ASSESSMENTS (How I will know students have achieved the objective(s))
 Formative:
class discussion, one-on-one discussion, participation, listening skills, writing in writing book

PROCEDURE
Introduction Time
Have students gather on the floor in front of the blue chair. Review our work yesterday where we
discussed what our research will look like and what questions we are answering.
Go over how to change bullet points into sentences.
Review WHY we are doing a writing research paper.
Body Time
Begin by discussing the jaguar – read through one book and have students stop me when they find some
information that we can add to our chart – they have to tell me what section it falls under!

Once we have read through one book, have the students move over to the floor for a video – once again
have students ready to take away info and explain where we can add it to our chart.

After watching our video, switch back to our second book and once again work through it.
Go back to smart board and review Pebble GO and National Geographic.

We should have lots of information added to our chart after this, and students should be ready to find
their biggest take aways to practice our writing from bullet points to sentences.

Students will meet with a business partner to discuss what they are going to write about in their writing
journals.

Students will be encouraged to write as many sentences as they can – for lows this could be two
sentences, and for our highs, it could be up to five or six.
Send Mary, Aidan, Liam, Alexander, and Carter to work with Sandra.
Send Jacqueline, Ian, Jace, and Amelia to work with Susan.

I will group the tables up according to writing strength so that I can hangout at one specific table instead of
travelling constantly.

Students have a picture of a jaguar to glue into the top of their writing books, and they are to write the
title, and then begin the sentences.
This is practice for our research project. – only 10-15min of writing.
Closure Time
To finish the lesson I will discuss how we will continue research into next week and hopefully get it done
on Monday so that we can begin our research projects!
I will ask students to tell me what is their favorite thing they learned about jaguars.
