JOB ASSIGNED:
Student’s work profile (role and responsibilities) :
I worked there with ADITYA BIRLA MONEY LTD. with a profile of sales trainee. This profile offers
me to understand the need of customer and provide them the best deal possible with maximization of the
profit, both for the company as well as for the customer.

The most important aspect for the role of trainee is trust. So far fulfilment of the targets one needs to:

 Capitalize on the old and loyal clientage which can be building slowly by advising people in the
best possible way.

 Generating new leads through various activities.

Generation of leads:
Since I was new in the field so I had to start from scratch and generate new leads to sustain in the market.

Cold calling is one of the trusted ways of getting to the customers without meeting them. Although the
rate of conversion remained very less, for cold calling the quality and accent remains a very important
criterion. This activity gives me mixed result. I often got success and generated many leads through it but
it also landed me in awkward position where the customer were in different mood and made us hear
words for which a marketer should be always prepared to hear. Corporate calls always remained more
difficult to crack with respect to retail sector.

The corporate were the most difficult and most temping to get the business from. It took me one one day
to crack Hi-tech Gears. At ADITYA BIRLA MONEY LTD. after getting the product knowledge in the
first week at the branch I was also allotted distributor to work with. In the initial phase I was accompanied
by more experienced staff. After I became known to the market and procedure I started attending calls
alone only.

After the third week my performance also improved and I was able to get close to the targets, though it
looked difficult to achieve in the beginning. To get awareness of the every product I attended diversified
calls. This helped me to implement cross selling to get better results.

Description of live experience:

I was supposed to use the database provided by the company to make cold calls or by directly meeting
people to get new leads.

While making cold calls, we need to have:

 Good Communication Skills (Voice quality is clear and articulate)

 Persistent and able to bounce back from rejection
 Good organizational skills.
 Ability to project a telephone personality (Enthusiasm, friendliness)
 Flexibility: can adapt to different types of clients and new situations.

3.4 PRODUCTS OFFERED BY ADITYA BIRLA MONEY

LTD.

1. EQUITY

The key to higher returns

 The total capital worth of any company is divided into equal units of small
denominations. Each denomination is called a share, and holders of these shares
have voting rights within the company. The ownership interest of these
shareholders is commonly referred to as equity.
 Many still view equity investments as a somewhat higher risk avenue. However, if
closely observed it has still been considered as one of the best sources of getting
maximum returns.
 The basic premise of equity investments lies in timing the market i.e. being
constantly in touch with the market. Thus, if you are planning to give maximum

18 | P a g e
importance to market timing and have the ability to hedge risk by making informed
decisions, then equity market is the answer for you.

Why Invest in Equity?

 Earn high returns
 Best hedge against inflation
 Creates wealth over long term
 Diversifies portfolio
You can trade in equity through a broker and through several convenient options
like a branch, call and trade or even an online broking account.

2. COMMODITY

Enrich your portfolio with commodities

 Commodities are raw products that can be bought, sold, and traded.
 It can be an agricultural commodity like wheat, soybeans, rapeseed, cotton, etc or
precious metals like gold, silver and so on.
 Commodities are traded on Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) and National
Commodity Derivative Exchange (NCDEX).
 Despite the fact that the prices of commodities are unpredictable, they are much
preferred by the investors who want to earn high returns from the price fluctuations.
Of course there are also commodities like Gold, which is a reliable and safe
investment.
 Hence, Commodities are increasingly becoming one of the most popular areas of
investment for diversifying portfolios and improving overall rate of returns. If you
are looking towards making a balanced portfolio, commodities could be your
vehicle to earn desired returns.

Why Invest in Commodity?

 Earns high returns
 Diversifies portfolio
 Commodities like gold is safe for long term investment
 Improves overall investment returns
3. DERIVATIVES

19 | P a g e
What are Derivatives?
 A derivative is a financial instrument - or more simply, an agreement between two
people or two parties - that has a value determined by the price of something else
(called the underlying).
 It is a financial contract with a value linked to the expected future price movements
of the asset it is linked to - such as a share or a currency. There are many kinds of
derivatives, with the most notable being swaps, futures, and options.

Forms of Derivatives:

a. FUTURES
 In futures trading, you take buy/sell positions in index or stock(s) contracts having
a longer contract period of up to 3 months.
 Trading in FUTURES is simple! If, during the course of the contract life, the price
moves in your favour (i.e. rises in case you have a buy position or falls in case you
have a sell position), you make a profit.
 Presently only selected stocks, which meet the criteria on liquidity and volume,
have been enabled for futures trading.

b. OPTIONS
 An option is a contract, which gives the buyer the right to buy or sell shares at a
specific price, on or before a specific date.
 For this, the buyer has to pay to the seller some money, which is called premium.
 There is no obligation on the buyer to complete the transaction if the price is not
favourable to him.
 To take the buy/sell position on index/stock options, you have to place certain % of
order value as margin. With options trading, you can leverage on your trading limit
by taking buy/sell positions much more than what you could have taken in cash
segment.

4. IPO
 An initial public offering (IPO) is the financial mechanism by which a private
company offers stock to the general public for the first time and officially becomes
a publicly traded company.

20 | P a g e
 IPOs are exciting investment opportunities, and are often exclusive events; the
majority of the stock usually goes to institutions and well-connected individual
investors.
 Historically, initial public offerings have performed extremely well in the after
market (when the new stock trades freely on the stock market for the first time), and
therefore are much sought-after investment opportunities.

Why invest in IPO:

 An IPO has the potential to make you a good return in a short period of time. It is
standard practice for IPOs to be priced below “fair market value”, so the stock rises
in value immediately upon issue, clearing a healthy profit for initial shareholders.

5. CURRENCY

TRADING IN CURRENCY DERIVATIVES

 The increased volatility in Foreign exchange rates had made a risk management
tool in currency the need of the hour. To mitigate the currency risk and with the
intention to provide a liquid and transparent market, SEBI and RBI have allowed
screen based trading in currency futures for the first time in India in August 2008.

 The leading domestic Currency exchanges are National Stock Exchange (NSE),
MCX Stock Exchange (MCX-SX) and United Stock Exchange (USE). Volumes in
Currency Exchanges have consistently increased over the past two years. The
combined daily average volume has increased from Rs.16,000 crs in Aug 2008 (in
NSE) to 43,000 crs (NSE, MCXSX and USE ) in October 2010, showing a 3 fold
increase.
Currency Futures
In simple, currency futures are

 Standard contracts of a specified quantity

 To exchange one currency for another

 At a specified date in the future called settlement date

 At a price that is fixed on the purchase date.

21 | P a g e
6. MUTUAL FUNDS
 A Mutual Fund is a trust that pools together the savings of a number of investors
who share a common financial goal. The fund manager invests this pool of money
in securities, ranging from shares, debentures to money market instruments or in a
mixture of equity and debt, depending upon the objective of the scheme.

 Thus a Mutual Fund is the most suitable investment for the common man as it
offers an opportunity to invest in a diversified, professionally managed basket of
securities at a relatively low cost.

Why Invest in Mutual Funds?

 Professional Management
Fund managers are professionals who track the market on an ongoing basis. With
their mix of professional qualification and market knowledge, they are better
placed than the average investor to understand the markets.

 Diversification and Lowered Risks

Since a mutual fund is a trust that pools the savings of a number of investors
sharing a common financial goal, the associated risks are greatly reduced. This is
also because a fund will invest your money in different types of instruments like
shares and bonds. Hence, loss in one sphere will not greatly affect your overall
investment status.

 Low Costs
When compared to direct investments in the capital market, mutual funds cost less.
This is due to savings in brokerage costs, Demat costs, depository costs, etc.

 Liquidity
Investments in mutual funds are quite liquid and hence can be redeemed at the Net
Assets Value (NAV)–related price on any working day.

 Transparency
All that you invest in a scheme is made known to you and you are periodically
informed about all the updates and changes taking place

 Flexibility
Mutual funds offer flexibility in their options and schemes to match individual
needs. Also, with features like regular withdrawal plans and systematic investment
plans, you can withdraw or invest funds according to your needs and convenience.

 Choice of Schemes

22 | P a g e
Mutual funds offer a vast variety of well-designed schemes and options that you
can choose from depending on your risk appetite.

 Tax Benefits
In India, these funds become even more attractive because of the tax advantage,
indexation benefits, long term capital gains tax, tax free dividends and much more.

insured person in case he dies during his active income earning period or becomes
disabled on account of an accident causing reduction or complete loss in his
earnings. Thus, buying an insurance policy is a wise move for every individual.

23 | P a g e
 Insurance can also be a form of savings in the long run if you choose the option of
regular contribution in the policy. One can tie the entire plan with a pension plan or

facets of a life insurance policy; like there are products that offer protection
coupled with savings.

and capital growth. The alternate route for investments from the traditional asset

 All investments which are not of the type of equities, bonds and stocks are
categorized under this asset class.
 Alternative investments are favoured mainly because their returns have a low
correlation with those of standard asset classes The sustained risk adjusted returns
of alternative investments, have made them increasingly important and provide a
well balanced and diversification to the portfolio.

Why choose Alternative Investments?

From the survey conducted by the researcher it is clear that 36% of the investors trade in Intraday, 20%
trade in Delivery, 11% trade in Future & Option and 33% investors trade in IPO. These trading habits can
be affected by their age group and monthly income. Young traders take risk and try to gain higher returns.
And experienced traders take minimum risk and get good returns. A investor’s monthly income is high
can take more risk then any other. So this is the reason that only rich traders trade in Future and Option.
Investor related to govt. jobs likes to trade in IPO’s because of safety and good return.

51 | P a g e
CHAPTER 6
DIFFICULTIES FACED AND MAJOR LIMITATION

52 | P a g e
DIFFICULTIES FACED DURING THE TRAINING PERIOD

 While telecalling sometimes the clients do not give positive response, may be because they are
really busy or may be not interested in the demat accounts and mutual funds.
 While cold calling when we met the owners of big shops. They said that if they had spare money
they will invest it in their shops and not in the share market. They don`t want to take risk.
 Aditya Birla Money takes no charges for opening Demat accounts but there is an initial deposit of
Rs.50,000/-. It is just a margin money which has to be kept with Aditya Birla Money till the
account opens. So, the customer want that margin amount should be less.
 Some of the clients want to open Demat free without any margin money, which should not be
come in company rule & regulation.
 Many of the clients want that they should be charge less brokerage by 1 paisa per crore but the
company can’t give such type of facility.

LIMITATIONS:
 Due to bad market conditions people are becoming more and more pessimistic about investing in the
share market. After the Reliance IPO, SENSEX fell tremendously from 21000 to 15000.
 In this crash many people lost their money amounting from 2 Lakhs to 4-5 crore or even more. So
when we approach them they tell us how much they used to trade in shares and how much money
they have lost in the share market. They even tell us that we are doing our training (SIP) at very
wrong time.
 There are some negative rumours in the market about Aditya Birla Money ltd. some people have
very bad experience with Aditya Birla Money in terms of services and charges. This may not be the
fault of the company but of some of the marketing executives who don`t disclose all the details about
charges and products and once the demat account has been opened they don`t pay any attention to
their old clients and thus fail to give proper services to the clients.
 Aditya Birla Money takes no charges for opening Demat accounts but there is an initial deposit of
Rs.50,000/-. It is just a margin money which has to be kept with Aditya Birla Money till the account
opens.
 As soon as the account opens this money can be kept as it is in the demat account or it can be
completely used for buying shares or it can be partially used and the rest of the amount can be
withdrawn. But clients fail to understand this.
 They think that these are the charges they start suspecting it. So it’s very difficult to convince them
to deposit that much amount and open a demat account.

 Lack of awareness of capital market:

Since the area is not known before it takes lot of time in convincing people to start investing in shares
primarily in IPO’s.

 Some people are comfortable with traditional system:

53 | P a g e
As people are doing trading from their respective brokers, they are quite comfortable to trade via physical
form of paper.

 Lack of Techno Savvy people and poor internet penetration:

Since most of the people are quite experienced and also they are not techno savvy. Also Internet
penetration is poor in India.

 Some respondents are unwilling to talk:

Some respondents either do not have time or willing does not respond, as they are quite annoyed with the
phone call.

 Inaccurate Leads:
Sometimes leads are provided which had error in it, which varies from only 5-digit phone number to
wrong phone number

 Misleading concepts:
Some people think that as all the shares are in electronic form and they don’t have any physical proof.
Sometimes this leads to a great misconception of the entire process.

54 | P a g e
CHAPTER 7
CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

55 | P a g e
CONCLUSION:
On the basis of the study it is found that Aditya Birla Money Ltd is better services provider than the other
stockbrokers because of their timely research and personalized advice on what stocks to buy and sell.
Aditya Birla Money Ltd. provides the facility of Trade tiger as well as relationship manager facility for
encouragement and protect the interest of the investors. It also provides the information through the
internet and mobile alerts that what IPO’s are coming in the market and it also provides its research on the
future prospect of the IPO.

Study also concludes that people are not much aware of Equity market and while it’s going to be biggest
market in India.

 The company should also organize seminars and similar activities to enhance the
knowledge of prospective and existing customers, so that they feel more comfortable
while investing in the stock market.

 Things have changed for the better with the Aditya Birla Money Ltd. going on-line
coupled with endeavour to stream line the whole trading system, things have changed
dramatically over the last 3 to 4 years. New and advanced technologies have breached
geographical and cultural barriers, and have brought the countrywide market to
doorstep. BROKER’S have suddenly been thrown to intense competition from their
counter parts across the country.

 In the present scenario and to compete the BROKER’S would require sound
infrastructure and trading as per international standards. The concepts of business
have changed and today this has become service to client or to provide the best
possible service to client or to engage into new business from the regional center to
the metro centres and to impart liquidity introduction of on-line trading is necessary.

 The introduction of on-line trading would influence in the investors resulting in an

increase in the business of the exchange. It has helped the brokers handling a vast
amount of transactions and this can be an efficient trading, delivering, settlement
system with adequate protection to investors. The trading of Aditya Birla Money Ltd.
of the first day was Rs. 1.8 crores.

 Due to invention of online trading there has been greater benefit to the investors as
they could sell / buy shares as and when required and that to with online trading, it
will inspire confidence in investors resulting in increase business of the exchange.

 The BROKER’S has a greater scope than compared to the earlier times because of
invention of online trading.

 The concept of business has changed today this is a service oriental industry hence the
survival would require them to provide the best possible service to the client

56 | P a g e
 The longer trading time had helped the investors as well as the broker to take much
interest in the trading of the securities as they had extra time to take in the security
market.

 The existing system can be further improved by introduction of stop loss facility that
will help to reduce investor’s losses

 Also there is need for an exchange to setup standing committee into breakdown of
online trading.
The Indian stock market witnesses both the good as well as the bad time. Most of the
people keep them away from bad times that lead to low liquidity in the markets. But for
the rest who want to remain in the markets without losing much of their capital and take
leverage of the market movements in both north and south directions, Derivatives
Instruments are the tools to be with. By studying and applying various Derivative
Instruments like Futures, Forwards and Option strategies, I came to a conclusion that
these instruments are the best ones to turn the bad time into a good one i.e. to earn profits
in any market direction.

SUGGESTIONS:

MORE BRANCHES:

Need to open more branches to be a topper in market because it has a low distribution
network.
LESS TIME:

They should try to make some arrangements to reduce account opening time by verifying
documents at branch it selves.
LINK-BANK A/Cs:
Linked as many accounts as client wants to its online account.
NEW BANKS IN THE KITTY:
Need to tie up with major banks like Allahabad Bank, Bank of Baroda etc.
CUSTOMER SATISFACTION:

The company should focus on the customer satisfaction not on just taking money from
their pocket.
CONTROLLED BRANCHES:
The company would have to make some arrangements to control the branches and make
standardized procedures for all of them for their better control and performance appraisal.

57 | P a g e
 Commitment should be equalized for every person.
 Provide the facility of free demonstrations for all.
 Improvement in the opening of De-mat & contract notice procedure is required.
 There should be a limited number of clients under the relationship manger. So that he
can handle new as well as old customer properly.
 Some promotional activities are required for the awareness of the customer.
 People at young age should be encouraged to invest in stock market.
 Seminars should be held for providing information to prospective and present
customers.
 I suggest the exchange authorities to take steps to educate Investors about their rights
and duties. I suggest to the exchange authorities to increase the investors’
confidences.
 I suggest the exchange authorities to be vigilant to curb wide fluctuations of prices.
 The speculative pressures are responsible for the wide changes in the price, not
attracting the genuine investors to the greater extent towards the market.
 Genuine investors are not at all interested in the speculative gain as their investment is
based on the future profits, therefore the authorities of the exchange should be more
vigilant in imposing to curb the speculative of securities.
 Necessary steps should be taken by the exchange to deal with the situations arising
due to break down in online trading.
