April 14, 2018. The day we start our on the job training in Solaire.

I’m so thankful to
God because I have the opportunity to work in a five star hotel. We are assigned in food and
beverage department at Lucky Noodles restaurant with Princess Vista and Kristine Palattao.
Lucky Noodles is an open kitchen with a dining counter allows you to watch our chefs in
action and whet your appetite for our Asian comfort food this quick and casual retreat is
always buzzing with energy. It is open 24 hours a day so you’ll always have a chance to
indulge.

We woke up early in the morning every day. We ride a jeep going to mall of asia and
ride a shuttle going to solaire. First, we went to the wardrobe to get our uniform in lucky
noodles. They accompany us and introduce to the manager, assistant manager, supervisor
and coworkers. They orient us first about lucky noodles, the lucky noodles guidelines, they
tour us in a work environment like in a pantry area, hot pass, side stations, cashier, podium,
and dimsum. The notification of absence from work, table and seat number familiarization,
food training, duties and responsibilities of a food and drink runner. At first, I felt nervous
and excited at the same time, I was shy but after a few days I was able to inject jokes with the
team members. They told me that they are just like me when they are starting their job. The
employees in lucky noodles are very kind. They helped me in my works. I observed what
they did everyday until I learned how to manage my own self. At the back area, we fold table
napkin and put the spoon, fork, and knife inside the table napkin. We always go to the
laundry to drop the dirty linens and pick up the washed table napkin and rags. We portion
crackers in a cracker bowl and cover it with a clean wrap. We wipe cutleries, glasses, plates,
baby plates, soup spoon, soy dish, serving spoon and colorful chopsticks. We put the soup
spoon, serving spoon and soy dish in to dimsum, hot pass and podium. I experienced to be a
receptionist. I welcome every customer, lead them to their table and gave the menu.
Sometimes I am assigned as a drink runner, I greet first to the customer and served their
drinks. And when I’m in the dimsum, I served steam shomai, steam ribs, chinese roll,
noodles, siopao, lugaw and different soups.

I was able to learned how to accept small or big mistakes. In this OJT, I have learned
how to face the real world and talked to different people. In my first day as an OJT, I thought
I was not able to do well but as time past by I know I gained more self-confidence and self-
esteem. I know sometimes I will fail, and get criticized but I take it as a challenge to improve
more and to move forward instead of pushing myself backwards. I gained knowledge, I
learned new skills, I met different people. I learned to be respectful especially to those on the
higer position, to socialize and build a relationship with other employees, to be humble and
always eager to learn. I am now having a hard time accepting the fact that my internship is
over which basically means that I won’t be able to be with my new found family anymore. It
was only just eight weeks, but it was more than enough for me to treasure them as a family. I
can say that my personal experience here in solaire provides everything not just for the real
world of securing an employment but for me to look forward to after my graduation.
