Strengths:
You provide a fast pace, and the kids seem to keep up well. This lesson seemed to be a
re-teaching/review activity for your students, and from my perspective, they are on the right track. Your
explanations are clear, and providing tricks and strategies is very helpful to a diverse group of students.
There is a buzz in the air: excitement for Math, as well as a genuine rapport with your students. Your
students seem to enjoy being in your class, and they are mostly eager to participate. I like how you
gave each student their own problem to do on the white board, but had the entire class work on it as
well. Wonderful that your students all have their own SMART goals!
Recommendations:
● Consider keeping a whiteboard, eraser, and marker under each desk for a quick transition.
● Consider turn and talk or turn and ask to allow for all students to participate and generate
questions. Thumbs up/ thumbs down or stand up/sit down for quick formative assessment.
Asking "Are we good? Do we get it?" does not usually provide accurate assessment.
● Can students come up and do some problems on the Smartboard? I think a lot of your students
would be very eager to do that. In your pre-conference notes you wrote that it is important for
students to not get off task, and I wonder if they went to the board if it would do just that. Or
maybe to integrate more physical movement into the period, you could add the Move-It Chrome
extension. We can discuss that when we meet.
Thank you for welcoming me into your class; your students are lucky to have you!
