Western Philosophy

Last tuesday morning, March 26 , 2019 we recite the previous activity the negative and positive
comment of my classmate wrote in yellow paper , the value that ive learned from this activity is to
continue the good comments and change the negative attitude of mine. After that Mr. Rueme discussed
Western Philosophy. Western Philosophy was different from Eastern/Asian Philosophy. Western
philosophy is more of a physical and natural sciences rather than moral and ethical philosophy. Sir Jene
Sotto gave his example according to Socrates said "Let's not think that we know everything". We are
like a glass with full of water, when you add more, you will not accepted it we will refuse it. I gave my
own understanding and i particapated in class the topic is look similar and related on the movie of Jackie
Chan one of the Buddhist said on that movie if you add nonsense thing on your mind , your brain full
with none social work in your society .And then we continue the discussion about the other
philosophers. According to Thales, everything came out from water. The most fundamental needs in
earth is water, from the beginning he explained the womb of the pregnant mother has a water. But
different to Anaximenes, everything came out from air not to water because you cant live without air
also. My classmate shared their point of view . Anaximander is the student of Thales, the ideas of
evolution is came from him but sir jene thaugth to us the best philosophy is the book of bible which is
we experience and truly happening rigth now. Because Charles Darwin Theory of Human Evolution .is if
we really came us from monkey and we evolve why the monkey in the zoo's and forest now are not
getting human? Some of my classmate creates ideas regard on that theory but this is not convincing to
me . Next philosopher was Xenophanes, who questions about Greek Gods, he believed that we only one
God, and I strongly agree. Lastly, Pythagoras, for him all things are numbers. He is the eponymous
founder of Pythagoreanism.

The next Thursday morning March 28, 2019, Ms. Danafrata continue the discussion. She discussed the
sophist, a sophist was a specific kind of teacher in ancient Greece. Debate is the source of their
understanding in philosophy of teaching debate is a kind of student centered, to have an interactions
with the students Next she tackled is social competencies, it reflects having an ability to take another's
perspective concerning a situation, learn from the changes in social interactions. No man is an island, we
cannot live alone. But live your life to the fullest and be optimistic at all time and use your life to
illuminate many .Next is Georgias of Leontini, according to Ms. Danafrata all we have seen is an illusion.
And then my philosophy in life is like with Thracymachus of Chalcedon, survival of the fittest , Only have
power will be successful.
Trust to yourself and stand alone but use your moral courage Nowadays, money is key to success. Many
is most powerfull thing in earth , many can buy happiness ,Money is the symbol of power and authority.
If you are rich you have already a power and prestige. Last that she discussed is Socrates, according to
her Socrates didn't teach anything directly.Socrates- he is the father of philosophy he is the ringleader of
Socratic method of teaching. But? What is the Socratic method of teaching? One of my classmate raised
her hand to answer the question Rovielyn answered that the Socratic method is to develop our critical
thinking. And also Socrates sentenced to death due to corruption of youth on minds . And last report
was Mr. Tapang, he tackled about Plato, Plato was a student of Socrates and later taught Aristotle.
Aristotle is the father of logic. Mr. Tapang's give one logic example is "All birds have wings. Angels have
wings, therefore angels are birds?". Sir Jene also gave a wonderful logic. Based on the Bible the King of
wisdom .The Judgment of Solomon is a story from the Hebrew Bible in which King Solomon of Israel
ruled between two women both claiming to be the mother of a child. Solomon revealed their true
feelings and relationship to the child by suggesting to cut the baby in two, with each woman to receive
half. With this strategy, he was able to discern the non-mother as the woman who entirely approved of
this proposal, while the actual mother begged that the sword might be sheathed and the child
committed to the care of her rival.A real mother always does not allow her to hurt her child so, King
Solomon gave the baby to the real mother who have concerned to the baby.. Mr Tapang tackled also the
epicureanism, greatest good is to seek modest pleasures. he tackled is about stoicism, we cannot control
the fate, but you can control yourself. which teaches the development of self-control and fortitude as a
means of overcoming destructive emotions
