Global Warming
Walking outside every day brings a different feeling every time. One day it will be
45 degrees and windy, and the next day it will be 60 degrees and calm. One reason this
worse. Many people know about global warming but think that it is not a big enough
issue to pay attention to. Global warming affects our everyday life and something needs
There’s a treaty called kyoto protocol and it says that green-house emissions
need to be below the 1990 levels in five years. Australia and the Unites states did not
participate and they are one-quarter of green-house emissions (Source A). This is a big
problem for not just the United States and Australia. Everything we do affects everything
and everyone. The Kyoto protocol is a good first step in trying to repair the damage the
human has done. Even the animals patterns are being affected. Early- arriving birds
could overtake the food resources that the birds that only migrate during the
daylight(Source F). The birds that only travel during daylight will not get the food they
need and they will start dying off. Spring snowstorms could wipe out the columbine (a
flower) completely( Source F). Even the ocean in 1910 was an average -1.2 degrees,
but in 2004 it was about, at average, 0.5 degrees (Source B). That a big jump in under
one hundred years. If everyone doesn’t step in and try to make a difference, nature will
keep taking hits, Ultimately effecting us humans. Who wants to live with a scarce food
supply?
On the other hand there’s a major flaw in the Kyoto protocol. The protocol only
helps about three percent to eight percent for half of the developed world. Scientists
have suggested sixty percent global cut will be needed in order to make a sufficient
change (Source E). Just making one change will not be enough. Many things need to
change, such a gas or factories letting all of their smoke go into the air we breathe.
Global warming wont get too much worse in our generation than it already is. It will be
our great grand children that will have to live with our decisions.
Something needs to be done in order to save our planet. The kyoto protocol is a
start, but that shouldn’t be the only thing done. More ideas and changes need to be
done in order to save our animals, plants. water supply, and ourselves. What could you
do to help?
