggle is to find creativity and
boast imagination of students of various universities of Pakistan. Event consists of
various competitions. We dare you to “Unfold your imagination”, mix it with your
creativity, sprinkle some innovation and suit up for the battles that are taking place in
Jeh’d 19. Join us in this struggle to bring forward the creativity and talent of our youth.

PROPOSED EVENTS, ACTIVITIES DETAILS

Event will consists of 27 different competitions, three gala dinners, Mushaira, Sufi night

with blend of folk and local music in it, offer multiple amazing opportunities for students,

gathering of more than 1500 Participants from 80 universities of Pakistan.

Competitions
 A mixture of performing arts, music, sports, literary, gaming, debating, quiz wars
and project exhibitions.
 31 different competitions.
 Participants from 80 different universities of Pakistan
 In 3 days, 9:00AM to 5:00PM

Gala Dinner | Sufi Nights | Mushaira


To make these three days even more fun and interesting, we have arranged;
 Sufi Music night to enjoy folk music of Pakistan
 Mushaira with famous names in poetry.
 Gala Dinner for participants.

SOCIAL GATHERINGS

Food Street
To facilitate the students and participants, food stalls of different food vendors will also
be placed which will be able to target university students and participants.

Product Display Exhibition


Companies will be provided space where companies, retailers and distributors will
place their products for demo and purchase. Also, sponsors will get the chance here
to market themselves in front of the audience. It would be a very good opportunity for
different companies to set up their stalls there and interact with visitors and
participants.
Sufi Nigh and Gala Dinner
To entertain the participants, gala dinners and sufi night has also been arranged, where
participants can enjoy the folk and mystical music along with dinner.

MANZOOR UL KAUNAIN QIRRAT & NAAT


SOCIETY
1. QIRA’AT COMPETITION:
• Time duration for Qira'at will be 3 to 5 minutes.
• Any verses from the Holy Quran can be recited.
• During Qira’at, verse will not be repeated.
• Marks will be awarded on the basis of pronunciation and delivery.
• Only one participant can participate from each Institute.
• The Decision of judges will be final.
• There will be no Registration fee for Qiraat Competition

2. NAAT COMPETITION:
• Naat will be in Urdu language.
• The competitor must recite only three verses without repetition.
• Naat should be melodiously recited (i.e., with Tarrannum)
• Song oriented/style Naat will not be allowed.
• Only one participant can participate from each institute.
• The Decision of judges will be final.
• There will be no Registration fee for Naat Competition

WRITERS’ CLUB GCUF


3. ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION:
• Topic of Urdu and English essay will be given at the spot.
• Essay must contain at least 1000-1200 words.
• Essay must not be plagiarized.
• One hour and thirty minutes will be given.
• Essay must be relevant to topic.
• Cell phones will not be allowed during competition
• Registration fee: Rs. 500/- per participant.

4. NAAT NIGARI:
• Tarah Misrah for Naat Nigari is

• Naat should not be more than 5 verses long and the one which exceeds the limit will receive
negative marks.
• Each participant has to submit three copies of the Naat at least one hour before the start of
Competition.
• Each University/College can nominate only one participant for the Urdu Naat Nigari
competition.
• Criteria of judgment will be based upon: Beharr/wazan, Presentation and Pronunciation and
Quality of thoughts.
• Decision of judges cannot be challenged in any case.
• Plagiarism will be checked.
• There will be no Registration fee for Naat Nigari Competition

5. URDU NAZM COMPETITION:


• The Nazm should be according to the given title.
• Title of Urdu Nazm is

• Only Azad Nazm or Paband Nazm is acceptable.
• Nasri Nazm will not be entertained.
• Presentation of Nazm should not exceed the time limit of five minutes.
• One which exceeds the time limit will lead to negative marks.
• Each participant has to submit 4 copies of the Nazm at least one hour before the start of
competition.
• The criteria of judgment will be based upon: Wazan, Presentation and Pronunciation and
Quality of thoughts
• The decision of judges cannot be challenged in any case.
• Registration fee: Rs. 500/-per participant

6. URDU GHAZAL COMPETITION:


• Ghazal should be written according to the given Traha Misra.
• Traha Mirsa of Urdu Ghazal is

• “Girah” of these Traha Misra is compulsory.
• Ghazal should not be more than 5 verses long and the one which exceeds the limit will receive
negative marks.
• Each participant has to submit three copies of the Ghazal at least, one hour before the start of
Competition
• Each University/College can nominate only one participant for the Urdu Ghazal competition.
• Criteria of judgment will be based upon: Beharr/wazan, Presentation and Pronunciation and
Quality of thoughts.
• Decision of judges cannot be challenged in any case.
• Plagiarism will be checked.
• Registration fee: Rs. 500/- per participant.

7. ENGLISH POEM COMPETITION:


 Topic: “Blindening Paranoia”
 Theme of Poem must be in a synchronized manner with the topic.
 Poetic parameters like rhythm, hyperbole, simile, personification, fallacy, metonymy, allegory
and metaphor if followed will carry bonus marks.
 Plagiarism, if found, will immediately lead to disqualification.
 Blank verse, Free verse and Iambic Parameters; ALL allowed.
 Registration fee: Rs. 500/- per participant.
 Poem must not exceed more than 8 Couplets.

9. PUNJABI GHAZAL
Tarah Misra for Punjabi Ghazal is

 Ghazal should be of 5 couplets, one who exceeds the limit will earn negative marks.
 Each University/College can nominate only one participant for the Punjabi Ghazal competition.
 Decision of judges cannot be challenged in any case.
 Each participant has to submit Five copies of the Ghazal at least one hour before the start of
competition.
 The criteria of judgment will be based upon: Behr/wazan, Presentation and Pronunciation,
Quality of thoughts.

10. URDU AFSANA COMPETITION:


 Each University/College can nominate only one participant for the Afsana competition.
 Topic of the Afsana is “Behroop”

 Any conflicting issue (regarding caste, Religion, sect etc) in the theme of Afsana is strictly
prohibited.
 The decision of judges cannot be challenged in any case.
 Registration fee of Rs. 500/-per participant.

11. BAIT BAZI COMPETITION:


 Each team will consist of two participants.
 Each University/College can nominate only one team for the Bait Bazi Competition.
 There must not more than 2 verses of ash’aar in a turn.
 All teams must keep in mind the ethical and moral values while selecting the verses.
 A verse, once recited, shall not be repeated.
 The conscious attack of Radeef is prohibited: violation will result in deduction of mark.
 The criteria of judgment will be based upon: Behr/wazan, Presentation and Pronunciation and
Quality of the verse.
 Each verse will carry the value of three marks, and each mistake will result in the loss of one
mark.
 Nazm verses are not allowed to be recited
 In case of more than one mistake in a single verse, marks equal to the number of mistakes
will be deducted from the total marks of the team.
 If any team fails to respond a verse from the other team, all three marks of that verse will be
deducted from the total marks of that team.

12. English Short Story:


 Topic: The Girl on the Other Side
 Word limit is 1200-1500 words.
 Theme must not contradict the topic.
 Characterization, scenery, plot and overall theme will decide the quality of ENTRY.
 Plagiarism, if found, will immediately disqualify the ENTRY.
 No political or sectarian material must be possessed by any ENTRY.

DRAMATICS & PERFORMING ARTS SOCIETY


13. NATAK’19 (ALL PAKISTAN DRAMA AND
14. MIME COMPETITION):
 Theme for both Drama and mime will be open.
 Drama/ Mime can be in any language.
 Every participating institute can register only one team per category.
 Entire cast and crew will not exceed 15 members.
 Play must not exceed 25-35 minutes of duration.
 Music and props will be arranged by the participating team.
 Lights will be provided by Hosts, but will be handled by the participants themselves.
 Use of vulgar actions and languages will result in disqualification.
 A performance exceeding the allocated time will be marked down accordingly.
 Decision of judges will be final and not challenge-able.
 Copied plays shall be disqualified by the judges in case of adapting a novel, play or
whatsoever, credits must be given to it’s original writer.
 All the participants from the participating institutes must be currently enrolled in that
respective institute.
 Personal attacks or jokes that in any case are linked to the judges is not allowed.
 The play shall be disqualified if the content is against the interest of Pakistan, its institutes,
Judiciary, Armed forces or any religion or sect.
 There will be no stage rehearsal time.
 Curtains closing is prohibited, only lights can be switched off (If Needed).
 The management will provide you with one spot light and lighting truss.
 Registration fee will be Rs. 4000/-per team.

15. STAND UP COMEDY


 Every participating institute can register only one team.
 Use of vulgar actions and languages will result in disqualification.
 A performance exceeding the allocated time (3 to 5 minutes) will be marked down accordingly.
 The decision of judges will be final and not challengeable.
 Registration fee will be 500 Rs. Per candidate.

16. SUFI/FOLK MUSIC:
 There will be only single round of all music competitions.
 It will be a live singing competition and all participants (solo& bands) will perform on live
Orchestra, whereas Mash-ups, Medleys, Karaoke and MIDI tracks are not allowed.
 For both solo music categories the Orchestra would be provided by host University.
 In Solo music categories every University can nominate maximum 2 of its best singers for
both Sufi and Folk music categories, one singer for each solo category separately.
 Sufi and Folk categories will be considered single in terms of Awards/Prizes distribution which
means that won awards will be given to three top positions of both categories e.g 1st, 2nd,
and 3rd positions.
 Only 5 minutes duration will be allocated to each solo performance on stage.
 Every participant team will have an open choice of selecting any Urdu/Punjabi Sufiana
Kalam/Folk song (Pakistani song/ sung by Pakistani singers) for each solo category.
 Any act of violence or abusive behavior will result in the immediate disqualification of the
entire team participating in competition.
 The organizing committee reserves the right to change the rules anytime without any prior
notice.
 Decision of the judges will be final and unchallengeable. The participants will be assessed on
the basic standard of music categories.
 Registration fee for each solo category will be Rs. 500/-.

17. BATTLE OF THE BANDS:

 The Orchestra would be provided by Host University for solo music categories, but all bands
(if they intend) can bring their own band-orchestra and will be allowed to place it on stage.
 Members of band team may not be less then 2 or more then 3.
 15 minutes will be given for band performance (including 10 minutes for Placement of band
orchestra and 5 minutes on stage singing time).
 Every participating band will have an open choice of selecting any Urdu/Punjabi Sufiana
Kalam/Folk song (Pakistani song/ sung by Pakistani singers) for band category.
 Any act of violence or abusive behavior will result in the immediate disqualification of the
entire team participating in competition.
 The organizing committee reserves the right to change the rules anytime without any prior
notice.
 Winner Bands will be given separate 3 top position prizes.
 Decision of the judges will be final and unchallengeable.
 The bands will be assessed on the basic standard of music categories.
 Registration fee for each band catagory will be Rs. 500/-

18. PAINTING COMPETITION:
 Each University/College can nominate only one participant for the competition.
 Theme of the painting will be given at the spot.
 All material required will be arranged by the participant.
 Size of surface : 24” inch 36” inch
 Preferable surface is canvas or paper.
 Medium: water colour, Acrylic paints and oil paint.
 The decision of judges cannot be challenged in any case.
 Registration fee of Rs. 500/-per participant.

19. CALLIGRAPHY COMPETITION:


 Each University/College can nominate only one participant for the competition.
 Theme for Calligraphy is “Khat e Kufi”.
 All material required will be arranged by the participant.
 Size of sheet : 18”X24”.
 Calligraphy should be on Scholar sheet or Canvas
 Medium: Oil/Poster/Acrylic paints or Calligraphy ink.
 The decision of judges cannot be challenged in any case.
 Preparation time will be 3 hours.
 Registration fee of Rs. 500/-per participant.

20. DRAWING COMPETITION:
 Each University/College can nominate only one participant for the competition.
 The Theme of the drawing will be given at the spot.
 All material required will be arranged by the participant.
 Size of sheet : 18”X24”.
 Medium will be the pencil, charcoal or pointer
 The decision of judges cannot be challenged in any case.
 Preparation time will be 3 hours.
 Registration fee of Rs. 500/-per participant.

21. HANDICRAFT COMPETITION


 Thematic pottery painting
 Competition will be on spot
 Only one pot per student
 2 entries(students) per institute will be allowed
 Medium: water color, acrylic paints, poster paints and oil paint.
 Students must bring all materials( ceramic pot ,paints and brushes )
 (Late entries will not be considered.)

22. FASHION DESIGN COMPETITION


Theme for competition: FUSION (combination of any two cultures like western & Eastern, Etc..

Rules & Regulation for Fashion Show


 Each team should have a theme for their sequence. Categories are:
 General
 Casual
 Party wear/ formal wear
 Maximum number of participants per team is 05 there should be one or two in management
team.
 All garments and accessories are to be arranged for by the participating team. The host
university is only responsible infrastructural facilities.
 It is compulsory that participatory team should wait for their results declaration beside their
absence team should disqualify from competition.
 Non ethical garments/ dresses are not allowed for competition.
 Display area will be shown to team, team is themselves, responsible to be with the display and
take care of them.
 Total 03 Mannequins will be provided to each team.

23. BATTLE OF BRAINS - QUIZ COMPETITION:
 Students of any university of PAKISTAN can participate.

ROUND-1 (Entrance Round)
 Each team would be asked 25 questions
 Each correct answer gives 10 marks.
 There would be given 30 minutes for this round.
 This round would be conducted in written form.

ROUND-2 (General Round)
 Each team would be asked 5 questions of 10 marks each.
 15 seconds would be given to answer the question.

ROUND-3 (Gambler Round)
 Each team would be asked to nominate a member from their team.
 Team discussion will not be allowed in this round
 Nominated member would be asked 5 questions of 10 marks each.

 No Team would be disqualified in this round.
ROUND-4 (Specialization Round)
 Every team will have to choose a topic among given topics
 Every team would be asked 5 questions from their chosen field.

26. ALL PAKISTAN MUHAMMAD ALI JINNAH BILINGUAL


DECLAMATION CONTEST:

 The competition will be Bilingual (English, Urdu).


 The competition will comprise of double round.
 Each participating institution is to be represented by a team comprising of two speakers only,
one to speak in Urdu and the other in English. If one of the speakers is to speak on a serious
topic and then the other one must speak on a humorous topic.
 Individual participation is also allowed.
 A Speaker may agree or disagree with the topic. The subject matter of the speech based on the
logical interpretation of the topic will carry maximum credit in terms of marks. Mere rhetorical
content, which is devoid of relevance with the topic and lacks novelty of ideas, will be strongly
discouraged.
 A speaker will speak for a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 minutes for initial round. However,
for the final round the stipulated time limit is 4-6 minutes. Marks will be deducted for failing to
observe the stipulated time limit.
 A speaker making offensive remarks about any important personage or passing controversial
religious political or sectarian remarks shall be immediately disqualified. Using words/sentences
with any indecent connotation and passing derogatory remarks against the chair will lead to
instant disqualification of the speaker. In such an event, the speaker may be asked to step down
from the podium during the speech.
 The speakers will be judged on the content of their speeches, their proficiency of the respective
language and the response of the audience.
 Paper reading is not allowed. Those who do so will be disqualified.
 Speakers should refrain from using excessive Urdu in their English speeches and vice versa.
 The team that gains the maximum aggregate points will get the team trophy. The three best
speakers, each from both English and Urdu will be awarded shields.
 The decision of the judges will be final.
 Each team may or may not be accompanied with a chaperon/teacher. However it will be
compulsory for the participants to bring their Computerized National Identity Card and their

student I.D cards of the respective institution. It is also recommended that the teams bring a
nomination letter from university/college.
 There will be the registration fee for the event; RS 500/- per individual and RS 1000/- per team.

28. ALL PAKISTAN PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES

 Each institution can nominate a team of two members. Roles will be assigned by the
management hosting the event.
 British style of parliamentary debate will be followed. Following pattern and order of match will
be adopted. Topics: Adjudicators will assign the topics 15 minutes before the matches.
 Time: One speaker shall be given seven minutes. Speech over seven minutes may be
penalized.

 Preparation: The debate will commence 15 minutes after the motion is announced.

 Points of information: The first and last minute of every speaker’s speech will be protected
minute during which no member of the opposition team will be allowed to question the
speaker.

 Shields will be presented to teams holding 1st, 2nd & 3rd positions in Parliamentary Debates.
Best Speaker Award in Parliamentary Debates will also be given.
 One parliamentary team will be charged with Rs. 1000/= in lieu of registration fee.

29. MODEL UNITED NATION (MUN)

 Each institution can nominate delegation that should have a maximum of 4 delegates
 Four committees will be held; UNSC, UNHRC, General Assembly, and MPNA
 Each delegation must have a head delegate.
 The contact detail of the head delegates must be provided.
 The team of one institution will be assigned one country/personality that will be represented by
that team.
 Countries/Personalities will be allotted on the first come first serve basis.
 Late or incomplete submission of the registration forms will lead to disqualification
 Delegates will have to be dressed up formally during the committee sessions.
 No member will be allowed to skip the session. In case of emergency the committee director
should be informed beforehand.
 Foul language and misconduct is strictly prohibited during the event. It may result in the
immediate disqualification of the delegation.
 There will be four awards for MUN; Best Delegate, Outstanding Diplomat, Honorable Mention,
Special Mention. The shields will be presented to award winners.
 Registration fee for each team is Rs. 1000/-

30. GCUF NATIONAL MOOTING COMPETITION 2019

 Each team should consist of ten members with maximum two teams representing an
institution.
 Instruments of ‘Evidence’ must be submitted to the organizers 3 days earlier the day of the
event.
 Maximum time allowed for argumentation/ trial/ proceeding is 40 minutes.
 Supplementary Rules for the competition, if any, shall be provided with the proposition

31. SOFTWARE PROJECT COMPETITION
Rules of
 One team can have min one and at max 3 team members.
 Registration Fee per team is Rs.1000/-
 Team must address the following during the evaluation:
 Define the scope of their project.
 Need and Application of the project.
 Should identify the technology and technical solution being proposed by their project.
 Original ideas based on solving current unmet needs and problems will be encouraged.
 The project/technology developed should be deployable and ready to serve, i.e. its implementation
should be complete.
 The projects will be judged on the idea implemented and the robustness of the project, so it is
recommended to provide a 'manufactured and complete' look to the project/technology.
 Teams will be served on "FIRST COME FIRST SERVE" basis.
 Participants required submitting the registration fee on spot. But on spot registrations are not
allowed.
 Participants are required to bring their institute's ID card with them on the day on
competition.
 Certificates of participation will be given to all of the registered participants only.
 Participants are encouraged to bring charts/poster and supplement material to display
information about their projects.
 The projects will be on display for general public. The participants are required to be present
with the project to demonstrate it.
 Decision of Judges will be final and cannot be challenged.
