Coming from a different cultural background,

I chose the MIS at the University of
Melbourne as the course has an excellent
name in ICT, class sizes are small, and
given most classes are taught after business
hours, this fits in very well with work.
How are you finding it?
I am finding the course very interesting as
it is highly relevant to my current work. I am
learning a lot from the classes, and guest
lecturers have given very useful insight
into different areas of the industry. The
group activities and team learning have
been a highlight. They have improved my
communication skills, and ability to work in
team situations.

With my previous roles in business
development and operations management,
I was looking to build my career in business

Class sizes are deliberately kept small and
are highly interactive. Many classes involve
industry leaders as guest lecturers and our
teaching is practical and focused on the
needs of working professionals.

Study commitment
Many classes take place between 5.30
and 8.30pm Monday to Thursday. Some
classes are offered on weekends, or semi–
intensively for blocks of 2 or 3 days over the
semester.
A full–time student normally studies four
subjects per semester spending three hours
per week per subject in formal classes and a
further six hours per subject in private study
or group work.
A part–time student should expect to
spend three hours a week per subject in
class, about thirty–six hours of class time
in total–this is about six hours per week for
the standard part–time load of two subjects.

Master of Information Systems (MIS)
This course is the University of Melbourne’s
premier degree for practitioners and
consultants in digital business: IT managers
who support, manage and change
business processes through information
and communications technology (ICT) and
information systems.
The MIS is both a mid–career and start–of–
career professional degree for graduates of
any undergraduate degree.

Class experience
Class sizes are deliberately kept small and
are highly interactive. Many classes involve
industry leaders as guest lecturers and our
teaching is practical and focused on the
needs of working professionals.

Average working experience: 4.6 years
Male: 60% Full–time: 70%

Study commitment
Many classes take place between 5.30
and 8.30pm Monday to Thursday. Some
classes are offered on weekends, or semi–
intensively for blocks of 2 or 3 days over the
semester.
A full–time student normally studies four
subjects per semester spending three hours
per week per subject in formal classes and a
further six hours per subject in private study
or group work.
A part–time student should expect to
spend three hours a week per subject in
class, about thirty–six hours of class time
in total–this is about six hours per week for
the standard part–time load of two subjects.
In addition six hours a week per subject is
normally spent in private study or group
work.

available for all Australian citizens, New
Zealand citizens and the holders of an
