PRESSURE TEST EXECUTION

SYLHET GAS FIELDS LIMITED PLAN FOR STORAGE TANK
REV. C

1. SCOPE

This procedure describes the method of pressure testing by nitrogen with documentation of tank for the
the project of CONDENSATE FRACTIONATION PLANT & ASSOCIATED FACILITIES
CAPACITY 4000 BBL/DAY AT RASHIDPUR, BAHUBOL, HOBIGONJ, BANGLADESH.

 API 650

3. PREPARATION OF TESTING
 Tank has been hydro‐tested, drained, cleaned, and dried.
 Verify that no impurity (solid or Liquid) are left in the tank.
 The supervisor has declared the tank is ready to take the petro-product for storage.
 The inside of the tank shall be cleaned.
 The external piping shall be isolated by closing the isolation valve.
 Tank should be installed with Breather Valve, Pressure gauge and drain valve.
 All thread connection are plugged except one which is the lowest the drain valve. This valve shall
be in closed position.
 A manometer should be installed in top of the tank to measuring pressure.
 Nitrogen hose must contain a regulator.

4. HEALTH & SAFETY

 The area of the tank and nitrogen vehicles & arrangement should be cordoned off.
 A sign must be posted which mentioned only “Authorized Personnel Can Entry”.
 Safety officer have to be present during the test.
 Before starting the test a checklist have to fill.
 All the tools, hose and safety valves must be checked prior to start the job.
 Check the function ability of the regulator installed in the nitrogen filling line.
 Manometer, Gas analyzer & regulator have to be calibrated.

5. TOOLS & EQUIPMENT

 Manometer
 Nitrogen regulator
 Nitrogen Tanker
 Pressure Gauge
 Gas Analyzer/ Tester

6. PRESSURE TEST BY NITROGEN

6.1 PRESSURE TESTING IN EMPTY TANKS (NOT IN OPERATION)

a) For empty tank, nitrogen will be filled from bottom shell N2 nozzle point.
b) Filling with nitrogen should be started to ensure that the pressure in the tank is gradually
increased to .02 barg (15 mmHg or 20 mbar)
c) At first once 5 mbar pressure achieved, filling will be stopped.
d) Holding time is 30 Minutes with soap testing at curb angle to roof plate welding.
e) If there is no leakage then again start filling with nitrogen.
f) Once 10 mbar pressure achieved, filling will be stopped and holding the pressure for 30
minutes with soap testing at curb angle to roof plate welding.
g) If there is no leakage then again start filling with nitrogen.
h) Once 15 mbar pressure achieved, filling will be stopped and holding the pressure for 30
minutes with soap testing at curb angle to roof plate welding.
i) If there is no leakage then the breather valves will be deactivated.
j) The nitrogen will be filling carefully to reach the pressure 20 mbar.
k) Final holding time is 60 Minutes with soap testing at curb angle to roof plate welding.
l) After satisfactory result, pressure will be released by opening the vent valve up to 15mbar.
m) Then BV will be activated.
n) After that, remove hose connection of nitrogen supply.
o) Remove the fittings of the manometer from the tank top.
p) Careful control and monitoring is required for changes of pressures & temperature during this
testing.

6.2 PRESSURE TESTING IN PARTIALLY FILLED TANKS (IN OPERATION)

a) For partially filled tank with petro-product i.e. condensate, motor spirit etc., nitrogen will be
filled from tank top observation nozzle with a NPT blind flanges with a valve actuator.
b) Filling with nitrogen should be started to ensure that the pressure in the tank is gradually
increased to .02 barg (15 mmHg or 20 mbar)
c) At first once 5 mbar pressure achieved, filling will be stopped.
d) Holding time is 30 Minutes with soap testing at curb angle to roof plate welding.
e) If there is no leakage then again start filling with nitrogen.
f) Once 10 mbar pressure achieved, filling will be stopped and holding the pressure for 30
minutes with soap testing at curb angle to roof plate welding.
g) If there is no leakage then again start filling with nitrogen.
h) Once 15 mbar pressure achieved, filling will be stopped and holding the pressure for 30
minutes with soap testing at curb angle to roof plate welding.
i) If there is no leakage then the breather valves will be deactivated.
j) The nitrogen will be filling carefully to reach the pressure 20 mbar.
k) Final holding time is 60 Minutes with soap testing at curb angle to roof plate welding.
l) After satisfactory result, pressure will be released by opening the vent valve up to 15mbar.
m) Then BV will be activated.
n) Remove the fittings of the manometer from the tank top.
o) Careful control and monitoring is required for changes of pressures & temperature during this
testing.
