ACKNOWLEDGMENT

I would be honored to bestow this Narrative book to my family especially

to my parents who supported me morally and financially. These two people were

persistent and tirelessly reminding, giving good counsel and assistance. My

“thank you’s” were not enough for everything that they have contributed into my

entire life and for all the values they have imparted and entrusting me that I can

do well in my field and be able to achieve a higher education.

This project would not have been possible without the guidance and the

help of several individuals who in one way or another contributed and extended

their valuable assistance in the preparation and completion of this portfolio. I

would also dedicate this to the Principal of Asuncion National High School, Sir

Arnel P Servino for accepting and allowing us to conduct our Pre-service

Teaching; to my students at Asuncion National High School whom I spent 3

months of my practice teaching, where I gain a lot of experiences as a student

teacher and share to them what I have learned in practice teaching. I will never

forget the memories, the feelings and the days we shared, I will always

remember all the emotions I felt every day I entered the ANHS forever.

My sincere appreciation also goes to my cooperating teacher, Ma’am

Juravic Ganir Seville, who helped me to developed my teaching skills, mold me

into an effective teacher and shared all the knowledge and experienced she had

in teaching; for showing the love and care for the learners, and teaching me to do

my best in every lesson and most importantly for being a hands-on cooperating

teacher. The patience, dedication and the passion she possessed is something

to admire. I wanted to thank her especially for always being so open-minded and
for being passionate on her teaching; for the reminders, comments and

feedbacks in my lesson plan and in my way of teaching. I am not where I am

standing today if it’s not because of my cooperating teacher who contributed her

untiring supervision, concern, support, encouragement, understanding and most

of all for her patience in checking my lesson plan.

In addition, I would like also to dedicate this to my advisory class, the

Grade 10 student which is the section Laurel and also to the sections Rizal, Del

Pilar, Zamora, Bonifacio, Mabini, and Jacinto for being my friends inside and

outside of the school. The adventures we take, the laughs that we’ve shared and

the tears were immeasurable, where no one can ever surpass the bonds we had.

I am grateful also to express my exceedingly appreciation to the parents

whom I’ve met on my pre-student teaching journey, and to all the students who

welcomed me wholeheartedly. To the Tandog family, Solano family, Libres

family, Pableo family and to Capumpue family thank you for making me a part of

your lives and I promise to keep all the remarkable memories that we’ve shared

here in my heart forever.

And above all, to our HEAVENLY FATHER who sustains all my needs,

physically, mentally, emotionally and even spiritually. To Him who never stop

guiding and giving me the knowledge, wisdom and understanding that I need till

the end; for answering my prayers, for giving me the strength, patience, courage,

unceasing blessings, and His endless love on this entire journey in order for me

to triumph the goal of being an effective teacher.

AUTOBIOGRAPHY

My name is Melissa Lajos. I was born in a cold, Tuesday evening on March at

Ising, Carmen Davao del Norte and at present time. I live in a big family, my

parents name Gloria and Fernando Lajos. We are 8 siblings in the family, I have

3 brothers named Fernando Jr. (Master Sargent), Francis (Auto Mechanic) and

Frederick, currently taking up Criminology in ACES Polytechnic College. In

addition, I have 4 sisters Glenda, our eldest, Maricres, Vanessa my twin sister

and April Rose, our youngest. We are very close in the family, but like other

siblings we quarrel sometimes like cats and dogs. I’m so grateful because I have

a family like them, though we are very loud and sometimes quarreling, I love

them very much. At times, I was a bit sad when the house left so quite because I

got used seeing them and hearing their voices. They are my strength as well as

my weakness.

The name Melissa comes in a Greek baby name. In Greek the meaning of the

name Melisa is: Bee. Famous bearer: Melissa, Mythological princess of Crete

transformed to a bee after learning to collect honey. I was named by my

grandmother.

I’m a lovable and romantic type, very fond with nature, appreciative and

affectionate even in small things, adventurous, strange, imaginative and

conscientiousness. I say romantic because I display great love towards other and

I had a side of being concern to the people even though I don’t have any relation

to them. I am appreciative and affectionate because I can easily understand how

good and grateful things are. Adventurous, because I like exploring new things,
willing to learn new things and I want to have a lot of experiences and meeting

other people. Strange because I’m kind of a childish and I easily get upset in

small things but return mood immediately. Imaginative because I come up with a

lot of ideas that could be resourceful and I’m imagine things impossible to

happen. Conscientiousness, because I plan ahead rather than being

spontaneous, I want to finish thing that needed to be done to avoid problems.

I started school when I was six-years-old. I went to kindergarten through sixth

grade at in Carmen Central Elementary School and while I was there, I joined

different activities like Girls Scout and Journal Writing. I also won an award for

honor roll from Grade 1- Grade 6. Then I attended Carmen National High School,

and there I also I joined different activities like being a Vice-President of a YES-

O, attending different camps and for being honor roll from 1 st year until 4th year.

I am now in finishing my 4th year college in Davao del Norte State College.

On my 3rd highs school years, I met this boy named Regie Vasquez, we became

text mate, friends and become a couple during our last year in High School. He

supported me during my hard times, in my studies, in my family issues and even

financial issues. He’s also a talented but shy person, he’s excellent in

mathematics which I hated most and also a great singer and of course which is

opposite to me, He’s been there and never gets tired helping and supporting me

over past 6 years. Sometimes, were not like couple because we treat each other

as normal friends, best friends and like brothers and sister. Some people see us

siblings.
I love reading romantic stories, eating chocolates and ice cream, I also like to

bake cakes and cookies, it seems that foods keep me comfort if I had bad

moments. Watching movies and listening to music’s, especially old songs are my

stress reliever. I love being in the beach or in the forest as long as I see the

creation of our Almighty not just a human made.

Entering College became a big challenge to me, there are a doubts and what if’s

in my head, but I met a group of girls which became my best friends. And that’s

what I’m so grateful about for having them they show kindness and beyond sister

relationship. College life like up’s and down, you met different problems but a lot

of success.

Life to me means friends and family who you can trust and who trusts you. I am

pretty much on the happy side of life, but like all teens I do I have my "days of."

That means I do have some sad days or depressed days. I have a lot of friends

that I can share with my problems, we’ve been friends since 1 st year college and

I’m lucky to have them in my life. I make my school days go by thinking of either

the next hour or what I will do when I get home or on the weekend. I’m a type of

person that I want to do in advance all the work; it is because I don’t like being in

a rush if the deadline is near.

PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

‘’Creative Teacher inside the classroom is an Effective Teacher’’

My Philosophy of Education is that the teacher must also provide students’

access to hands-on activities because it fosters lifelong skills which are useful in

everyday life, I believe in teaching that the learners learn best when it involves

actual performance of the student because they were able to reflect their learning

in real life situation.

“Play is our brain’s favorite way of learning” – Diane Ackeman

I believed in teaching that learners learn through games. Using games as

an educational tool provides opportunities for deeper learning. Games make

students involved in the lesson and enjoy learning. It arouses the interest and the

curiosity of the students.

Moreover, I believe in applying technology inside the classroom. Students

prefer technology because they believe that it makes learning more interesting

and fun. The curiosities of the learners lead to self-exploration. Through this, it

helps learners develop the technological skills of the students to be prepared to

enter the workforce real life in the near future.

Furthermore, I believe that the success in classroom management

depends on techniques, methods and approaches you will use. Making a good

lesson plan is a great factor in handling learners during your activity or class

discussion; it serves as your guide and flow of your lesson. Through this you can

assure that they will learn according to your plan.

A philosophy of education represents answers to questions about the

purpose of schooling, a teacher's role, and what should be taught and by what

methods. Through this Philosophy of Education of mine, I can provide

opportunities and resources for my students to discover or construct concept for

themselves.
Description

Asuncion National High School is situated at the heart of a man-made

forest ecosystem of Purok 12, Poblacion, Asuncion, Davao del Norte,

Philippines. It has an area of 60,000 square meters. Aside from being

sorrounded by the green colors of various types of plant species, the school is

blessed with many resources such as human, water and fertile soil. All its

resources are being utilized for the benefit of the students, teachers and the

community. The school is known for perpetual implementation of the Clean and

Green Program, Livelihood Projects, Outreached Programs, ICT Programs and

has given a greater emphasis on Academic related programs and activities.

History

The school was created under Resolution No.2 series of 70 of Association

of Barrio Councils (ABC ) order to accommodate the increasing number of

elementary graduates from the different barangays of the Municipality of

Asuncion. The resolution was subsequently approved by the Department of

Education Culture and Sports (DECS) pursuant to R.A 6054, otherwise known as

the "Barrio High School Chapter". The school was then named Asuncion

Community High School.

In its first year of operation in June 1971, one classroom of the

Cambanogoy Central Elementary School served as its temporary shelter with

Mrs. Lina D. Buenaflor as its first lone teacher assigned to a class of 45

freshmen. Mr. Jose Baldonado,Sr., the principal then of Cambanogoy Central

Elementary School, was designated as the new high school's first administrator.

A year after, the task of up scaling the operation of the school became one

of the top priorities of the municipal government, hence it was renamed Asuncion

Municipal High School. In 1974, Mr. Jose Baldonado, Jr., was appointed as its

Head Teacher and served in the same capacity until 1981 when he was

succeeded by the dynamic Mrs. Lina D. Buenaflor.

From the time of its inception, it took almost two decades before the

school was finally transferred to its present six-hectare site less than a kilometer

away from the town center. In 1988, the same year when R.A 6655, otherwise

known as " Free Secondary Education Act" was implemented, it was elevated to

the status of a national academic institution and was renamed Asuncion Nationla

High School.

The school's first ten years of operation was a true test of survival since it

thrived solely on the tuition fees collected from students by the municipal

treasury. The strong determination of its founders and supporters and their deep

commitment to the vision of providing secondary education to the youth of the

municipality had propelled the school to continue its vision and mission.
VISSION

School of well-rounded personality individuals who respect man,

appreciate environment, interactive in building a just Filipino and fear the Lord.

MISSION

Improve school facilities with component and trained teachers in

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to functionality implement the

ICT program and the curriculum relevant to the learners needs in a conducive

learning environment with parents, community and other institution that manifest

a strong advocacy to educational endeavor in order to produce quality graduates.

My Teaching Career Development Plan

Once I have accomplished my final step to becoming a teacher which is to pass

the LPT, my future goal as a teacher, would become a “good” teacher. I believe

making a difference in the life of a child is at the heart of every teacher. In order

for me to do that I have created a list of goals to help me stay focused throughout

my entire teaching career. At some point, I want also to have Master Degree. It

needs effort and focus to achieve each goal, but I’ll take all those steps to bring

me closer to what I desire.

I often evaluate where I am and where I want to be in life. I asked myself: Why

be a teacher? Many people said to me that being a teacher is the busiest

profession you will choose, a lot of stress, tiring days and lot of paper works to

do. Such question just became certainly answerable after I experienced the off-

campus teaching in Asuncion National High School. I really had a very

memorable and worthwhile experience in my cooperating school that opened my

mind and heart to embrace teaching profession as my lifetime career after my

graduation. Ever since this is my dream, to teach children and be part of their

lives, I want them to remember me and think on me in the future that they had a

teacher like me.

In order to fulfill this career, my future plan will be: get a college diploma, be a

certified teacher and gain experiences and enroll again to have Master Degree.

As a future I need to be very organized and creative. I need to prepare and

establish classroom that is child friendly, have a strong relationship with students;
students feel physically and emotionally safe and Students know that they are

valued and respected. They see the classroom as a place where they can be

themselves and express themselves and their ideas without judgment.

I will set high goals as a teacher and do my best to show each and every student

that my goals are within their reach. I will expect every one of my students to

eager to learn and more importantly to understand.

NARRATIVE OF EXPERIENCES with STUDENTS

Words is not enough to describe what I feel right now, having the feeling of being

honored of yourself because you were able to touch the lives of your students is

a big achievement that you can’t really envision. Becoming an agent of change of

my students is a great achievement. Once, one of my students told me that he

doesn’t want to pursue his studies any longer. I was then confused, I ask the

reason why and he said “I'm tired of studying, it’s enough for me that I made it

this far”. I was shocked because of what he said. I felt down because I didn’t

expect that those words would come out of his mouth. I can’t imagine on his

young mind, he already thinks of quitting. For how many days, I never stopped

convincing him that he needs to continue his studies because for me he has a

brighter future ahead; another reason is that he is the eldest in their family and I

know that his family will going to rely on him someday. I discouraged him for

what will be the possible outcome of his own decision to his future life. Even

though, I don’t know what will be his decision this time and in the near future but

at least I will do everything I can to change his mind and I hope that whatever his

decision may be, he will consider my advice as a part of his choice in life. In my

own observation, it is hard for the students of ANHS to pursue their studies

because of the lack of financial assistance and the source of income. We all

know that some of the students now were not able to go to school because of the

unavailability of the materials they need. However, I’m so overwhelmed and

inspired by my one student because despite of the long distance, she walked for

almost 2 hours just to go to school. During my home visit to my student I never

imagine that I can experience to walk that long just to get there. She wakes up at

5am to prepare and walk on her way to school every day in a narrow road. I had

8 (eight) visitation with different students during my training and I’m so happy

because I was able to know their views and met their parents.

Nevertheless, I had this one male student who doesn’t excel in class. His

absences become a destruction to his studies. He told me that before I became

their student teacher he never try to attend the class and sometimes the entire

day. One time during my activity, the cut out paper consist of questions, one of

the question goes like "what do you like most in me and why?". He answered to

the class, " I'm happy because you're my teacher in food processing, you know

ma’am I like you because I've learned a lot from you, unlike others that I did not

learned too much from them ", "I really like your activity because you always

called me to answer", and that moment I really wanted to cry, not because of the

complement but because he really mean it, I saw a glimpse of tears in his eyes. I

observe lately that he had interest in my lesson, in past few days and in few

weeks after the orientation. I don’t know how to react that time, all I just feel is a

mix emotion and I responded him a thankful smile. I also had an experienced of

home visitation that gave me a great learning, I had this one student that is not

under my class but we recognize him because we always went to their house if

there’s no supply of water. Last day of our stay in ANHS, before I packed all my

things I went to their house to pick up the flowers I ask to his mother for the past

two weeks. When I arrived, I saw his mother drying the grains and I volunteered

to do it since I had an experience of drying grains. As we rested under their

"mandarin tree", we discussed the life of their old times and shared my mother’s

too. We talked about her education, personal life, how hard to have an education

in their time and the difference between the present and past educational

system. She also shared to me the poverty they have experienced, they stop

going to school because they were chased by the different native at their school.

I shared to her family problems and then she gives me advices that will motivate

me. My realization to what we discussed for 3 hours is that, life is so simple so

don’t make it complicated but assure to yourself that you have a future, you don’t

need to be in a rush because God has set a plan for you appreciate little things

and don’t be overwhelmed by the material things because that is not a true

happiness. Having conversation with parents and guardians of my learners, it

makes me realized that being a teacher is a great profession, it is because you

can experience everything and felt all mix emotion, the happiness you felt from

the learners is beyond what you have expected. It is really a noblest profession,

nothing can explain the feeling of knowing that the child learned something from

you and I can’t believe that being a student teacher can change the life of a

learner, they believe me because I’m a role model to them.

NARRATIVE OF EXPERIENCES with PARENT TEACHERS

Co-operating teacher is the one who guided the student teacher, she help me to

improved my teaching skills, mold me into an effective teacher and shared all the

knowledge and experienced she had in teaching. She always shows the love and

care for the learners, and teaching me to do my best in every lesson and most

importantly for being a hands-on cooperating teacher. The patience, dedication

and the passion she possessed is something to admire. She is so open-minded

and passionate on her teaching. Her reminders, comments and feedbacks in my

lesson plan and in my way of teaching were a great help to improve and I know

what area I need to improve. I am not who I am standing today if not because of

my cooperating teacher who possessed untiring supervise, concern, support,

encouragement, understanding and most of all for her patience in checking my

lesson plan. When I get sick, she always monitors me if I’m feeling okay or what I

need. I’m so grateful because unlike other teachers that though they show

concerns but they lack in actions. I’m so lucky because I had a co- operating

teacher like her. She's always there, assisting me, molding me and teaching what

she learns from her (6years) of service. She is indeed a hands on teacher, she is

also a kind of person who has integrity, honesty and very passionate. Honest,

because she always tells what is right and just. I’m also grateful for all the co-
teachers of my co-operating teacher because they are very sociable and

approachable, they joke around and chitchatting with me. We had this moment

that we acted like sisters, she even invited me to attend JS Prom with all her

expenses, but I rejected her offer because I don’t have something to wear and no

time to prepare. My co-operating teacher is very conscientiousness in every

requirement the school needed. She always provided me a document that I can

be used in the future, she taught me how to solve grades step by step, and how

to do the different forms.

NARRATIVE OF EXPERIENCES with PRACTICUM SUPERVISOR

I had these knowledgeable and very funny experiences to my Practicum

Supervisors, Arnold M. Duping Ph.D. and Prof. John Rae Duran. They visited us

to observe our demonstration and to evaluate us on what area we need to

improve. After that, we had a meeting about what we demonstrated, problems,

what area we struggled and about the status of relationship with our co-operating

teachers. There was a time when it was raining so hard that we need to shout to

be heard by them and it’s so hilarious. He gives emphasis to what is lacking in

my demonstration and suggested methods and strategies on how to handle class

discussion. After the knowledge and ideas we gain, we jokingly invited them to

have dinner at the boarding house so that they could treat us and for the

successful visitation and we didn’t expect that they will come. Then we had an

abrupt preparation that afternoon. Unluckily, we arrived at the boarding house

without electricity. While waiting on the electricity, we talked about many things,

we joked around and we really had a great time. I find it so hilarious because it

seems that we had been in a candlelight dinner. We saw the other side of our

Dean and our Prof. Sir Duran which is one of our memorable days of staying in

Asuncion. I am honored and blessed to be one of DNSC’s pride.

NARRATIVE OF EXPERIENCES with CO-PRACTICE TEACHERS

Together with my co-practice teacher, we shared a lot of experiences.

One of these is when we experienced unexpected floods, we prepared lesson

plan and I’Ms that time when the classes was suspended because of heavy rain

and didn’t expected that Asuncion National High School can be easily affected by

flood. There is a time when there is a lack of water supply that the only option is

to please one of the students house just to bathe. We experience to have a meal

with extra ordinary viand because of our different skills and experienced eating a

meal with junk foods as our viand because of inadequate supply of foods. I’m so

fortunate because my co-practice teachers are approachable from the beginning;

they are so welcoming and can be a shoulder to rest on if you have a problem.

Being into a quarrel is very usual particularly if you offended a feeling of

somebody. We quarreled most of the time because of several misinterpretation

but we try to fix straightway before it became worsen. I called them ‘’kuya’’ and

“ate’’ even though I’m older than them, it’s just because I felt more comfortable if

I called them like that way. We are very open to each other and it seems like we

truly know each other for a long time because we can easily understand and

willing to do an offer for each other. We had a good team leader; she set rules

and regulations, cleaners and consequences if the guidelines will not be followed

for us to be disciplined. The funniest experienced that I will never forget is that

listing of names in which comfort room you’ll prefer to used and who’s person

your going to be followed, it became our routine every morning when the clock

strikes at 4:00. It’s so much fun to reminisce the faces and the silly moments
while listing the names, since we are sleepless we don’t know what is happening

around. Every time your roommate awakens you to write your name you felt a

thunder volt over your body and walked like a zombie, find a pen, write your

name and signature then go back to sleep and you don’t remember later on that

your co-practice teachers makes fun of you. I’m so thankful for the reason that

they have been part of my journey in this field. I learned a lot from them, they

indeed mean something special to me. I had these co-practice teachers who act

as my older sisters for they always remind me of what I needed to be done

particularly when I sometimes become lazy making my lesson plans and I’Ms.

Without them, I will not ever be a productive student teacher now. They totally

show kindness, love concern and became my true friends, siblings and

unexplainable bonds.
SUMMARY OF THE LESSONS LEARNED

My student teaching experience has been incredibly rewarding! I have

been able to apply much of what I have learned as a TLE education student at

Davao del Norte State College and develop effective and engaging teaching

strategies in the class room. The areas of success within my experience involve

creating a safe and welcoming classroom environment, positive rapport with

students, individualization of instruction, knowledge and application of the

strategies, methods and approaches.

Throughout my student teaching experience, I sought out to design lesson

plans based on the individual needs of each of my students. Accommodations for

students who were advanced and those who were struggling were always

considered and employed with different approaches. I frequently spoke with

students one-on-one, fostering a caring and welcoming environment while at the

same time discovering individual learning needs and styles. The students were

comfortable approaching me as well as one another for help and input, an

essential element to any successful learning environment. I was able to see their

improvement from the beginning till the end of my class. They became more

participative in every activity that I prepared which also they enjoyed.

In summary, knowing your learners and building relationship is great

advantage both of you and with your learners. Forming these connections is not

only personally valuable, but it creates such a positive environment for the entire

class. Creating friendly community within the classroom plays such a role in the

class’s success, and I have loved learning this throughout my experiences.

II. INTRODUCTION

Field study & (Practice Teaching) is the application of the training of the

education students.

Practice Teaching is letting the student-teachers experience reality. Deal

with diverse students with extraordinary characteristics. This helps to the growth

of student-teachers as beginners and will open their eyes of what it takes to be a

teacher.

This also give opportunities to the student- teacher to see the different

behaviors of the learners and able to reflect the importance of planning and

organizing. Opportunities to spend time and create memories, build relationship

with the learners, co-operating teacher and adopt the school environment and

able to reflect.

In the whole duration of internship, students-teachers are mentioned and

guided by their Cooperating Teachers (CTs) through observations, giving

comments and advice. Through these a student-teacher will grow and become a

better teacher in the future as their experiences in practice teaching link with the

expertise of their CT. This will enhance the capabilities and skills of a student-

teacher. The purpose is that to learn, to develop and to improve the different

aspects of our lives.

This Narrative report will show you my insights, challenges that I had, the

problems and able to know those people who accept me as their teacher, friends,

best friend and be their sister.

VI. STUDENT TEACHER’S INDUCTION ACTIVITIES AND IN HOUSE
TRAINING
These are the content of the Power Point Presentation he discussed:

He discussed The Policy and the Guidelines on Daily Lesson Preparation

for the K-12 Basic Education Program. He explained that the Department of

Education recognizes that instructional planning is essential to successful

teaching and learning (Dick and Reiser 1996). About also the Rationale,

Research shows that effective teachers organize and plan their instruction. With

content and performance standards and learning competencies firmly articulated

in the K to 12 curriculums, it is easier for teachers to carry on both short-term and

long term instructional planning. The Scope and the Policy also that he had

discussed was the DepEd provides the guidelines in the preparation of daily

lessons through DLP and DLL, by teachers from K to 12, this was also developed

in collaboration with teachers and school beads to ensure those affected by the

policy would be consulted.

The Definition of Terms also he presented for the purpose of the Order.

Instruction refers to the methods and processes used to direct learning.

Instructional Planning is the process of systematically planning, developing,

evaluating and managing the instructional process by using principles of teaching

and learning.

He also gives definitions about the different Lesson Plan. Daily Lesson

Log (DLL) is a template teacher use to log parts of their daily lessons. Detailed
Lesson Plan (DLP) is a teacher’s roadmap” for a lesson. It contains a detailed

description of the steps a teacher will take to teach a particular topic.

The Policy Statement

DepEd hereby issues these guidelines on daily lesson preparation

to institutionalize instructional planning as a critical part of the teaching and

learning process. Daily lesson preparation is part of the teacher’s core function

as a facilitator of learning inside the classroom as affirmed through DepEd’s

Results based Performance Management System (RPMS).

The instructional processes are Planning Instruction, Delivery of

Instruction and Assessment of Learning.

Sir Duran discussed about the art of questioning, it is necessary that you ask

question with a correct manner and can easily understand by your students.

There are some questions that it needs time to think about the answer.

Based on Sir Duran discussion

Before -- During -- After

There are three opportunities to pose pedagogical questions to students:

they receive a class, during the class, and reflective questions after the

class. Questions before a class provide a framework that will orient the

student in advance to what is important in the assignment. Questions

during class give the teacher an indication of how well students

understand; and classroom questions also give students the opportunity to

ask the teacher clarifying questions. Reflective questions that require no

immediate answers, but that are designed to get students thinking more

deeply about a topic, and even to question their own assumptions, can be

asked at the end of a class. Each opportunity is important to more quickly

facilitate the student's understanding of a subject.

Arc of Questioning

Artistry implies a degree of skill and creativity. Simply asking prepared

questions may be effective, but it does not creatively and respectfully

engage the student in her own learning process. Dennis Palmer Wolf, in

his essay "The Art of Questioning," discusses skillful improvisation by

teachers in the classroom as creating an "arc of questioning." During an

arc of questioning, each student response gives rise to another question

from the teacher that demands a deeper interpretation of the topic. This

requires close attention to student responses, from which follow-on

questions are developed, and it directly and respectfully involves students

in the learning process.

Therefore, questions must be constructed properly by the teacher to

impart proper learning of the learners. It may affect the process of learning

if this may lack of the teacher’s strategies.

VII. INTERSHIP PROPER

Off Campus Internship

I was assigned to have my off campus internship at Asuncion National

High School. I was asked to teach grade 10 for my major subject. My co-

operating Teacher is my advisory class adviser; sometimes she let me handle

the Filipino subject if she is full of activity. All in all, I was handling seven

sections and I have to teach them every Monday until Friday.

I was then glad to meet my co-operating teachers and as well as my

students. My cooperating teacher was approachable and indeed willing to help

me become an effective teacher in the near future. On the other side of the coin,

I felt so stressed with my students because of the different attitudes they

possessed. They were very naughty and noisy particularly the boys. But

regardless of their differences, I noticed that they developed as my friends after

class. Several of them call me “ate”, they run for me if they had a hard time or

problematic and I also become their guidance, they are part of my life. We are

now in the 21st Century and we need to accept that everything alters even the

kind of learners we will encounter in this generation.

I was grateful about what I have experienced in ANHS because I was able

to meet new friends, had a chance to get involved with those remarkable and

treasured moments with the learners and their parents. The hospitable manner

and the extensive knowledge of my CT and that I have indeed learned a lot from

her.
Above all, I acknowledge God for what He did to my life as a student

teacher of ANHS.

VIII. CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED

During my internship in ANHS I experienced a lot of challenges. One of

these is when how I should deal my co-operating teacher that she will satisfied

by my toil, how should I end up the day with positive feedback, how should I do

my demonstration in order for the learners absorb in a simple way and how I will

improved my lesson plan in every comments, suggestions and amendment she

wrote on my LP.

The challenges that I had encountered is when I entered the school

everyday, how will I make my class become efficient not just one time but every

day the moment I enter the classroom. It is a challenged for me on how to be

resourceful on conveying my lesson smoothly and effectively. I always put in

mind that everyday is a battle. Teaching those grade 10 learners was a pressure,

I had a lot of “what if’s”, what if they don’t believed in me because I’m just a

student-teacher? Particularly they are in their 4th year they are now well-

informed. It truly challenged me to do my duties well for them.

Another experience is together with my co-student teacher, we

encountered someone who has bad intention to us, we don’t know if it is different

person or not, but it worries us because it left a bad memory to one of our co-

teacher student and every time there has a sound it gives us goose bumps and
we felt we are in danger. Staying at ANHS, I experienced the floods and 4 times

black out in a day. It is a challenge for us because the river is just few meters

away from us.

It is also challenge for me to look fresh despite of all the tension because I

had only 2-3 hours of sleep every weekday making lesson and IM’s. We all know

that physical look is the basis to have good atmosphere in the class, if the

learners look at you they will also feel what they see on you. They can easily

adapt to the environment and it always starts from us. We must be eager every

time we entered a classroom because an energetic atmosphere of the classroom

will help the learners involved in the lesson.

Accept present moment reality. Accept the way things are and the way

people are. You have to understand that not everything is going to be what you

want it to be. If you cannot accept reality you will feel very frustrated with your

life. Once you can accept reality (including the challenges that you faced with),

you will be able to be more calm and think more clearly about how to get a step

further towards your goals every day.

IX. OVER-ALL PRACTICE TEACHING LEARNING EXPERIENCE

On my OJT (On the Job Training) I learned that we must be creative on

our lesson planning, we must consider the diversity of our learners and think

effective ways for them to engage in the topic. As a student-teacher, I realized

that student plays a very important role for me to become a good teacher, they

taught me first on how to be a good listener and communicator, be considerate,

be confidence while teaching, and taught me to be prepared always.

Through my experiences, it helped me to mold my personalities, able to

see what area I should improved with and it taught me important lessons in life.

Students teach me how to be patience, creative and be strategic student teacher.

My Parent Teacher imparted me how to plan my lesson well, how to make it

interesting and gave comments in every demonstration or work I have done.

Something that I have learned throughout student teaching is the

importance of connections, and by connections I mean with the kids. It is

significant to establish and maintain the role as a teacher in their eyes, it is so

important to attach with them and be their friend to some extent.

Doing this and reaching out to them individually has been such a

wonderful experience. I have learned about the students’ likes and dislikes, what

they are nervous about, how they work and what issues they are dealing with. I

have loved being able to make them smile by asking about an event they

mentioned they have over the weekend or by simply greeting them in the

morning and asking how they are doing.

X. REFLECTIONS AND INSIGHTS (Substantive Narrative of Personal
Realizations)

I realized that teaching is not a stress-free job. It requires full dedication,

love and compassion on the profession and to the learners. Dedicated in a sense

that we, teachers should have the ability to inspire students through approaches,

actions, and even through the lessons and activities that students were engaged.

Learners will not trust you if you have hesitation on your lessons, so we must be

good, true and right on what we teach.

As a student-teacher, I realized that student plays a very important role

for me to become a good teacher, they taught me first on how to be a good

listener and communicator, be considerate, be confidence while teaching, and

taught me to be prepared always. I will never forget all the experiences and

memories we shared with my students, they become my friends and some of

them become my best friends outside the school.

I realized that what I learned in this teaching practice will make an impact

in the real field. It’s just the beginning to face the hardship of being a future

teacher. This entire journey taught me to display the different learners that I will

encounter. Taught me how to accept them wholeheartedly and realize that I need

to value each one of them. I understood that a teacher will be considered as an

effective teacher if she/he is capable to change the life of his/her learners, and

they will be able to apply and value what they’ve learned from you.
Whenever problems may come along your way, do not be terrified

to face them and do not ever hesitate to make an action out of it. Remember that

in every problem there is always a possible solution. You just have to remember

also that God is constantly there in our side to guide us, protect us, and help us

in times of needs. Just look up above but make sure to integrate your prayers

with action to make it possible.

XI. PROFESSIONAL READINGS

Title of the Article: Three conceptions of teacher learning

Author: Cochrane-Smith, M. & Lytle, S. (1999). Relationships of knowledge and

practice: Teacher learning in communities. Review of Research in Education,

(24), 249-305.

Summary:

Cochrane-Smith and Lytle describe the and critically reflect on three categories

of what it means to know as a teacher.

Teacher learning, conception 1: Knowledge for practice

One of the most prevalent conceptions of teacher learning, this first conception

hinges on the idea that knowing more (for example, more subject matter, more

educational theory, more pedagogy, more instructional strategies) leads more or

less directly to more effective practice.

Implicit in the knowledge-for-practice conception is the assumption that teachers

play a central role in educational change by virtue of their state-of-the-art

knowledge through teacher preparation and continuing professional

development.

Teacher learning, conception 2: Knowledge in practice

It emphasized for teacher knowledge on knowledge in action. What very

competent teachers know is expressed in the artistry of practice, in teachers’

reflections on practice, in teachers’ practical inquiries, and/or in teachers’

narrative accounts of practice.

Teacher learning, conception 3: Knowledge of practice

From this perspective, both knowledge generation and knowledge use are

regarded as inherently problematic.

In this third conception, knowledge-of-practice turns on the assumption that the

knowledge teachers need to teach well emanates from systematic inquiries about

teaching, learning and learners, subject matter and curriculum, and schools and

schooling. Here both knowers and knowledge are also connected to larger

political and social agendas.

Reflections:

In these three conceptions of teacher learning of Cochrane-Smith and Lytle, it

explains the different conceptions of teacher learning. Through this, it helps

teachers to evaluate their self if they have really direction on their teaching and if

they are effective teacher to the learners.

Title of the Article: Some Benefits of Reading Aloud

Author: ERIC Clearinghouse on Rural Education and Small Schools

Summary: Reading aloud provides opportunities for students to view persons

not in their immediate environment, for example the elderly, wise persons, or

people from different ethnic backgrounds or social status. And through books,

children can travel to faraway lands and learn about life in the jungle or on a

cattle ranch.

In reading books, children learn what is or appropriate behavior for their culture

or that of others. Depending on the story, they could learn about the need to

respect the elderly, how to ask for forgiveness, or how to show you're sorry.

Reflections

Reading aloud to children in any language prepares them to learn to read

English. They learn how to use their imagination, to view situations from various

perspectives, and to know that events can be seen from different viewpoints.

It helps learner to be more focus and interested while reading aloud because it

arouse their interest, more importantly they stay engaged instead of they read all

by their self, it can develop boredom to the learners. During their reading they

can also tiredness in reading.

Title of the Article: Mobile phones in the classroom – what does the research

say?

Author: Dominique Russell

Summary:

Most respondents in this study say they use their device for Google and

calendars during the school day. As for learning at home, most students also

rely on their device.

Many pupils feel that they are deriving educational benefit from the use of their

devices,’ the report says. ‘They are using many of the features of their devices

and often finding creative ways to employ these features in their schoolwork,

both at home and at school.’

Although participants in this study say using a mobile device in the classroom

involved the need for exploration and a lot of personal research, the authors

suggest that with the growing trend of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD).

Overall, this study proposes that mobile devices are a suitable learning tool for

the classroom.

Reflection:

In this study, both positive and negative we can get in using mobile phone in

the classroom. It also show that the learners gained more advantages in using

this technology in his/her study that it can aid to learning. Moreover the
negative of this is that learners depend on the technology. They don’t know how

to find text in the books and they don’t usually go to the library. However, as it

makes our work easier it also slowly making us independent and lazy person.

We should know how to limit and balance things, especially now that even

young learners and even in taking care of our toddler we use this to make them

behave by showing cartoons and nursery rhymes.

Since then, the technology change our ways of living, it only depend on the

people how they use it.

Title of the Article: Effective Teaching Methods in Higher Education:

Requirements and Barriers.

Author: Shirani Bidabadi N, Nasr Isfahani A, Rouhollahi A, Khalili R.

Summary:

According to the results of this study, the best teaching approach is the mixed

method (student-centered together with teacher-centered) plus educational

planning and previous readiness. But whenever the teachers can teach using this

method confront with some barriers and requirements; some of these

requirements are prerequisite in professors' behavior and some of these are

prerequisite in professors' outlook. Also, there are some major barriers, some of

which are associated with the professors' operation and others are related to

laws and regulations. Implications of these findings for teachers' preparation in

education are discussed.

Reflections:

A good teaching method helps the students to question their preconceptions, and

motivates them to learn, by putting them in a situation in which they come to see

themselves as the authors of answers, as the agents of responsibility for change.

But training through this method has some barriers and requirements. To have

an effective teaching; the faculty members of the universities should be awarded

of these barriers and requirements as a way to improve teaching quality.

Title of the Article: Teacher-Student Interactions: The Key to Quality

Classrooms

Author: University of Virginia Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and

Learning

Summary:

The Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) describes ten dimensions

of teaching that are linked to student achievement and social development. Each

dimension falls into one of three board categories: emotional support, classroom

organization, and instructional support.

Emotional support refers to the ways teachers help children develop warm,

supportive relationships, experience enjoyment and excitement about learning,

feel comfortable in the classroom, and experience appropriate levels of

autonomy or independence. This includes: Positive climate, Negative climate,

Teacher sensitivity and Regard for student perspectives.

Classroom organization refers to the ways teachers help children develop skills

to regulate their own behavior, get the most learning out of each school day, and

maintain interest in learning activities. This includes: Behavior management,

Productivity and Instructional learning formats.

Instructional support- refers to the ways in which teachers effectively support

students' cognitive development and language growth. This includes: Concept

development, Quality of feedback and Language modeling.

Reflections:

These three Classroom Assessment Scoring System help teachers to develop

positive interaction to the learners. It concentrates on how teacher interact or

build relationship with the learners. The Emotional support focus on the attitude

of a teacher and how to build trust relationship and creating experiences with the

learner. Classroom organization focuses on how to handle learners, what

strategy she would use and format in Instructional teaching. Instructional support

refers to how teachers use instructional discussions and activities and the way

how she responded to the learners.
