INTERVIEWS:

HOW TO PREPARE
Attire: _
 Regardless of the job you are applying for (even if it’s to be a gym clerk), you should always
dress professionally and clean
 Professional:
Don’t Do
Wear jeans or shorts, even if you think they look nice Do wear dress pants, slacks or a dress skirt
Wear sneakers, sandals, platforms Wear closed-toe shoes, dress shoes, flats etc.
Wear sunglasses or a hat Wear cleaned prescription glasses
Wear dress skirts and dresses that fit close to the knew when
you sit
Take wrinkled clothes Iron your clothes before
Show midriffs or wear sleeveless clothing (without a light Wear sleeved or long sleeve shirts
sweater/cardigan on top)
Wear strong cologne Try to wear no cologne/perfume at all, or something very
subtle
Brush your hair, keep it out of your face, shower and brush
your teeth
Wear bright nail polish Clean your nails and if you want, wear a neutral nail polish

 Know who you are interviewing for, but regardless present yourself professionally (unless
otherwise SPECIFICALLY stated)
 Employers appreciate and respect the effort even if that is not how you will dress for the actual
job
o It speaks of your character and that you will take the job seriously
 ***At the interview you can ask what the everyday attire will be for the job so that you can adjust
your wardrobe abidingly as you move forward (when you hopefully get the job!)***

Documents: _
 You should always carry at least two copies of your resume when going into an interview
o If the interviewer does not need one, you have a copy to reference if anything comes up
from there
 Bring a small notebook (plain, not flashy nor with a cartoon character/flower design) or sheet of
paper for your notes
o You can have written any questions you may have for the employer so that you do not
forget to ask them at the end (since they usually ask if you have any question)
 Any other document the employer requests
Tips: _
 Arrive/check in 8-10 minutes before
 Silence or turn off your phone
 Make constant eye contact
 Know what your nervous ticks are and try to avoid them
 Use body language in a positive way (including facial expressions)
 Accept the water if offered
 Be tentative and listen closely
 Answer questions with the most relevant-to-the-job response you can
 Prepare a couple of questions to ask the interviewers, even if they are basic (to ask at the end if
asked if you want to ask questions)
 Try to answer questions with specific examples that show how you did something or handled a
situation

 What is professionalism in the workplace?
 Tell me about yourself.
 What are your strengths and what is your biggest weakness?
 From all of your experiences, what would you consider to be your proudest moment?

 What are your future goals? (Where do you see yourself in # years)?
 Tell me about a time you _______________, and how did you handle/overcome it?
o Had to deal with a rude customer
o Were the only one that showed up to work
o You were blindsided by an event/happening
 ***but do your research on common interview questions that will be relevant to the field of work
that you are hoping to enter
