A. Shuttle back in orbit
Two years after the Columbia tragedy grounded NASA's manned space
flight program, space shuttle Discovery returned NASA to outer space
with a successful two-week mission. However, anxious moments came
after foam insulation knocked loose on take-off caused a two-day delay
in Discovery's return to Earth.

B. Science or religion?
Communities and school districts ferociously debated the merits of
Intelligent Design, a concept that asserts certain aspects of the hvtng
world seemed to be caused by an intelligent source, rather than a random
process such as natural selection. Opponents claimed it was religion
masquerading as science, while proponents insisted it should be a
respected potnt of vtew.

C . Space tourist
American scientist Gregory Olsen
paid $20 million for a 10-day trip
to the International Space Station.
Olsen, the co-founder and
chairman of his own fiber-optics
company, made the trip aboard
a Russian rocket and became
only the third civiltan to become
a "space tourist. "

D. 360 around the world

Microsoft released its newest
gaming system, Xbox 360, just in time for the holidays
and prompted shoppers to camp out in lines to gobble
them up. The consoles were also launched with a new
expanded service from Microsoft that allowed garners
worldwide to play one another.

'
E. Generation MySpace
Teens conttnued becomtng more immersed in the
internet. MySpace.com, an online social community
geared toward young adults and musicians, became
one of the fastest-growing websites on the internet.
Just two years old, MySpace's membership
approached 50 million users and began getting more
hits than Google and AOL. Elsewhere, popular online
encyclopedias like Wikipedia started to be viewed as
viable reference tools, despite debates regarding its
accuracy.
D
F. Lost World
Conservation groups on an expedition rnto the remote tropical jungles
of Indonesia discovered dozens of new animal and plant species. The
scientists reportedly found up to 20 new types of frogs and a species of
tree kangaroo (pictured) that was previously thought to be extinct.

G. Park for free

Salt Lake City joined a growing list of American cit1es that began offering
free metered downtown parking for more environmentally friendly vehicles.
To qualify, cars needed to get at least 50 m1les to the gallon or be a hybrid
powered by an alternative fuel. Other c1ties that offered similar programs
included Austin , Texas and New Haven, Conn.

H. Landmark surgery
Doctors in M1ami successfully
removed a 16-pound tumor from
the face of Marl1e Casseus, a 14-
year-old Haitian girl suffering from
a rare genetic disorder. Casseus
was brought to the United States
for the procedure after aid
workers in Haiti discovered her
case. Donations from all over the
world helped Casseus'
family pay the med1cal
bills.

Everything in life has those
priceless memories that will
never be forgotten. A ma-
jority of memories happen in
high school. Sack in Slack
and ready to rock the house
Sison style students look
back on those precious, some-
times comical milestones.
Coming to high school as
scared, unsure freshmen who
suffer and eventually make it
out alive. Next step up, now
a sophomore, but still low on
the food chain. Passing Driv-
ers Ed. and getting the driv-
er's license just to blow up
your car because no one told
you there was something
called a temperature gauge.
The next in line, juniors think
they are big and bad until
the seniors remind them they
aren't seniors yet. finally
after twelve long years, as
seniors we strut in loud and
proud to be back in black
ready to make our final high
school memories that are
completely unforgettable.

Mrs. Dissmore's first hour World Foods class
and seventh hour Advanced Foods class cooked, ~woo
prepared, and served lunch on Friday, February
17th. - -
The two classes fixed taco salad for all
three lunch shifts, served with slices of cheese,
pudding, and milk. "My new dream job is to be a
school cook. It was awesome!" exclaimed Amanda
Cowden after she was asked about the cooking expe-
rience. Whitley Barber summed up the day by giving
us an inside peek. Whitley told us how she had to
place the pudding into the styrofoam containers,
and the sour cream into plastic cups. She also de-
scribed how other students had to stack and fill
milk crates.
Mrs. Dissmore said, "I think it went just as
smooth as last year." She had fun working with
such a great group of kids.

Mr. Gilmore loves seeing a team of three students to almost

beat a team that had five members. One of his unforgettable
memories of his high school teaching is having a student
telling hitn at the beginning of the year that they hate sci-
ence and then having the student come back and saying
Mr. Gilmore is the sponsor that they want to continue taking science in high school.
of Academic Bowl and the l-Ie love s "seeing the students use the knowledge that they
