Second:

These past few weeks have been very fulfilling in the Simulation lab.

The night I was scheduled to teach in the face-to-face classroom, I

encountered some technical difficulties that had me feeling a little

embarrassed. I had prepared a power point presentation, and had placed a

short montage of film clips into a slide. I had transferred the presentation

onto a flash drive to use in the classroom. My preceptor helped me set up,

introduced me to the class, and then the whole computer system shut down.

We called the tech help desk to come fix the problem, which they did, and

then my flash drive wouldn’t work. I had to call the tech help desk again to

help me troubleshoot this problem. While all this was going on I couldn’t

help but wonder what kind of first impression I was making on the students.

After all the tech issues were resolved the rest of the class went extremely

well, and I feel I was able to redeem myself with the confidence I had in the

subject matter I was covering. My presentation provided time for reflection,

questions, hands on application, and evaluation with discussion. The

students were engaged, and responsive, and I felt very positive at the end of

class.

Every Friday I am working with the accelerated students in the

fundamentals lab. I am feeling very confident in this area. I was able to

validate students during their physical assessment validations, which was

one of my goals. I was both nervous and excited to participate. I could feel

the pressure the students were under, and as a nurse I wanted to see them do

well, but as a nurse educator I felt the responsibility of the evaluation and

validation. I feel that the students are getting used to my presence and seem

genuinely happy to see me.

The simulation lab is a great place to engage the learners because of

the nature of the learning environment. As students rotate through their skills

or scenarios I am able to pre-brief, answer questions, demonstrate technique,

and debrief effectively. The students engage, listen, ask questions, and are

very receptive to my teaching. I haven’t encountered any obstacles to my

teaching at this point that I can think of.

The simulation lab is a good match for both my teaching style and my

personal style. I feel very comfortable and confident in this area. I would

like to be able to have more experience in the classroom environment, as I

think this is probably one area I could improve on.

I am on target to meet my objectives. I have been working hard on the NLN

End-of-Life Simulation. This has been a comprehensive experience

developing this simulation, and we finally go live with it on 4/2/19. I am

very excited to see how it goes.

Overall I am enjoying this internship very much!
