Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION

A lot of people choose establishments or enjoy their meals almost similar to what they

prepare at home or dine with their families (F.M. Santos- Anderson 2014). Many of students eat

with their family, boarding schools serve formal meals in a common dining room, a lot of

students lived far away and has a low financial budget for their meals. A canteen is a place where

food is to be served and eaten, where different Snack and Drink products are sold. A school

utilizes a canteen to meet the food and nutritional needs of its students in order for them to have

a energy in to accomplish the task that they would do for the they. The canteen staff or personnel

are the people who run the canteen. They are ones who interact with the students and ask for

their order. They are the one who serve the students their meal. They are responsible to keeping

the facility in a proper shape so that the students are able to feel satisfied about the environment.

Usage of school canteen occurs when the student’s attendance is tied to the semester schedule

and prolonged times when students are not on campus.

La Consolacion University Philippines (LCUP) was established in May 1937. Formerly

known as University of Regina Carmeli (URC), is a co-educational Catholic University

established and administered by the Augustinian Sisters of Our Lady of La Consolacion

(ASOLC). Base on the enrollment data of the main campus located at Malolos City for academic

Year 2018-2019 from the office of University Registrar, it has close to 26,000 numbers of

students. As of the record BSBA1 has the largest number of population in the campus.

As the population increases in the Campus, the demand for food also increases. Outside

the campus there are also small “karinderya” nearby school at Gate 2 and it is not enough for the
large number of student. There are also, not to mention the mall and the major fast food chains

located within the vicinity.

This study focuses on the level of satisfaction of the BSBA1 students of La Consolacion

University Philippines of Malolos City Bulacan when it comes to the Food and Services of the

school’s canteen. Researchers have chosen to study this topic because as students, we need a

place where we are able to feel comfortable and satisfied during break times. Therefore,

Researchers thought that studying the canteen’s food and services is very relevant and beneficial

to whomever may come across our research.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This research aims to know the level of satisfaction of the BSBA1 students regarding the

canteen’s food and service in La Consolacion University Philippines in Malolos City.

Students level of Satisfaction with regards to the Food and Services.

What do the students consider before buying a product from the canteen?

1. What parts of the facilities are well maintained?

2. What approach of the canteen service makes students feel satisfied?

3. What are the varieties of products that are sufficient to choose from?

4. What is the food served that satisfies the students?

5. What foods that the students can buy that will be enough for their meal allowance?
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Findings of the research/study will be significant to the following:

For the Students

The results would give knowledge and ideas about their schoolmates’ level of satisfaction

and they would be able to evaluate on their own. This research would help also to have a detailed

analysis of satisfaction of the canteen service and food.

For the Parents

They would be aware of how the canteens’ staff treats their Children and how the food

that their children consume affects them. This research will give the parents knowledge about

their children’s level of satisfaction in the canteen’s food and services

For the School Management

This research would help give the school detailed description regarding canteen’s food

and service and it may be the results may give them new ideas and motivations for change and

improvement. It might also help enhance the relationship of the school and students.

Scope and Limitations

The scope of this research is only about the level of satisfaction on the school canteen’s

food and services of BSBA1 students of La Consolacion University Philippines of Malolos City.

This includes the food that satisfies the students, the service attributes, the variety of products,

and the canteen facility.

The limitation of this research is the BSBA1 students of La Consolacion University

Philippines of Malolos City who were randomly chosen to answer the researcher’s questionnaire.
Theoretical/Conceptual Framework

To provide clarity on the relationship of different variables and to provide a concrete

framework for the study, a Theoretical and Conceptual framework is in Figure 1 and Figure 2.

Marketing Aspect

This aspect is to describe the marketing situation of Café Monica’s Foods and
Services. Were the products can be identified by the demands of BSBA1 students.

Operation Aspect

This aspect is to distinguish the procedures that show the efficiency and
productivity of the Café Monica in order for researchers to identify the possible wants and needs
of the BSBA 1 students for the café to be improved and bring to the table what is needed to
provide the necessary methods to develop and enhance the level of satisfaction of their
customers.

Management Aspect

This aspect is to identify the organizational activities and acts of getting staff
together to accomplish the desired goal and objectives effectively

Soci-Economic Aspect
