Throughout the course of Media, Technology, and Education, I had the opportunity to

learn a variety of programs, websites, and artifacts which helped me develop a few different

skills. The two skills that I most look forward to utilizing as a teacher are graphic design and

coding. These are both skills that I have barely had the opportunity to learn and being introduced

to them during this course has been very exciting. Coding is a skill that I consistently see being

taught in modern-day elementary schools, yet I have never had the chance to learn it throughout

grade school. Becoming more familiar with coding websites (such as Scratch) is something I

really look forward to doing. Learning about graphic design offers a large range of uses. As a

student who rarely pursues art-based assignments, adding techniques and strategies learned about

graphic design will serve me extremely well in the future.

Technology is rarely an easy addition to generic elementary school classes. The first

challenge that schools and teachers will face is a lack of money/ resources. Many schools may

not have the budget required to afford a wide range of technology that would assist being able to

teach technology-oriented classes on a large scale. Additionally, each student has a different

socio-economic status and may not come from a family with the finances needed to supply them

with technology. Therefore, it would not be wise to assign assignments that require each student

to have access to technology as these students will not be able to participate. Finally, working

with the technological literacy of your students is key. Many students will struggle to understand

and work effectively with technology. Acknowledging and working around these challenges is

important.

My learning experiences from EDEC 262 involved a large wealth of technological

resources, websites, and programs to utilize as a teacher. As evident by the video, using

technology allows a great opportunity to improve student learning. Having such a large wealth of

resources will be extremely beneficial as a teacher. Each student learns best in a variety of ways

so having access to all of these resources will give us the best chance to assist their learning.

Finding a variety of ways to get our students comfortable with technology and engage in a

variety of technology will lead to a better classroom environment.
