A Letter to Jim

During the summer, Jim Carter became good friends with

Alice Hayes. Jim is now back at University of Chicago, but he
and Alice write frequently. This is a letter that Alice wrote
him.

Madison,
Wisconsin

November 18,
1975

Dear Jim,

I was very glad to hear from you. I’m glad that you are doing
so well in all of your subjects.

I was late for my first class today. Let me tell you about
it. I’m always on time for class. At least I try to be. But this
morning at half past eight I was looking for my shoe. One
shoe was in my room but the other was missing. At nine
o’clock my little sister was going past my door. Guess what
was on her foot. My missing shoe! She was playing with it.
I was late for school, but the teacher wasn’t upset. She
was very nice about it. Actually, she’s always nice. I guess we
all have our troubles.

Anita wants to go to a movie tonight, but I’m not going. I

have a lot of homework.

I miss you very much, so please write again soon.

Love,

Alice.
