The daily schedule as prescribed by Imam Al Ghazali in the Beginning of Guidance

If you cannot follow this regiment on a daily basis then strive to uphold what you can sustain and have
at least one day in your life in which you follow it so that you may be raised up with the people who
did those specific deeds.

 Waking up from sleep


o Let your first action/ words be dhikr
o Specific dua
o Get dressed
 Using the lavatory
 Wudu
o Specific Duas (if one cannot memorize all of them, learn their meaning and make the
dua mentally)
o Miswak
o Dua upon completion
 Fajr
o Pray 2 sunnah at home
o Go to the mosque to pray in congregation
o Dua
 On the way
 Upon entering
 Stay in the mosque still sunrise
o Read 2 rakahs of greeting the mosque (tahiyyatul musjid)
o Make intention for itikaaf (spiritual retreat)
o Read prophetic dua after 2 sunnah
o Repeat words of muadhin
o Follow imam in salah
o Read the supplications after salah
o Followed by the morning supplications
o 4 types of activities from salah of fajr till sunrise
 supplication
 remembrance and glorification
 recitation of the Quran
 reflection
o reflect upon your shortcomings and deficiency in worship
o which good deeds and worship you are going to do that day
o intend to have good will to all Muslims and to only be occupied with acts of obedience
o read then ten prayers recommended by Imam al Ghazali, which include tahleel,
tahmeed, tasbeeh, istighfaar, and salawat
 From sunrise to Midday
o Read salah tul Ishraaq, which is about 15 minutes after sunrise
o When the sun is higher pray salah tul Duha consists of consists of 2 to 8 rakahs in twos
o Spend this time in 1 of 4 ways
 Seeking useful knowledge
 Worship
 Good works in the service of others
o Earning a living and protecting your religion
 Preparation for other prayers (dhuhr)
o You make take a siesta before dhuhr
 Strengthens you to stay awake at night
o Follow the same adab in going to mosque, wudu
o 4 sunnah before fardh
o 2 sunnah after fardh
 Until asr
o Do 1 of the 4 mentioned activities
 If you choose worship then recite Quran
o 4 sunnah before asr
o do 1 of 4, as mentioned
 Before Maghrib
o When the sun turns red return to the mosque and devote youself to:
 Istighfaar
 Tasbeeh
o Recite before the sun sets
 Surah shams
 Surah lalyl
 Surah Falaq & nas
o Read maghrib and follow mentioned adab
 Between maghrib and esha
o Read 2 sunnah,
o Add to it 4 sunnah, lengthening them slightly
o Remain in the mosque till maghrib intending spiritual retreat
o Read 4 sunnah before esha
o Enliven the time between the adhan and fardh salah with dua as it is not rejected
o Follow the imam in fardh salah
o Read 2 sunah, reciting in it Surahs Sajdah & Mulk, or Surahs Yasin & Dukhan
o Then add to it 4 nafl rakahs
o Read the witr
 Reciting in it: surahs a’la, kafirun, Ikhlas, Falaq and Nas
 Or delay it if you intend qiyam al layl
 After esha
o Work on reviewing your knowledge or studying books before you sleep
o Don't waste your time in entertainment and amusement for actions are by the last of
them as they are the last ats before you go to sleep
 Sleep
o Face the qibla and lie on your right side
o Reflect on sleep as a similitude of death and know that your lord may take your soul by
night
 Have your will beneath your pillow
 Be in a state of repentance an seeking forgiveness with determination to never to
disobey Allah again
o Don't make your bed very comfortable
o Read dua before sleeping, ayatul kursi, last 2 verses of al baqarah, Surahs ikhlass, Falaq
& nas, and Mulk

The Proof of lslam, may God spread his benefit, said :'You should structure your time,arrange your
regular devotions, and assign to each function a set period of time during which it is given first
priority but which it does not overstep. For if you abandon yourself to neglect and purposelessness, as
the cattle do, and Just do anything that may occur to you at anytime it happens to occur to you, most of
your time will be wasted. Your time is your life, and your life is your capital; its the basis of your
transactions [with God], and the means to attain to everlasting felicity, in the proximity of God the
Exalted. Each of your breaths is a priceless (because irreplaceable jewel, and when it passes away it
never returns.’
