Alice’s Garden Script

Actors

Alice’s Garden Outline​: ​blocking/ rehearsal add in’s are in red

Pre-show:
● Music plays. ​Alice’s Garden Theme/Improv​ Gardener will invite children to come in and
sit down on “grass”.
● Gardener introduces the show and sets expectations for parents and children.
● Lights go down.
Scene 1:
● Theme 1. ​Gardener Enters.
● Gardener waters and smells the flowers
● Gardener inspects carrots and pulls one out
● While Gardener is inspecting carrots a bunny comes on stage and looks hungry​.

● Gardener goes to take a bite out of the carrot but the bunny takes it before Gardener can
take a bite ​Ragtime
○ Bunny & gardner have a stare down before bunny takes it
● Gardener chases the bunny around and tries to get the carrot
○ Gardner give the bunny a mom voice “no” and the bunny sadly returns the carrot
● Gardener gets the carrot back and the bunny exits ​Ragtime resolution
○ Gardner waves to the audience and has them say: “bye bunny”
● Gardener “humphs” and goes back to collecting the carrots
Scene 2: Bees
● While Gardener is collecting carrots a swarm of bees comes ​No sustain Theme 2. ​and
tickles the back of the Gardeners head. Gardener swats away without looking. Bees
keep pestering.
● Gardener turns around surprised by all the bees, yelps, and runs around the stage.
Theme 2 faster.
● Gardener realizes the bees tickle
○ Emma bees enter on stage and tickle the audience.
● Bees interact and tickle the children ​Transition Music 1.
● Bees carry the carrot away ​Theme 2 1x.
○ Emma grabs the carrot with her gloved bees
● Gardener realizes carrot is gone
● Gardener goes back to Garden and sits down defeated. Sees a spray bottle and decides
to water the plants.
○ Gardner has an “ah ha” moment and asks the children if she should water the
flowers
Scene 3: Watering flowers
● Gardener sprays plants and realizes how much fun it is to get wet. Gardener sprays
herself.
○ She does this while humming/ whistling
● Gardener continues to water plants and then ‘waters’ the audience accidently
● Gardener sprays water above audience on mist mode.
● Gardener sprays flowers which grow and grow
● Flowers are actors A and B they come to life and do a dance in which they allow the
audience to feel their soft leaves and smell their flowery scent ​Theme 1.
○ The flowers make “he he” giggling noises
● Flowers dance away ​Transition ​ leaving Gardener wondering what was in that water she
was playing in
○ Gardner asks audience: “ what was in that water?”

Scene 4: Caterpillars
● Caterpillar peaks head around backdrop holding the carrot in its mouth. Hopefully
audience will react. Gardener will look back and the Caterpillar will disappear. Go back
and forth.
○ Caterpillars make eeeee noises
○ This happens 2x before the gardner catches it. ( power of 3)
● Gardener reacts gleefully when she sees the carrot. The Caterpillar comes out. Other
smaller Caterpillar comes out. ​Boop Bop.
○ Small caterpillar comes out when the gardner says “ahh” then climbs along the
wall to the gardener's shoulder then down her arm.
○ The gardner takes both of the caterpillars to the planter box in center stage
● They both go around munching on everything they can find. Including the babies hands.
Transition Music
● Gardener gets back carrot and hugs it and loves it. The caterpillars go away.

Scene 5:Butterflies
● The Gardener is about to take a bite of the carrot when a ​Purple(Emma)​ Butterfly comes
in and lands on Gardeners head, other butterfly comes in and steals carrot and hides it.
Theme 3.
○ Larrissa- yellow butterfly- hides the carrot in the stage left bush
● Gardener notices and is frustrated. Again. ​She looks for the carrot
● Butterfly puppets land on the babies heads, fans their faces, and babies are allowed to
play with them.
● Butterflies dance around the gardener, one sneezes confetti on the gardener. And flies
off. ​Theme 3 reprise.
○ On stage left the bunny reappears, sees the carrot in the bush and steals it and
runs off stage. The gardner doesn’t see this.
● Gardener gets an idea and pulls out a huge net and tries to capture the Butterfly for
sneezing on her.
● She chases the butterflies behind the set and reappears saying “missed”

Scene 6: Wind and pinwheel fun ​Music TBD


● Sound of wind blowing, Gardener reacts to wind by holding onto stuff.
● Windchimes begin to make noises
● The gardner goes to the pinwheels
● Other actors come in with pinwheels
● They do a 20 second pinwheel dance
● All three actors show the pinwheels to the babies
● The carrot appears to be flying in the wind, the gardner sees this and goes after the
carrot, but the carrot disappears.
● There is some thunder music que into transition to rain storm

Scene 7: Rain storm


● Stronger wind sound, a storm is coming!
● Actor 1 and 2 bring on the “rain curtains” and the Gardener plays in it ​Theme 1.
○ The curtain is laying on the floor discreetly by the backdrop. Actors will pick it up
and shake the curtain
○ Then gardner pulls out her umbrella and the rain goes back and forth over her
they repeat this a few times.

● Tickle the babies with the rain


● Gardner gets an idea and tries to blow away the storm it doesn’t work.
● She invites the audience to blow away the storm saying 1...2...3… *blows really hard*
● She asks the audience to blow harder.
● The rain blows away ​Piano roll ​and the carrot is revealed

​Scene 8: Rainbow fun


● Rainbow streamers appear ​with the carrot attached at the top of the rainbow. Gardner is
thrilled!
● Choreography ​CFA trill
○ Rainbows dance on each side of the stage
○ They do a series of slow arching waves while the gardner blows bubbles to the
audience
○ Then the rainbow comes to the audience, and the Gardner goes center stage to
blow bubbles.
○ At a music cue the rainbows leave the children and exit the stage ​Transition
music

Scene 9: Carrots, Carrots, Carrots!


● Gardener is happy. Realized it has rained and runs to check on her plants. ​Theme 2 X1
● She pulls out 4 lovely looking carrots and is so happy she could die.
○ She counts out loud and gets more excited with each carrot​.
● She pulls out the last carrot and wants to eat it, she looks around to make sure no one
will steal it
● She takes a bite out of one triumphantly and strolls offstage
● Lights dim and cricket sounds turn on

Scene 10: Nightime and Lightning bugs ​Theme 1 and improv till close with CFA trill
● Ending of the show, music, lights go down, cricket noises and the lightning bugs come
out.
● Choreography TBD
○ Each actor grabs the lights and does 4 counts of 8 alternating going up and
down.

The End

● Actors pass out caterpillars and surveys with pens
