determine: What sources do Latinos trust to get
their news? Which news stories are most
important to Latinos? What are journalists missing
when it comes to covering the growing Hispanic
community in the United States? Links to this
survey are being sent out to thousands of Latino
community leaders throughout the United States.
This includes business owners and executives,
community advocates, health care providers,
educators, elected and appointed officials, people
from law enforcement and the legal profession,
retirees and students. We are trying to reach out
to a representative cross-section of the American
Latino community. Your participation in this
survey is anonymous.

2 I always want to know what is being
reported and how it affects Latinos.

having been born, raised, studied and
a military veteran of the US, however I
seek to remain connected with my
hispanic heritage by involving myself
in issues that affect all, however with
a more predominance towards by
cultural background.

5 As a Virginia Beach, VA resident, it is

hard for me to stay connect to my
community; for that reason, I am
forced to seek the news I need about
Hispanic issues from National Media.
My local media does a terrible job at
covering Hispanic issues.

1 Although, I'll tune to Spanish language
to see their coverage on elections and
other news affecting Latinos.
2 News reporters in English seem to be
more professional and use a tone of
voice that keeps me intrigued, where
as in spanish, I drift off and their voice
seemed robotic.
3 Because I have a newspaper

Respondent # Response
1 When talking about immigrants there
are not only Mexicans or Latinos,
every day there are more end more
Russians, Iranians, Orientals, etc, etc
2 I am also Spanish from Spain.
3 Thank you for offering this survey.
4 I organized one of the largest and
most well attended Drug and ALcohol
Education conference in Spanish in
San Diego and I asked every year to
the media to cover my event and the
never had. It is sad, but that is the
way it is here in San Diego

5 No
6 no
7 Conmeasurate salaries and equal
employment opportunities. The
corruption of our legal system. Biases
in the judicial and health care systems
when addressing the needs of the
hispanic populace.
8 No, however, consider not making the
survey so long.
9 If there were good SL radio news in
the local area, I'd listen to it. I miss
RADIO UNICA.
10 Not enough attention to Latino
contributions in daily life or
historically. Like we do not exist.
11 All corporate news organizations tend
to under report on important news
and do not challenge the views of
political leaders of their liking. They
also tent to sensationalize the news
and have a lot of content that is
gossip and not news. Corporate media
tends to have a lot of catchy popular
content that is irrelevant to peoples
lives.
12 online sources such as tbo.com lead
with sensational stories that incite
outcries for locals, such as "are illegal
aliens taking advantage of your tax
dollars?". Never objective stories
which just report the facts about
Hispanics. As far as I am concerned
they are mainly responsible for
today's anti-immigrant climate.
13 We need more analytical media in the
Spanish market
14 I don't want to see the hispanic
community broken out the way people
of african decent have done. Latinos
don't have a crutch or chip on their
shoulder. What we have is a proud
tradition but it should not be
showcased as we are better than
another race or culture, we are simply
here contributing to and making life
better for our brothers and sisters.
