SAMPLE DETAILED LESSON PLAN (GRADE 11)

Grade Level: ELEVEN Date:

LearningArea: EARTH AND LIFE SCIENCE Quarter: SECOND

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of the:
a. formation of the universe and the solar system
b. subsystems (geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and biosphere) that make up the
Earth
c. Earth’s internal structure
B. Performance Standard: The learner shall be able to:
a. conduct a survey to assess the possible geologic hazards that your community may
experience
b. conduct a survey or design a study to assess the possible hydrometeorological hazards
that your community may experience
C. Learning Competency: Explain that the Earth consists of four subsystems, across whose
boundaries matter and energy flow. (S11/12ES-Ia-e-4)
1. Define the concept of a system
2. Recognize the Earth as a system composed of subsystem

II. CONTENT: Earth Subsystems

III. LEARNING RESOURCES

A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide pages:
2. Learner’s Material pages:
3. Textbook pages: Curriculum Guide p. 1

IV. PROCEDURE
Elicit
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson
• Ask: What are the properties a planet must possess in order for it to support life?
Engage
B. Establishing a purpose of the new lesson
• Ask: What word comes to your mind when your hear the following words?
 Atmosphere
 Geosphere
 Hydrosphere
 Biosphere
 System
C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson
• State the objectives of the lesson.
Explore
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1
• Let the learners do Activity on Earth Systems
Explain
E. Developing Mastery
• Ask the learners to present their output and check their answers
• Discussion of Earth Systems.

Elaborate
F. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living
• What might happen if any of the four subsystems of Earth fail or becomes disturbed by
human activities?
G. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson
• Ask: What is a system?
• What are the different subsystems of Earth? Describe each.

Evaluate
H. Evaluating learning
Activity-embedded assessment
I. Additional activities for application or remediation
 Do a research about the Gaia hypothesis.
 Show how the earth subsystems interact using a mind map.

V. REMARKS
__________________________________________________________________________________
__________________________________________________________________________________

VI. REFLECTION
A. No. of learners who earned 80% in the evaluation
B. No. of learners who require additional activities for
remediation who scored below 80%
C. Did the remedial lessons work? No. of learners who
have caught up with the lesson
D. No. of learners who continue to require remediation
E. Which of my teaching strategies worked well? Why did
these work?
F. What difficulties did I encounter which my principal or
supervisor can help me solve?
G. What innovation or localized materials did I
used/discover which I wish to share with other
teachers?
