BETTING STRATEGIES

USER GUIDE

[Compound MagicPRO]
INTRODUCTION

In this document you will also find listed some strategies for different sports to kick-
start your profits.

You will also find overleaf The Cascade approach to using Compound Magic PRO.

This betting strategy is not intended to be prescriptive. It is simply one way of

leveraging the power of CMPro’s compounding potential.

The Cascade strategy fully exploits the ability to save and load any of up to 21, on-
going Betting Plans offered by the PRO version.

Creative and thoughtful punters will develop their own strategies but until then, they
might find The Cascade approach of interest.

Time now to look at The Cascade…

1
THE CASCADE
The example below is intended to explain the principle involved in running The
Cascade.

In such a case, running a Cascade enables you to apply considerable leverage to

quickly build your profits.

CMPro has been made small enough to allow several Plans to be open at the same
time.

A Single Selection per event

This example, based on finding one strong selection per event you are interested in, is
the best way to simplify the explanation.

For our convenience in this example we’ll treat each event as being a horse race.

Here we go:

Our initial selection is horse A in, say, the second race at Ascot.

We set up Plan 1. And A is our first bet in Plan 1

PLAN 1: A

Our next selection in, say, the 4th race at Thirsk, is B

But as A has already been bet, B goes into the next column in the Plan, as you can
see:

PLAN 1: A B [We’re betting B as our second bet in Plan 1]

But we also set up a second Plan we’ll number as 2.

And Plan 2 now has B as its first bet:

PLAN 2: B

Starting to get the idea?

Our next selection is C, at Fontwell race 5.

We bet it into Plan1 and into Plan 2:

PLAN 1: A B C
PLAN 2: B C

2
What next?

Yep, we also set up a new Plan 3 to take C as our first bet:

PLAN 3: C

Hopefully you’re definitely getting the idea now. If not, keep reading.

The Cascade (of Plans) continues with our next selection at Ascot race 7, horse D

PLAN 1: ABCD
PLAN 2: BCD
PLAN 3: CD
PLAN 4: D

Our next selection is E:

PLAN 1: ABCDE
PLAN 2: BCDE
PLAN 3: CDE
PLAN 4: DE
PLAN 5: E

If E wins, then PLAN 1 is completed with a nice, fat total profit.

But if E loses you have still pocketed good profits during the Plan, so no wailing and
gnashing of teeth is needed!

Selection F is used to start a new Plan 1 AND selection F goes into remaining plans 2
3 4 and 5.

But what about if there’s a loss that “breaks” a plan?

Simply start another Plan with the next selection as its 1st bet and continue the
pattern.

Rinse and repeat.

Remember: A Plan is always profitable once the 3rd bet has succeeded.

3
Two Selections Per Event
For the 1st Event A and B are both our selections
Set up 4 plans and place first bet in each plan as shown:

PLAN 1: A
PLAN 2: A
PLAN 3: B
PLAN 4: B

For the 2nd Event Two Selections are C & D

They are bet in the 2nd column in each plan as shown:

PLAN 1: A C
PLAN 2: A D
PLAN 3: B C
PLAN 4: B D

3rd Event Two Selections are E & F

PLAN 1: A C E
PLAN 2: A D F
PLAN 3: B C E
PLAN 4: B D F

Selections K and L will eventually start a new Plan 1. Selections G and H followed
by I and J go into remaining plans 2 3 4 and 5.

Obviously, for easy explanation, this illustration assumes all selections succeed!

But again, if loss “breaks” a plan then simply start another Plan with the next
selection and continue the basic principle behind the patterns above.

Obviously the Events can not only be horse races but also head-to-head events such as
tennis, snooker, fencing, or individual team events (football, cricket and so on)

Let your imagination run riot!

Again, another example follows, to illustrate a Head-to-Head Cascade.

4
HEAD-TO-HEAD CASCADE
Ideal for:
 Tennis
 Snooker
 Basketball
 Baseball
 Darts
 …and so on

The idea is to first set up 4 Plans – 2 for the favourite, 2 for the other.

You decide to bet on a tennis match: Greene (1.20) v Taylor(3.20)

PLAN 1 1st choice 2nd choice 3rd choice 4th choice 5th choice
Initial Bet is on the
FAVOURITE:
Greene

PLAN 2 1st choice 2nd choice 3rd choice 4th choice 5th choice
Initial Bet is on the
OTHER
Taylor

PLAN 3 1st choice 2nd choice 3rd choice 4th choice 5th choice
Initial Bet is on the
FAVOURITE
Greenel

PLAN 4 1st choice 2nd choice 3rd choice 4th choice 5th choice
Initial Bet is on the
OTHER
Taylor

Greene wins.

So Plans 1 and 3 are still ‘live’

Next tournament we’ll bet Smith (1.15) v Brown (4.50)

Smith and Brown will go onto the existing live Plans 1 and 3 as the 2nd bets..

And Smith and Brown will also become our 1st bets in two new Plans (You could
reset Plans 2 and 4 and use them if you want to avoid confusing yourself.)

5
Follow Just One Strategy
You might decide to follow one particular horse, greyhound, basketball or football
team.

Perhaps bet only

 when it’s a favourite
 when it’s at home
 when it’s under particular odds
 when it’s within a particular odds range
 when it’s within N points from the nearest competitor

Or…

Follow just one nation in, say, an international cricket or football competition

Follow just one team in a national cricket or football competition, for example

6
HORSE BETTING STRATEGIES

Preamble
These strategies are for place betting Plans, using Compound Magic PRO.

Common sense can help you in your decision making: so avoid competitive
handicaps, heavy and soft ground and extreme distance jumps events.

Also avoid certain race types such as maiden hurdles, maidens, and handicaps.

Stick to small fields (ideally 8-runners to take advantage of the payout for 3 places)

Focus on the place-only market (or low win prices) which is what CMPro was
particularly designed for.

Different Plans
 Run one for each Track on the day

 Run one for a winning trainer/jockey combination …and so on.

You could use Plans for:

• The most tipped horses

• The highest rated horses
• The horses with best recent form
• The fastest horses
• Horses trained by an in form trainer
…plus whatever else you can think of

Let’s now consider the details of The 2-Horse Race.

7
The 2-Horse Race
Run a Plan for the first two in the betting forecast. It works well most of the time.

 Consider races between 8 and 12 runners.

 Avoid competitive races
 Avoid handicaps

What To Look for

A strong favourite
A reasonably priced 2nd favourite
A big gap between the 2nd favourite and the rest of the field.

Example:
Favourite: 1.60
F2: 4.20
F3: 13.75
The rest are from, say, 21.50 upwards

We will bet the 2nd Favourite for a PLACE, as long as it is 1.50 minimum.

8
The 3-Horse Race
 We’re looking for races between 8 and 12 runners.
 Avoid competitive races
 Avoid handicaps

What To Look for

We want the first three favourites to be quite close together in price.
We want a big gap between the 3rd favourite and the rest of the field.

Example:
Favourite: 3.10
F2: 3.90
F3: 4.75
The rest are from, say, 17.00 upwards

We will bet the 2nd Favourite and/or 3rd Favourite for a PLACE, if the place dividend
is 1.50 minimum.

Standout Selections From The Forecast

Open www.racingpost.co.uk

Go through the cards race by race and make a note of all forecast favourites who are
priced at 3/1 or lower in the betting forecast found at the bottom of the card.

NB: Discard maiden/claimer/seller/ banded stakes/novices hurdle

Pay special attention to those races where there is a noticeable price gap between the
1st and 2nd favourites in the betting forecast.

Example:
Betme is the favourite in the betting forecast at 4/6.
The second horse, Maybe, is priced at 5/1
We have a noticeable gap between the pair.

If Betme was priced at 6/4 and the second-named horse in the betting forecast was
priced at 5/2, the prices are quite close.
Give Betme+1 point and give Maybe zero.

Also consider allocating these points to help differentiation:

C = course winner +1
D = distance winner +1
DSL <31 +1
Highest RPR +1
LR = 1 or 2 +1
< 13 runners +1

NB: at the time of writing this (Nov 2013) the site is NOT FireFox-friendly. Use
either Chrome or IE.

Betdevil: For independent ratings this free site is unbeatable. It offers a ratings tool

As the site says: “…match analysis on 110 leagues, 85 cups in 55 countries, plus all
international matches and cup competitions. That’s 33,000+ matches annually.”

Their ratings are broken down into:

 home team versus away team performance ratings
 league goal analysis
 ratings analysis (based around rate form, recent form, league form, combo
form), sequences and streaks
 probability
 recent league form
 head to heads

FOOTBALL SELECTIONS
Preamble
Football (and in-running football) can offer some good opportunities for bets with
highly likely outcomes.

These could include:

 1 goal or more in the total goals market
 backing a team when they are 2-0 up in the match odds market
 backing ultra short home teams in a double (e.g. 1.18 and 1.26).

To help guide your selections, you could do a lot worse than to take note of Mr
Keeling’s almost daily, extensive Football Research notes:
http://www.whatreallywinsmoney.co.uk/category/football/

Choosing The Match

The key to success here is with the correct choice of football match.

Look for the following.

 A short-priced team playing at home

 Quick check regarding recent form and the team must be in good recent league
form
 The opposition must be in poor recent form or lower league opposition

Back and Lay

Back teams (for the place or win or both) who are :

 very strongly fancied to win their matches

 playing at home. [Home advantage and short prices normally result in the
home team not losing.]

As an optional extra, LAY their opponents.

A High Strike Rate

Certain teams in a country’s premier league equivalents tend to dominate their leagues
year in and year out.

Examples:
 The Big 4 in England
 Olympiacos and Panathinaikos in Greece

12
 Fenerbahcae and Galatasaray in Turkey
 Lyon in France
 Bayern Munich in Germany
 Barcelona in Spain

Look for a dominant team:

 priced at 2/5 or shorter
 playing at home

They tend to win well and often.

Performance Checks
www.soccerstats.com is but one of many sites which can show you a team’s
performance over a season.

Look at the HOME FIXTURE tables for, say, England

Teams heading the HOME WINS tables at www.soccerstats.com tend to win the
majority of their matches, especially if priced at 2/5 or lower.

Barcelona are not always 2/5 or shorter at home, especially when Real Madrid are in
town.

Dominant home teams could include:

Manchester United, Celtic, Olympiacos, Ajax, Barcelona and AC Milan.

Between them you’ll find plenty of home fixtures, plenty of short prices (ideally less
than 1 / 2 or 4/9 at home) and a high strike rate of wins at home.

This is a viable alternative to horse racing.

Optional Extras To Consider

Only bet the favourite if the favourite’s odds are within a certain range

Only bet the favourite if the favourite’s odds are X points below the competing team

BACK the team as per usual (in an in-running football match on Betfair) and look to
trade out after the team score the first goal (which is usually the case).

GREYHOUNDS

Improvers Strategy: A Simple Selection Method

Applicable to both UK and Australian greyhounds.

The principle is based on identifying possible improvers, and then using the market as
a guide to the dogs identified by the strategy.

Method

Consider the last 3 placings.

Placed Points
1 1 point
2 2 points
3 3 points
4+ 10 points

We add in pairs from left to right.

In the example below, look at the first dog listed: Kanga Whiz. The extreme right is
where the last 3 places are shown.

Kanga Whiz achieved for the last three races: 778.

We add the points for the places77 = 10+10 = 20, then add points for 78 = 10+10 =
20
The 20-20 is interpreted as: poor performance without improvement.

Peno Boy: 52 = 12 28 = 12 (So 12-12 is interpreted as no improvement)

Boxes and Traps

In Australia, we bear in mind boxes 1, 2 and 8 are statistically the best ones. This site
is excellent for state and box breakdowns: http://www.hotdogs.com.au/statistics

In the UK This site is excellent for trap stats: http://www.greyhound-data.com/

 Click on Stadia
 Then choose a dog track (stadium) from the list on the left
 Then click the Trap Statistics tab at the top.

Remember to use the market as your final guide.

Let’s now look at a four examples.

14
Example 1

Prices shown are from this totalizer: http://tatts.com/

1 20-20
2 12-12
3 12-13
42 improver, poor trap
5 3-4 good performer despite a poor trap
6 20-20
7 20-20
8 11-13

Numbers 4 and 5 stand out as confirmed by the market. And…

15
Example 2

1 13-11 slight improver, good box/trap

2 12-4 improver, good box/trap
3 13-13
4 14-14
5 14-9 improver in a poor box/trap, and the market says No
6 3-4 performer in a poor box/trap, and the market says No
7 20-11 improver in a poor box/trap, and the market says No
8 12-20

With the market as our guide 1 and 2 are our selections and…

16
Example 3

1 12-11 improver, good box

2 6-4 improver, good box
3 14-14
4 20-12
5 5-12
6 20-12
7 11 possible but a poor box
8 20-11 improver, good box

With the market as a guide, number 2 is our selection and…

17
Example 4

1 13-13
2 scr
3 20-12 improver, poor box
4 20-13 improver, poor box
5 13-20
6 4-12
7 20-20
8 20-13 improver, good box
9 6-13

3 4 and 8. We’ll go with 8 – improver, in a good box and the market says Yes.

A good decision

TENNIS STRATEGIES

Research
To help guide your selections, you could do a lot worse than to take note of Mr
Keeling’s extensive Tennis research notes:

http://www.whatreallywinsmoney.co.uk/category/tennis/

Selection Strategies
There are, of course, dozens of methods to bet on tennis.

But here is a quick, easy and effective strategy, based on the price-gaps between the
Favourite and the opponent.

Strategy 1
Step 1: Consider matches where the favourite is paying a minimum of 1.50

Step 2: And the difference between the favourite and the outsider should be 0.50 or
over.

Bet the Favourite for the WIN

Strategy 2
We’re looking for a close gap between the two players.

Consider matches where the gap is no more than 1.50

Bet the higher-priced player for the WIN.

Example: A = $2.30 B = 2.70 So we will bet player B.

Look at the W and L columns to help you sort through the teams.

Obviously the highest and consistent winners could be the ones to consider in

A Simple Selection Method

Rule 1
Eliminate the game where:

 the underdog has lost 3 or more games in a row

 or the favourite has won 3 or more games in a row

Remember that every baseball team face some long losing streaks as well as long
winning streaks.

21
Rule 2
Eliminate games where the price for the underdog is over 2.50

In such a case there’s a reason. Avoid such a game!

Rule 3
Eliminate games where the underdog is facing a very good pitcher.

If they’re facing a pitcher in the top 20 of the MLB, move on to another selection.

Resources
You can use any newspaper as well as a lot of web sites to have access to this
information.
A good site is www.tsn.com

The pitcher’s standing must be according to Earned-Run Average (ERA).

The Final Word

Here are some recommended additions to your punting toolkit.

1 Dutch-5 For Dutch Book Betting

Watch Steve’s video of him making a good profit on three races with the much-
requested Dutch 5 software . He shows how you can bet up to 5 selections at a time,
but make a profit AND recover all bets when one of them wins.

He also demonstrates its unique feature that allows it to continually remain visible
on the desktop.

As you’ll see, that’s extremely helpful when trying to juggle several other programs
and web pages to get the bets on in time: http://www.dutch-5.com/

23
2 Spread-5 For Controlled Outlays
Ideal for punters who prefer casual, low-stress punting.

Simply plug in how much you want to spend on any race or sporting event -- the
software does the rest.

It calculates how much to bet on up to 5 selections for an event. (Or fewer, of course.)

Use Spread-5 on dogs, horses and certain sports outcomes like football correct score,
tennis sets betting and so on.

And as a superb bonus every purchase includes a very detailed Strategy

Suggestions ebook, offering several potentially profitable ways to use Spread-5 on
horses, tennis, football and more besides.

Lots of easy-to-follow examples to get you up-n-profiting within a matter of minutes.

It alone is easily worth the modest purchase price: http://www.spread-5.com/

3 A Sound Laying Method

Identifying False Favourites (the ones with only a small winning chance despite the
hype) can help swell the bank balance because of their high failure rate and low
liabilities.

This identification requires skill and know-how you will learn from False Favourites
written by very respected English author and Betfair trainer, Jon Burgess.

The book’s principles are applicable to any racing jurisdiction or country -- no matter
where you live or bet, in other words.

Very strongly recommended from here:

4 International Trifecta (Tricast) Betting

This valuable ebook details many tried and tested betting strategies you will need to
extract your share of the huge, international pools of money available for tricast /
trifecta betting -- all from the comfort of your own home.

International Trifecta Betting includes all the international links needed to give you a
big edge in profiting from what is really the last frontier.

Right now tricast betting is still largely unexploited by punters who have been put off
by high outlays.

5 Maria-5
This lay betting, money management software is just what you need to help keep
your laying liabilities under control. With it you can lay up to five events or
selections at a time. http://www.maria-5.com/

Simply key in the lay prices and your bets are calculated using Maria’s percentages,
to control your liabilities.

In that way, Maria (well known to many UK punters) built her bank from £3000 to
around £100,000 in about 12 months. Although Maria revealed her betting strategy
she did not reveal her lay selection methods.

Therefore, your purchase of Maria-5 includes the option of also buying our ebook of
15 successful Lay Strategies, suitable for both UK and/or Australian horse racing.

But if you already have a satisfactory laying system of your own, then simply choose
the purchase option without the ebook included.
