LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS V

Collecting data on one variable using any source

I. Learning Objective:
At the end of the lesson, 80% of the learners should be able to:
 Collects data on one variable using any source
 Write data presented on a source
 Cooperation with the group.

II. Learning Content:

Skill: Collect data on one variable using any source.

Reference: CG p. 65, MISOSA Gr. 5 Module –Line Graph
Materials: graph, pocket charts, grid board
Value: Proper nutrition

III. Learning Experience

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Preparatory Activities “Good morning Sir!”
“Good morning,class!”

“Please stand, and let us pray” (The pupils will pray the Mathematics Prayer)

(checking of attendance)

I. Drill (The pupils will come up with the following

Individual Activity: answers)
Give the temperature if the mercury is:
1. At the room temperature 1. 20 °C
2. At freezing point of water 2. 0 °C
3. At boiling point of water 3. 100 °C
4. At normal body temperature 4. 37 °C
5. 25 °C above freezing point of water 5. 25 °C

II. Review

The teacher will conduct a review about creating

problems involving temperature with reasonable
answer.

“What have we discussed yesterday? “creating problems involving temperature”

“Very good, in this example, we need to create

the problem and find for its solution”

Lhea’s today body temperature is 37 degrees

Celsius
Yesterday’s body temperature was 38.9 degrees
Celsius
Problem:_________
Solution: _________

“What do you think might be the problem?” “What is the difference of Lhea’s body
temperature from yesterday and today?”

“Very good, now, how can we solve this Asked: The difference of Lhea’s body temperature
problem? Using the Polya’s method, we need to from yesterday and today
understand what is asked and the given facts. So Given: 37°C- today’s temperature
what is asked and the given facts? 38.9°C- yesterday’s temperature

Next proceed to our plan, so to find the solution Plan: Get the difference of Lhea’s body
what is the best thing to do to solve the problem? temperature by subtracting yesterday’s
What operation to be used? temperature to today’s temperature

Then solve. 38.9°C-37°C= N 1.9°C

What is the answer?

Very good. Now we need to check. From today’s 38.9°C

temperature we need to add 1.9°C and we need
to find the temperature of yesterday.
37°C+1.9=38.9°C

Did we get the same temperature of yesterday’s? Yes

B. Presentation

a. Motivation:

The class will form into 4 groups and will be given

3 minutes to answer the given cards

The first group finish first got an extra point

b. Lesson Proper

Based on your works, what have you noticed on Having tallies based on the picture. By observing
the work of group 1 and group 3? How did they and counting the figure.
get the answer
How about the groups 2 and 4? Having tallies based on interview. By having a
survey to groupmates.
Very good!

Our topic for today is about Collecting data on

one variable using any source

To collect data on one variable using any source

we can use these three ways:

1. By observation
2. By listing or gathering data
3. By Survey/ interview

By observation

I have here some data and we need to collect the

variables in the following problem by making an
observation. We need to fill the tables to find the
answer.
Car Total
Red 5 Red-5
Yellow 10 Yellow-10
Blue-10
Blue 10
Black-6
Black 6
Green-8
Green 8

By listing or gathering data

I have here some data and we need to collect the

variables in the following problem by listing or
gathering data.We need to fill the tables to find
the answer.

Mr. Arceo recorded the number of foreign visitors

to an exhibition on five days. There were 35
foreigners who watched the show on Wednesday,
40 on Thursday, 18 on Friday, 55 on Saturday
and 110 on Sunday. Wednesday-35
Days Foreigner visited Thursday-40
Wednesday 35 Friday-18
Thursday 40 Saturday--55
Friday 18 Sunday-110
Saturday 55
Sunday 110

By survey/ interview

I have here some data and we need to collect the

variables in the following problem by having a
survey or an interview. We need to fill the tables
to find the answer.

Collect your data by counting the number of

animals they have in their home.
Dog _________
Cat _________
Bird _________
Fish _________
Rabbit _________
Horse _________

c. Fixing Skills

Make a list by collecting the data in the problem. Month Number of Magazine sold
January 650
Janina had an inventory of the monthly sales of February 500
magazines from January to May. Last January, March 700
there were 650 magazines sold. Five hundred April 300
were sold on February, 700 on March, 300 on May 900
April and 900 on May.

C. Generalization
To collect data on one variable using any source
Therefore, Class, In what ways can we we can use:
use to collect data on one variable using any observation
source. survey
listing or gathering data from a source
D. Application

Group Activity:

Organize pupils into four groups. The

leader will interview their groupmates on what
food in the canteen they liked the most. Then the
group needs to write their answers by making a list/
table.

IV. Evaluation

1-5. Direction: Make a table using the following problem

The Sky Ranch management accounted the number of people who arrived during its first
week of operation. One thousand two hundred tourists came on its opening day. On its second day
of operation, 900 visitors arrived. There were 650 people came on the third day, 1300 on the fourth
day and 800 on the fifth day.

6-10. Direction: Identify the ways can we use on collecting data on one variable using any source.
6. If you are going to ask your classmates about their favorite food.
7. If you look the kinds of crops planted in the garden.
8. If you are going to list your grades on third quarter.
9. If you want to know your classmate’s favorite cartoon character.
10. If you want to know the brand of the ball pen your classmate used.

V. Assignment:

Make an interview to your neighborhood about their favorite dessert. Then make a table
using the data that you have gathered.
