Research Proposal

In the past year border security has been one of the most controversial topics on

the news, and social media platforms. I became very interested in this topic many

months ago because it was all over the news, and by seeing both democratic and

republic sides of the dilemma. This year in school I am also taking American

Government and every now and then the topic of border security or more importantly

“the wall” will be brought up and I am shocked to see just how controversial the topic is,

and how much it divides the class. I for one am not the kind of person to argue about

politics because after seeing fellow classmates argue on this topic it really showed me

that both sides are going to think what they want on the topic and there is no breaking

through to them your point in the argument. When it came time to pick a subject for my

research paper I knew from experience that border security will be a great topic

because not only can I talk about border security now, I can put together both

democratic and republican sides of the story to try and iron out the differences between

the two and show why each side wants or doesn’t want better border security.

Because this topic is very controversial it is very hard for me to pick a side on

how I feel about it. What I can say is, that this topic has truly intrigued me to look more

into politics and really try to seek out what both party wants from this controversial
subject. Because I have not done extensive research on this topic I do feel like I am

missing out on some very important information. Although I watch the news and read

articles on social media about the subject I understand that different news networks and

accounts are biased to favor one party over the other I understand that some of the

information I am reading may be biased and politically incorrect. Because of this I am

very excited to research this topic and find correct information about both parties to

express in my party. I believe that the lack of border security has caused an increase in

crime and illegal immigrants in the United States and something needs to change on the

topic of our border security. I know very minimal information about the topic of border

security. The information I do know that the rise of crime and drug trafficking has

increased tremendously, but with that I know that many children and families are being

broken apart because of immigration control.

With this topic I will need to know political points from both parties, information on

the border security that we have now, and new plans for border security in the future.

From this topic I am hoping to learn information about both parties to help make my

decision on how I feel about the old security now and if there needs to be a wall. To find

information I will find trusted websites that give me information for both sides that are

credible. Two research questions that I want to answer from this is, What are the

statistics with border security currently, and what are the new plans for border security,

and how they will hurt or benefit our nation.
