The design is being done as per working stress method of designing of concrete structures.

4.DESIGN OF TOP RING BEAM :

The top ring beam is provided to resist the horizontal component of the meridional thrust of the top dome. The middle
plane of the ring beam is aligned with the central line of the dome.

6. DESIGN OF BOTTOM RING BEAM :

V = load transmitted through the tank wall at the top of the conical dome per m length.
It is the combined effect of the following loads,
i) Load due to top dome = area of the slab x meridional stress x sinu
= 14357 N/m
ii) Load due to top ring beam = 3375 N/m
iii) Load due to cylindrical wall = 23125 N/m
iv) Load due to ring beam = 6250 N/m Let , width= 500 mm,depth= 500 mm
Total load,V = 47107 N/m

Horizontal force, H =V Cotθ = 47107 N θ= 45


= 47.11 KN
Hoop tension due to vertical load = HD / 2 = 344 KN
Hoop tension due to water pressure=whdD/2= 62 KN
Total Hoop tension = 406 KN
Hence area of steel required = 3120 mm2

7. DESIGN OF CONICAL DOME :

Average diameter of the conical dome = 11.6 m.


Average depth of water = 4.7 m.
Assume thickess of slab = 300 mm
Weight of water above conical dome = 3355 KN
Self weight of slab = 773 KN
Load from top dome, top ring beam, cylindrical wall and bottom ring beam= 2012 KN
Total load at the base of the conical slab = 6140 KN

Load per unit length, V2 = 204 KN / m


Meridional thrust T = V2 Cosec θ = 288 KN θ= 45 0
Meridional stress = 0.96 N/mm2 Limiting value = 8 N/mm2 Hence, Safe

Hoop tension in conical dome will be maximum at a depth h' from top of conical shell and h'= 1.40 mtr.

Weight of conical dome slab per sq. m. is computed as, q= 7.5 KN/m2

8.DESIGN OF BOTTOM SPHERICAL DOME

Thickness of dome slab assumed = 150 mm

Radius of the dome, R = 10.20 m

9. DESIGN OF BOTTOM CIRCULAR GIRDER

Thrust from conical dome= T1 = 288 KN/m acting at an angle of, a = 45 0

Thrust from spherical dome= T2 = 249.61 KN/m acting at an angle of, b = 28.07 0
to the horizontal.
Net horizontal force on ring beam = T1 Cosa - T2 Cosb = -16.56 kN / m
Conical Dome Bottom Dome
Max.Hoop compression in the beam= -79.47 KN
Assuming size of the ring girder width= 600 ,depth= 1200
Hoop stress in the beam= -0.11 N/mm2
T1 T2 Limiting value = 8 N/mm2 Hence, Safe.
 Vertical load on ring beam =T1 Sina + T2 Sinb = 321.16 kN / m
Self weight of the beam = 18 kN / m
