1 Version
ImageJ is a public domain Java image-processing program inspired by NIH Image of
the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). Version 1.37v of ImageJ was used for
this documentation.

2 Defect Map
2.1 General information
One defect map image each in which all defective pixels are marked is required for
Detector MODE #1 (Default) and MODE #2 (Binning).

If no Defect Map images are available, or automatic image generation does not
function, a Defect Map image of this sort can be created with ImageJ using the
following description.

All defective pixels have the value 65535. All pixels that are OK have the value 0.

2.2 Creating the image

• In the <File> menu, click <New> and then <Image...>.
¾ The <New Image...> window is displayed.

• In the <New Image...> window, enter the following values for the MODE desired:

MODE #1 (Default) MODE #2 (Binning)

Name: DefectMap4096x4126 Name: DefectMap2048x2063

• Click <OK>.
¾ The image is displayed in a new window.
All pixels have the value 0.

2.3 Drawing defects

Assume the image in MODE # 1 has a column error that begins at point x1=100 and
y1=100, and ends at point x2=100 and y2=4117. To draw this line, the corresponding
pixels first have to be marked.

• In the <Edit> menu, click <Selection> and then <Specify...>.

¾ The <Specify> window is displayed.

• In the <Specify> window, enter the following values to mark the column defect
previously described:

<Width> is the width of the line and <Height> is the length

of the line. The length of the line can be calculated with y2 –
y1 + 1.
<X Coordinate> and <Y Coordinate> are position values for
the starting point (x1/x2).

• Click <OK>.
¾ The line is marked in yellow.
