This research is aimed to overcome the barriers essential competency levels in third key stage
in primary Education especially in Mathematics Dividing Skill. It is a Tradition to conduct
competition in the Language and maths yearly at the pass level among the students in the
Colombo district to show their inborn ability. It is a condition that only a student from each
school can contest for competition at the Zonal level.
Therefore the students who are highly proficient in the subject are selected and allowed
compete in the maths subject when an exercise in division for and intelligence (should solve 100
divison problems speedly and within the specifiedtime ) was givin A student from a particular
school was not able to complete with the students of other school
I do this research with the students of dehiwala tamil vidyalaya AS an explanation was given
by the ministry of education to say that practical research is necessary for primary students. The
number of students studying in grade 5 is 22. I gave them first a 100 box sum as a pre test.twele
students reached the successlevelof it. To the remaining ten students. I explained that division is
a contribution by means of real materials. I conducted lesson withpractical from 1.30 to 2.15 for
three days in a week. eight students out of ten shined brightly I have supportedit with pretest
and posttest apparatus used, suportive learning and happy activities were very helpful to their
Improvement.
They face difficulty in applying the multiplication tabls of 6 , 7 and8. A student under stands it
very well when hedrew digram and do the division. He is talented to draw digrams. A girl student
has vision problem, when She looks at us. It looks like she is looking some where elese. I in formed
her mother also about this and requested to show her a doctor . she said that she has it from
her birth But I found that the girl student is interested in studing and self confident.
