Managing Food Allergens
Working with the University of Nebraska-
Lincoln's Food Allergy Research & Resource
Program (FARRP), Neogen pioneered rapid,
on-site testing for food allergens in 1998, and
it continues to lead the food allergen testing
market. Neogen offers the largest variety of
simple and accurate tests for peanut, almond,
hazelnut, walnut, milk, egg, soy, mustard, lu-
pine, gliadin, sesame, and crustacea.
Neogen’s tests are ideally suited to verify sani-
tation in a food safety program, or as part of
a SSOP when changing over from a food aller-
gen-containing product. They can accurately
test environmental surfaces, CIP rinse waters,
raw materials, or product throughout the pro-
duction process.
Neogen offers BioKits microwell tests, as well
as its Alert® and Veratox® microwell formats.

Neogen’s food allergen tests can detect the target allergen in ingredients, liquids, clean-in-place (CIP) rinses, finished foods, and
on environmental surfaces.

Reveal ® 3-D for Food Allergens

Neogen’s Reveal 3-D tests are uniquely designed with 3 lines of detection and can be used to screen for
the presence of low levels of allergens in rinses and on environmental swabs virtually anywhere. Sample
preparation and testing take less than 10 minutes, making them excellent choices for on-site food allergen
control. Each kit contains everything needed (including swabs) to perform the test.

Reveal ® for Food Allergens

Neogen’s Reveal format combines the accuracy of previous generations of rapid food allergen screening
tests with the simplicity and speed of a test strip format. After extraction, a tester needs only 5–10 minutes
to produce accurate and easy-to-interpret sample results. After dipping the strip into a sample extract, two
lines will form to indicate the presence of at least 5 ppm of an allergen. If an allergen is not detected, only
one control line will form to indicate the test has been performed correctly.

Alert ® for Food Allergens

Neogen’s Alert line of microwell food allergen tests are sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays
(S-ELISAs) that allow for the rapid screening of a food ingredient, food product, CIP rinse water or environmental
sample for the presence of a target food allergen. Each test kit contains all the reagents needed to perform
the test, and requires only a minimum of training and additional equipment. In 30 minutes following extraction,
testers can visually determine whether a sample contains more or less of a target food allergen than the
supplied control (e.g., 5 ppm). The Alert test is ideally suited for testing multiple samples at one time.

Veratox ® for Food Allergens
Neogen’s Veratox microwell food allergen test kits are S-ELISAs that require minimal training and a minimum
of standard laboratory equipment to produce quantitative results in 30 minutes following extraction. The
tests provide food processors a method of easily determining if an ingredient or product has been subjected
to cross-contact with a food allergen. The Veratox format provides easy data tracking and analysis.

which are indirect competitive ELISAs. They require minimal training and a minimum of standard laboratory
equipment to produce quantitative results in 75–180 minutes following extraction. The tests provide food
processors a method of determining if an ingredient or product has been subjected to cross-contact with
a food allergen.
