Being Persuasive
How Do You Persuade Someone?
Your goal is to convince your audience that your ideas are valid. Please consider the question below, then create a list of criteria that you can use as a
checklist to reflect on your work.

What makes a presentation PERSUASIVE?


A presentation is persuasive if:
o Give examples
o Stay on topic
o Talk about the importing things
o Know about your audience
o Practive

What makes a presentation ENGAGING?


You will be meeting with various members of our community in order to try to convince them that your idea could positively impact our community.
Your group must create a presentation to help you convince your audience. FIRST, complete the activities below as a group.

Create a list of criteria that you can use as a checklist to reflect on your work. (Sometimes it helps to think about what makes a Speaker/Media
presentation NOT engaging/boring).
A SPEAKER is engaging if: A MEDIA presentation is engaging if:

o They understand their topic o They understand


o They practice o They are envolved
o They get asked questions o They injoy the topic
o They injoy their project o They ask questions
o They are happy with their o They are focused
presentation

Practice Presentation & Reflection


1. AS A GROUP, have each member use the criteria above to analyze the persuasiveness and engagement level of your final presentation. Then, as a
GROUP make adjustments.

2. Partner up with 1 or 2 members of your group. Have each partner present to the other(s). The “audience” partner should use the criteria you
created in Steps 4 & 5 (speaker) to give constructive feedback so they can make adjustments before they deliver their presentation to the
community.
